Been to Japan a half dozen times but watching this video really brings home how much I’m (and I’m sure many others here) missing by not being able to converse with locals like John does, other than the rudimentary 20 to 30 words we all know. A true gift John has to be treasured.

I know, I should make an episode just in him! What a nice guy, a teacher who teaches kids and now us to use kendama. So cool.

That's awesome, I was walking through that neighborhood only a few months ago. I didn't have a destination in mind, I just wanted to walk thru real Japan. Thank you, John!

The wonderful part was having conversations with the local people in the video, so I can learn some Japanese while watching 😊 Well done, keep going 👍👍

The app idea is clever, it's like Pokemon Go for History!

Even though I live in a safe country, when I want to escape the world, videos of Japan are the remedy. Especially those in which the host communicates with the locals. Friendly people, it seems so peaceful. And a special shoutout to that guy at 24:34, great show. I really enjoyed this video, it's my energy for the busy Saturday to come.

I love it when you visit small towns like this, especially when I can listen to you speak with the locals in Japanese. And seeing yakitori makes me hungry. Also the young man with the kendama was impressive.

I love watching the "banter" with the ladies with the snacks. Niigate Gyoza. 😋 They love the attention you give them to showcase their wares. 😋 As usual John...you are making me hungry for foods that I have never eaten before. Now THAT is a skill! 😂 I think they love your enthusiasm for the food.🥰 Only in Japan Yakitori grill 😂

I love the countryside! When I stream in Tokyo, people are suspicious. Out here, so friendly!! Just fun 🤩 but I did introduce myself first, I’ll try to do more of it. Gosh, miso ANYTHING makes me drool. That onigiri 🍙 was great. Lunch time!!

This entire area is on my list for next trip. Best sake in the country as well, and that seafood is amazing.

Thank you for the video. The town looks very ‘anime-ish’. Love it.
Perhaps something totally unrelated.. what i also love is the cityscapes. The streamlined design of the pavements, walkways and road. Seems pedestrian friendly to walk around

Looking forward to your breakfast stream because if it is nearly as good as your lunch it's going to be awesome
Great to see other parts of Japan

Loved the philosophical insights at the end with regard to "Adventure not suppose to be simple" and requiring "going out and making the effort" resulting in being "rewarded with something special." OK, your major at Ohio State may have been economics, but it sounds like you must have minored in philosophy.
Looking forward to the added Niigata experiences ahead as you continue to venture "away from the beaten path."
(Dale here in Alaska where the weather today appears to have mirrored the blue sky and crisp fall air there in Teradomari.)

I don't think there is. Didnt they eat on it in the obento Episode?
In Germany The ICE has a dedicated area where you can even get food. And I am pretty sure you can eat everywhere on it, probably because they are cleaning regular.

    That was inspiring.
It was great to see you have interaction with the town people and the festival people.
Would like to go to Japan but am too old to travel anymore. That is why I love the internet.
    Thanks John for the adventures.
See you on the next vlog.
