UCLA would most likely protest against an Archbishop Fulton Sheen, today, speaking on the three meanings of Greek Love. I loved his answer to the snarkey young man who tried to equivocate that if the Archbishop owned two suits he was somehow a hypocrite, because someone else, who was poor, did not. He said he made $37,000 per half hour on Television, and literally got many expensive gifts, equalling millions of dollars, but never kept a cent and gave to the poor in Africa and Asian countries, as well as Leprosariums. He said that after giving that money all away, he was entitled to at least another suit. Ask the young man if he gave up everything to save souls, including sensual love.

The young man is hurting definitely the absence of Gods love mirrored through the parents in his family is missing. As a result the reaction we are listening to is one of bitterness, anger, frustration and anyone who stands for the love of God becomes a punching bag .

Bishop Sheen, pray for us. I was young when you were speaking at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and I did not even know it was you, but my mother did. Ironically, I became interested in your lectures later on in life, only then my mother shared that our paths had crossed already. Coincidence? I think not. Thank you for your time here on earth. Over the years I have been intently observing that our world has drastically changed - we need more priests with fire in their souls, that can speak Truth with the humble intelligence which you had.

That's because he was validly ordained a Priest and consecrated a Bishop. I know that after 1969 they changed those Rites to resemble the Anglican Rites which were pronounced invalid by Pope Leo XIII, who had studied the Anglican Rites to see if they could rejoin the Catholic Church. He said if they wanted to enter back with the Catholic Church that all Priests and Bishops would have to be reordained and Bishops reconsecrated, because the time lapse between valid orders, changed invalid orders, and back to valid orders, was too long a time span, and rendered Anglican orders all invalid. Look in the mirror Vatican II.

My father visited during the fifties/sixties yearly the US. Back in the Netherlands he told us that he always listened overthere to Mgr. Fulton Sheen which he admired a lot and he purchased there some of his books to read back at home.

Bishop Sheen was a remarkably gifted man. I think he is one of the rare few who would have been able to bridge the divide that exists in this country today. He was a remarkable communicator and was able to connected with those who admired him as well as those who opposed him. He spoke the Truth and nothing but....
Yes, he was. I may have seen him on TV when I was a kid, but certainly I wouldn't have appreciated him. He's like "fine" wine or food. You can't really savor the experience until after you've gotten so many happy meals in drive-throughs.

I find it interesting that the 1st student stands up to "ask a question" thru a long 'symbolic' fictious story, then CLARIFIES it ... and they both banter with parables to outwit the other, in eerily similar styles, as if the kid is imitating while challenging the speaker, who's final response happened to impress the audience into a supportive round of applause.

Sadly, Bishop Sheen was terribly mocked especially in his later years. Very sad indeed that his last years were so unpleasant as compared to his earlier years on radio and television.

Archbishop Sheen was appreciated by those of us who grew up in the late 1950s and 1960s. By the early 1970s, the Catholic Church went off- course in some ways, due to Scriptural and doctrinal confusion.
But Hallelujah-- the Power of the Holy Spirit-- the Lord brought Pope John Paul II to the Papacy.
Archbishop Sheen saw St. John Paul II at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, in 1979. He received a 7- minute standing ovation, he was very frail.
Fulton Sheen, by the way, was born in 1895, and died on December 9, 1979-- he was 84. Requiescat in Pace.

I got to defend Fulton Sheen on the question about giving His coat to one Who dose not have one. Giving to the poor Is what the apostles said we should keep doing It is the will and desire of Almighty God to help Men in need. yes it is blessed what we do to the poor we do to Jesus...... the Key is the poor.... God Hates the redistribution of wealth this is theft. when a man comes to you and says give what you have to those who have less, is not speaking with the love of God but is trying to show himself greater and more pious that you. and is attacking you... if He wants that the poor people are helped why must he speak just go help the poor.
