- Perhaps the first "televangelist" back in the 1950's and the person who Reverend Robert Schuller said was his inspiration to go on television, Archbishop Sheen preaches three messages from the former sanctuary before the Crystal Cathedral was constructed. This video is now more pertinent than ever considering that the Roman Catholic Church now owns the property and has completed a loving multi-million dollar restoration of the Aboretum (the old sanctuary) and is in the midst of renovating the Crystal Cathedral (now Christ Cathedral) - anticipated completion in 2017.
Milton Berle once asked Bishop Sheen, “How is it that you have better ratings then me?” Sheen replied, “Its easy, I have better writers .. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John”.

@@charlesosburn5343 We can not say with any certainty that the Sermon on the Mount is the only one Jesus ever preached. It's the only one preserved in the Gospels, but we know that there are many things Jesus did that are not in the pages of Scripture.

i once kissed ring on the hand of JP2 [ the pope who never tried to stop child rape by the Priest ] and met the visionaries from Medjugorje [ who said they saw heaven ] and i read all of bishop sheen's books also i traveled to many catholic sites BUT in the end its about MONEY !!!!
A man like Bishop Sheen would be such an encouragement for someone to want to enter the seminary.

I remember watching the Bishop as a child. My mother never missed a show and this was before we became Catholics. I'm trying to find a nice color photo of Bishop Sheen for my home. In my eyes he already is and has always been a saint. God Bless Ven. Fulton Sheen!!!

I am not a Catholic, nor is my genetic family, but I remember with nostalgia when as a child our family watched the hour of power.
It helped lay a firm foundation of belief in Almighty God and his beloved son. That foundation has been greatly tested, but has held firm. Thank God for such teachers.

Grew up loving the Church and at the age of 52 still do, again by the grace of God. I make the statement out of gratitude and humility not boasting.
I remember with fondness as a little kid watching the "Hour of Power" with my mom because of Dr. Schuller powerful sermons. Lord how we need the likes of these two men of God today. Who lived up to their individual calling/vocation and preached the Good News to the world. This video is a testament of how they, Blessed Archbishop Sheen and Dr. Schuller, belonging to different Christian traditions came together under one roof and did what they did best.. They preached the Gospel of our Precious Lord Jesus Christ. Saviour of the world Redeemer of mankind. Christ is our Blessed Hope. MARA NATHA LORD. ¡VIVA CRISYO REY! CHRIST IS KING !

I love Archbishop Fulton J Sheen I pray that he will be canonize as a saint soon he will be a great saint🙏❤️
This may sound weird, but one of the things about Fulton Sheen's style that really gets through to me is that he keeps holy the actual name of Jesus, especially Jesus Christ. He often says "Our Blessed Lord", in place where many modern evangelist would say "Our Lord Jesus Christ". He reserves the use of the name Jesus Christ for very serious highlights within his talk, and it allows him to keep power in the name. Some enemies of the faith make a mockery of the overuse of name Jesus Christ, and Fulton Sheen combats that fantastically by not overusing the name. For me, it makes a huge difference in my ability to hear Fulton Sheen's homilies and take them with grave sincerity.

I dreamt one night Fulton Sheen came into my mind. I thought that Fulton Sheen should be Sainted. Several days later the Pope placed his name in line for Sainthood. There is power in this man's soul and Sainthood is definitely his destiny.

I was raised Catholic and am no longer one. However, I could listen/watch His Excellency many times. My Grandmother listened/watched him on an old black and white TV and I remember as a child sitting with her and watching him. As far as I'm concerned he is a saint. Very wise and great teacher.

Many thanks for posting this! Robert H. Schuller, the late former pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, was very friendly to the Catholic Church and deeply interested in Its teachings. It was reported that, during Pope John Paul II's American visit in 1979, Dr. Schuller was in the audience for one of the Pope's addresses; he was so moved by JP II's words that he tearfully asked. "When can we come home again?" The following year, Schuller dedicated the 9-story Crystal Cathedral as the centerpiece of a ministry that would reach across the globe. Today, that cathedral has been renamed Christ Cathedral and in 2019 will become the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Orange, California. The church Robert Schuller built has come home... I'm sure Christ Jesus Happily Welcomed Dr. Schuller home, too. Rest in eternal peace & joy, Bob Schuller +.
There is a photo taken that shows Robert Schuller with John Paul II where the Pope gives a blessing to Schuller's soon-to-be-built Crystal Cathedral. Schuller said in later years "Everyone thought I had this master plan [for the church and CC Campus] ....well I didn't...but GOD DID." God surely did...... When the Catholics acquired the campus and cathedral in 2011, Schuller had a chance encounter with Father Christopher Smith (Christ Cathedral Rector) where Schuller - then 85ish - said to Father Christopher "I built this church for Jesus Christ and I know with the Roman Catholics - it will remain for Christ FOREVER..."

kraftpr Amazing isn't it - its especially meaningful since there are 11 masses every Sunday in the very building (the Aboretum) where Bishop Sheen spoke decades earlier. I sent a copy of this in DVD form to Bishop Kevin Vann the Bishop of Orange (which is headquartered now on the former Crystal Cathedral Campus) as I thought he'd enjoy it.

I was born in 1972, same year this took place. Thank the Lord for both Bishop Sheen and Dr.Schuller. Very moving words spoken by Bishop Sheen. In 2020, we have no spiritual leaders like years ago. There may be one or two but not on a level like we've seen in history.

Watched him with my Mom in he 50's 's...he was mesmerizing. He gave you deep truth so easily, gracefully and it would quietly "hit" you and his "jokes" were instructional as well.

I remember listening to Bishop Sheen when I was a young man around the 60's. I am not a Catholic but he always impressed me as an elegant speaker. We need speakers like him in our protestant churches.
You can find him at every Mass in the Eucharist as St.Padre Pio said. In The Communion of Saints.

My hero was this man. he gave me courage. My life was so difficult when I was very young. I just hung on his words. I hope Bobby Schuller can reserrect one of these videos and show it to his congregation. I wished i had met him in person. I love all these videos. So prophetic scary so many things are happening.
I am not particularly a religious man but Fulton J. Sheen was a brilliant man and a beautiful soul with humility. He was a powerful voice for the church and a great ambassador for Christ. It is very sad and tragic that in today's modern world we don't have a Fulton J. Sheen.

Concerning the wisdom he has to offer: it would suffice only to read text on paper. However, to see and hear his passion, touches the heart.

Read the book, " The Divine Romance " by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. You will want to read it again and again, fortunately it is a thin book, not a thick one. However it is heavy with the wisdom of God.
