  • In this TEDx Talk Gemma asks the question, can it be as simple as changing the message and changing the label to change a person’s future? As of 2023 over 1.5 million children in England have special educational needs and have been given a label and are now falling into a stereotype. Breaking stereotypes is a collective responsibility that requires self-reflection, education, and active efforts to challenge preconceived notions. Embracing diversity and dismantling stereotypes can lead to a more harmonious and inclusive society where individuals are valued for their unique qualities and contributions. Let us strive for a world where every person can thrive. Change the label, break the stereotype, change a life. Gemma Peebles is the founder, CEO and top rhino of Harrison College. Throughout her career in education, she has worked with young people to achieve their dreams and aspirations. She has always focused on the right person, the right course and the right place. The motto of Harrison College is ‘Your Future, Your Choice’. Gemma and her team encourage all young people to take ownership of their future and make choices that will start them on their journey.
Gemma is also working with the business community both as a patron and non-executive board member of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce to encourage employers to tap into hidden talent, those currently not in work that are neurodiverse. Gemma also sits on the SYSAB and Education Advisory Board for Skills Street. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
