  • America's criminal codes are now so voluminous that they bewilder not only the average citizen but also the average lawyer.
Harvey Silverglate, in his new book, Three Felonies a Day, argues that the typical American professional is likely unaware that he or she violates federal law daily.
He spoke at the Cato Institute October 1, 2009.

Ever heard of Civil Asset Forfiture? If an officer pulls you over, conducts a search of your vehicle and finds... oh, idk... a briefcase with $10,000 in it.
The officer can, quite literally, take your money and charge and it (not you) committing a crime that you or your money did not commit. Yes, your property can be charged with a crime.
And the state or federal forces that sieze it dont have to return it until you go to court against them and prove that you weren't going to commit a crime with said money. The depart that seizes your property may then spend or auction off your property after certain amount of time passes (varies by state). So even if you do sue them. It could be months or years till you get your property back and chances are you won't even be able to get it back cuz it will be gone and you will simply be reimbursed with a check.

Though it is not a psychological disability for a prosecutor to deal harshly with dishonest people, that is their job, but a terrible error to harshly deal with honest people.

Actually it's been known that the majority of Federal Cases involve people who would be determined as "factually innocent" being unjustly prosecuted and forced to endure what is known as "unlawful imprisonment" (Source: USA Today). There's a reason why 28 USC 2255 exists...

never leave the criminal code up to the states, some states will do good by their citizens, and some will use the criminal code to make money off the poor. do I know what the solution is, no I don't but it has been proven that cities and states will use the poor to pad their coffers.
