7 Biggest Clubs Who've Never Won A Top Flight Title

- From West Ham United's failure to win the Premier League or the old First Division, to Bayer Leverkusen and their repeated failure to get their hands on a Bundesliga trophy, HITC Sevens takes a look at some of the biggest and best football teams that have never won a top flight league title.
- Sport
Leverkusen's 2002 campaign was just ridiculous. They finished 2nd on every single stage they entered (Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, CL), and in addition, the German players at Leverkusen also finished 2nd at the world cup that year. Michael Ballack was in 2nd place 4 times that seaaon.
2002 levakusen squads heartbreak. Top of bundesliga heading into the final game of the season 2 points ahead of bayern. Were in the dfb pokal final and champions league final. They were going for the treble but at the end of season they had no titles. Cant imagine the heartbreak the players went through. And if that wasnt enough ballack lost the world cup final as well
Also several of their players where in the world cup final 2002 losing against brasil ....you couldn't write stuff like this
The team who snatched the league title is Dortmund, tho.
Ballack lost to Brazil and Madrid, both the best teams in thier respective competitions
Ballack didn't get the chance to play at the world cup final and he still won some league titles with BM and Chelsea.
Ramelow and Schneider are the true definition of bad luck, losed 3 finals in 2002 and even worse won nothing entire their career.
@@ajanthony1356 I mean Leverkusen were the better team in the Champions League Real's first goal was terrible you could definitely make a case the keeper should've done better on Zidane's goal and Leverkusen dominated the game but Casillas played out of his mind when he came on if Cesar didn't get injured it's likely Leverkusen would've won

This was 6 years ago. Lemme guess. Some are retired, most are still playing. There. Done.
@@stonecold6521 that's why it would be interesting you dumbass, to see which ones are retired and which ones still play.
A player with everyone thought would flop but became amazing. Could be a 7 or 11
Someone everyone thought would be amazing but turned out to be a flop
Another honourable mention for England would be Bolton Wanderers. I realise they're not exactly a big club as of the time of writing, but they've spent more seasons in the English top flight than any other side never to have won it, and they've won four FA Cups. Like West Ham, their best finish is 3rd, on three occasions.

4th time a charm:
Players who are legends in their own country, but hardly known outside.
Example: Willem van Hanegem is considered to be in the top 5 all time Dutch players (many consider him the best after Cruyff before Van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Robben etc.). But he only played in Holland, so people abroad don't really know him.
same in serbia with dragan stojkovic piksi, who is very well known in serbia, but outside nobodys ever heard of him
Hatzipanagis in Greece, Ilie Balaci in Romania, Șükür in Turkey
I know Van Hanegem is an anti-German and his son is a DJ :))
@DaGe PaPo He played for Marseille at some point (I think)
DaGe PaPo he played in the 80s and 90s in serbia and marseille, but I know he’s well known in Japan because he played there and managed a team there
Watford were Premier League Champs in 2007-08...
IN my fifa 2005 Manager Mode
I'm happy you finally did this topic as I was asking for it for a few months now ...not in every comment section...just a few. :) Thanks.
funfact: leverkusen has even earned the nickname "vizekusen" in germany because they came runners-up so many times in various competition (bundesliga, cup, CL)
or neverkusen in english
Thank you Alfie, just watched it with my son and told him that it must be Leverkusen on top. I remember being over home watching the drama unfold. Also 2002, they had three runners up in three comps and for some even four. The ones going to represent Germany at the world cup. Honestly, it's not my favourite side but that year I felt for the players.
Seven examples of great players who missed out on their countries golden generation i.e. Laszlo Kubala and Istvan Nyers for Hungary during the early to mid 1950s or Raul for Spain in the late 2000s.
Jean Pierre papin for France
Ballack's 2002 was pretty tragic, he ended up finalist/close runner up of the Bundesliga, the german cup, the Champions League and the World Cup
Day 18: ranking every bvb striker since robert lewandowski.
7 smallest club to reach UCL final. 😁
Lock Jyou liverpool
Ah yes 6 ucls small
Tottenham
Malmo from Sweden
DaGe PaPo lol last year
Bayer Leverkusen has just won the Bundesliga
Great idea for a video! 👍
Didn’t know the Hammers were title- less
As a Portsmouth fan it makes my day when reminded that Southampton have never won a top flight title.
Felt so sad for Portsmouth yesterday :c Hope you guys go up next season, you belong in the Prem, not in FL 1.
I'm sure they were so sad about that while watching your club fail, again, to break out of League 1
Evapii championship at best
As a Saints fan, it makes my day when you fail to get promoted from League One again and again and again.
Very amazing content loved it mate keep it up!
Great video👏🏻👏🏻
You do have a half-Spaniard viewer here, and yeah Villareal were only big this century, not quite before that.
But if I had put a Spanish side in this list, it would be Real Zaragoza. They do have that one continental triumph Arsenal fans wanna forget, but they have never won La Liga despite, until about 10 years ago, having a consistent presence in the 1st Division.
Hold on I have forgotten an even better case in Spain: ESPANYOL … next year it will be its 5th year in 2nd Division. 80 years of top flight and NO titles!!
Also honorable mentions : FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, and the Ankara based clubs in Turkey (a league dominated by the Istanbul based clubs).
For Spain it should be Real Zaragoza. They've been out of La Liga for years, but they've won 6 Copa del Rey's and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
Love this Alfie
Day 2: What if all players that could play for them played for Athletic Bilbao XI
Their eligibility is not a straight answer, ie last month higuain was rumored to join them but one of their officials said he was eligible
@@EugenesBackpack yes it is if you are born in basque you can play for them or if your parrents are from basque
Hamburg's Relegated 2017/18: Where Are They Now?
Not to be rude, but no one knows who they are
Chris Scott maybe not those english biased football fans but real football fans should know a former CL champion and regular competitor in european tournaments
Fun fact diekmeier who lasted in hamburg ages, scored his first professional goal during the restart
dudeeeee
@Jan FCB it always be like that. Just like that saying about waiting on the bus
Whos where after leverkusen finally cracked the bundesliga?
Top drawer quality stuff....keep it up.
Fun fact, the brazilian league is very competitive, because most of the big clubs don’t have political and economic stability, so it is very difficult to predict who’s going to be champion in almost every season, but the title hardly ever goes to any club from outside of the 13 big ones. Therefore, Fortaleza, not belonging to the 13 big clubs group, will struggle to ever reach a national championship
Leverkusen is one of my go to teams to manage in Football Manager, mainly as I like the idea of being the first manager to bring them a title :)
Day 49: XI of most own goals scored since 2010/of all time
All time Premier League 11 vs All time La Liga 11
And same could be done for other Leagues

Now thats a quality idea playboy !👍👍👌
You could make loads of videos out of this idea, doing different decades

As a Leverkusen fan for 22 of my 26 years of age, topping this list is the most Leverkusen thing ever. Of course we get first on a list ranking clubs we fail to win titles :D
Nice one. A good one would be 7 countries most likely to win FIFA world cup in future that haven't won already. Reasons such as rich history, growing popularity, large population, etc
(eg, USA, Netherlands, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria)
6:22 Giant of world football Hull City :))
You should do a video about Hull City 2008/2009 season, first season in EPL and they were in 3rd place in September and then won only 2 more matches over the remainder of the season :))
HITC Sevens please may you do do a video on 7 of the most surprising league champions in football.
Can you do a video about what would have happend if every premier league club's best player, would have played for their rival team. Like if Harry Kane would have played for Arsenal, if Aguero played for Man u ,etc.
Who's here after bayer leverkusen won their first bundesliga tittle
Bayer Leverkusen in 2001/02 were on track to win the treble and in a matter of 2 weeks they had nothing to show
Lost a 5 point lead to Dortmund
Lost DFB cup final to Shalke
Lost champions league final vs Real Madrid
The following April were in a relegation fight Arminia Beifield
Marcos Senna had completely left my mind, he was quite good I'm pretty sure he even play with national Spanish team, I believe.
Hi Alfie could you make a video on England’s run to the 2018 World Cup Semifinals as it’s been two years ago today that we beat Sweden 2-0 in the Quarterfinals. I keep on hearing people when it’s discussed that England were lucky and got an easy route and yet they still bottled it. Despite this being the same country that lost and was embarrassed to a country with the same population as Coventry in Euro 2016. It would be great to see if you have read this comment and make a video trying to debunk all the points that haters have been saying as this is a great time to be optimistic about the future tournaments. Where there is lots of great young talented English players breaking through into the first teams of their respective clubs and playing minutes of top flight football.
Suggestion : Best XI with/without body tattoos.
Video idea: Greatest year for every national team.
For example England 1966(im not sure if that is their best year) or uruguay 1930
You should do an East Germany XI if East Germany existed today or do the last season of the DDR oberliga teams where are they now. East German football is really interesting and in comparison with Soviet or Czech cold war football its ignored so it would be really great to see either of those videos or any East Germany related ideas you may have.
Seven national teams who have overachieved the most historically e.g. Uruguay, Portugal, Netherlands, Croatia etc.
I would say the Netherlands underachieved
Greece or zambia
@@krooscontrol9019 Yep.
Scotland
Denmark and Sweden and maybe even Norway
HITC Sports/HITC Sevens can you do a video of every last time a premier league team has won a premier league title.
It's always nice to see a foreign channel mentioning brazilian clubs and domestic football. Congrats for your work!
Just two small things: 1 - in 1968, Fortaleza actually lost the Taça Brasil final to Botafogo, not Bahia.
2 - This one is more of a personal opinion than a "fact", but I think that the biggest club in Brazil to never won the national championship/"league" is Vitória, from the Bahia state.
1. Major finals where the underdogs shocked the world.
2. 7 most profitable clubs via transfers since 2010.
3. 2010 world Cup stars where are they now? Eg Gyan, Tshabalala.
4. 7 best players who were released by an academy but still went pro
Best XI for every continent!
as a Leverkusen fan, it hurts so much, especially after just losing the DFB Pokal finale...
The Braga stadium is amazing
Suggestion: 2nd and 3rd division teams that have a big fanbase despite rarely making it to the top flight.
U should do the last 7 teams to win the old first division
Lol this is exactly the inspiration i needed for a new Football Manager save
Best homegrown XI in premier league. (This means players that played for more than 3 years in England before the age of 21.)
Can you discuss the topic of the UEFA coefficent ranking and its history as a documentary
I knew Neverkusen would be in here, but didn't expect them to be #1
Can you do small clubs who won big trophy
And Bayer Leverkusen reached the Champions League final in 2002, losing to Real Madrid and THAT wonder volley by Zinedine Zidane.
They also finished 2nd in the league and German cup talk about unlucky.
Video Suggestion : Seven players who have had a resurgence this season ( e.g. Jerome Boateng )
Do a video showing the worst team to have won a title next pls
This is the best list to choose a club to start FM save
Oh wow my hometown club actually got mentioned! Braga!
That Parma team was LOADED for years. I remember it well growing up.
Do the most underrated football teams
This is making me want to make these title wins happen in Footie Manager lol
Video idea: closest title races
3:26, It’s pronounced like “Tah-sah”, not “Tah-cuh”
I would say that historically Fortaleza is a lesser club, traditional but much smaller than so many clubs in Brazil. They are nondivisional just a few years ago. They are traditional, but they were very insignificant in national terms. Goias, Ponte Preta, Santa Cruz, Nautico, Portuguesa, Vitoria Ba, Bangu, America, America Mg, Vila Nova Go.
However, if they keep like that they will eventually get something for their merits, they are very organized right now.
Hello what of a vidoe of small clubs that have never won a trophy at all such as CD Guadalajara in Spain
Make a video on last time liverpool team
won a domestic league . where are they now .
7 players that could have played for bigger countries but did not. Like Aubameyang and Koulibaly. Could be an XI.
In Brazil there is a lot of them: Ponte Preta, Portuguesa, Vitória, Goiás.
Best and most entertaining matches that finished 0-0
Alfie: says that 5 teams have won the portougise league
Also alfie in 2:52: "That means that any club outside of those 4"🤣
Whoops! Sorry about that.
So.. by all logic, Leverkusen should have been in second spot for this video 😅
for Brazil I'd choose Goiás (best overall performance in the 1st division for clubs that never won it) or São Caetano (twice Série A 2nd place and Libertadores 2002 runner-up)
"I'm limiting myself to one club per nation".
Shit - I was looking forward to watching this, too . . . oh well.
Greatest XI of players of African descent who could have played for African national teams including retired players e.g. Eusebio, Zinedine Zidane, Mario Coluna, Marcel Desailly, Patrick Vieira etc.
came for Neverkusen
was not disappointed
The 7 best Players in every position this season
Day 3, Surinamese XI if all eligible players declared for them
7 biggest rivalries in club football between 2 clubs from different countries
The most appropriate club from australia for this list would definitely be the Western Sydney Wanderers, even though they’ve only been around for less than a decade, they’ve done enough to win the AFC Champions League yet have never won the A-League
6:36 and let's hope it stays that way.
As a Leverkusen I already knew we were going to be number 1 before clicking the video
0:10
And Olympiakos is currently at court for match fixing and out of their last 5 presidents only 2 are out of jail(the last one is prohibited to have any association with football)
Day 11: every scorer of the 2010 World Cup, what happened next?
Tshibalala...
We’d have 70 players or so 😯
For Italy, you may want to look up Palermo. They're a pretty big club that has never won a top flight title.
