IF funk is your thing. I personally can't stand it.
What sets this young lady apart is that she has, other than a naturally perfect technique, but that she plays with what only can be described as a soulful connection with the instrument. You can see this is players from Eddy Van Halen, to way back with Buddy Rich to bass players like Tony Levin. Now don't get me wrong. She may not be the fastest shredder on the fret board ..... yet, but music shouldn't be about how fast you can play notes like so many young people are driven to do, but how well can you play music that can sonically connect with the heart and soul of others. Many great years to come. Much love and thanks young lady.

This kid is already a force to be reckoned with; I've played with more than a few adults that can't groove like that. It will be interesting to see how she develops as she gets older. Very impressive; it makes me happy to see young people just tearing it up on their instrument, whatever it is.

I'm a former bassist. Her technique is flawless. The thing that blows me away is her grasp of music. That's the hard part! That kid has SOUL!! She loves it and it comes through, straight at you!

Ellen is really taking her playing to a new level. She is starting to personalize her playing technique formulating her own style. Her popping and slapping have really improved, hard to believe she's only eleven. Great work Ellen and your new bass sounds great!!!

I love your bass playing! I myself played a lot of bass guitar over the years. When I was very young I worked full time as a professional bass guitarist for a short time. When I started out female bass players were very rare, now there are so many incredibly talented female bass guitarists out there, and what you have is special. You don't just play the notes and do the clever stuff, you get right into the groove. You play with feeling, it's not how many notes you play or anything, but it's the way you play them, and how you sit with the drums and everything else. I went on to try and forge a career as a singer songwriter, then I became very sick with a flu like illness, which I never recovered from and it was discovered I had M.E. things just went very wrong after that, my record contract fell through and I was also becoming increasingly unwell. I could never work again, because I often could barely get out of bed. There is a lot of other stuff relating to the illness that have prevented me working. That was all a very long time ago. I kept on playing bass on and off and writing songs. I became a christian and got evolved with the worship team there, by this time I played fretless bass exclusively. And soon after I took the plunge and got a Warwick 5 string fretless bass, and I now could never go back to 4 strings! Have you played a 5 string bass yet? And what about fretless bass? Fretless is an instrument of it's own. I am sure you would enjoy learning to play fretless,. I think you're amazing! The only thing I say is don't grow up too fast. Just be Ellen. Be the way you always were, I felt a little sad to see you with pink hair so soon. You are a very beautiful talented girl, stay safe, don't be pressured into stuff to please others or because other people do it, you've had such a beautiful innocence, a sweetness, that is so hard to come by these days. Even in music, enjoy playing your bass guitars, but don't let it be all you do. Don't end up hating it. Don't rush into any professional settings or commitments. Stay safe and enjoy the journey 💕🎸🎶

I concur with this advice. Who you are (and become) is more important than what you do. Never put your career ahead of that. Soo many musicians start out well and end up ruined by the industry. This is more aimed at Dad at this point... protect the little girl in her.

I agree that there is something that the female bassists have an advantage over men when it comes to how naturally they can feel the rhythm and groove

I came across one of her videos just last night and instantly became mesmerized by her talent and obvious joy in what she is doing. I am now a fan.
😮I'm blown away because she's only been doing slap bass maybe a year.....Her brain and music skills are so far advanced it's truely mind blowing and a blessing to the music world.

With the addition of that ferocious mop of curls she's like a 3/4 size Tal Wilkenfeld. I heard some of that funky music when I was growin' up, and this kid'd just slot right in. EXCELLENT!

I've been playing guitar since I was 8. My Father too was my first teacher and mentor. Through my travels in the industry I have seen many bass players, but never have I seen such a young prodigy as yourself! And your only 11! Good God girl, your not only gonna make a mark in music history, but your gonna break a lot of hearts too I'm sure! lolol Don't let early romance get in your way! Keep working on your art. Focus and work more on original stuff. You already have the basics down! You go girl! You got swagger! You got talent! Keep up the hard work!

Proof anyone can accomplish anything they set their mind to. Know what I think of when I see videos like this? All the people in life who say, I can't. I can't be a professional musician, a filmmaker, an actor, whatever.

As a long time fan of Ellen and her father... (in this case that actually just a few years) i am just wowed at how quickly she has progressed. Its been a great journey to check back every so often and see the way she is advancing, not only as a musician but as a mini human. 😂 Her parents are providing great parenting from what I can see and her life seems to be kept on a level of practiical normalcy... (well as normal as her life could be with all of the endorsements and personal appearances she seems to make) I for one have no doubt she is growing up healthy and strong and independentl You can tell this is something she truly wants. Many commenters fear for her safety and mental health. Anyone of us that have followed her adventure know that is not the case... By what criteria would you judge my playing if I were to submit a video? Enthusiasm? How do you judge that from a musical recording? How would you judge how inspiring I am to others? What is this criteria? I get the feeling you had to play the recorder in elementary school and now consider yourself a musician.
