    I’ve had three 650i’s ....2012, 2013, 2015. They are classically beautiful as well. This 850i is the revision of them, not a new model. Rebadged as 8 series because the 650 coupe and convertible were priced above the 7 series so now it makes sense. I would/will move to the 850 over the S Coupe, LS500 or Aston.

    If i would buy a car purely for driving experience for every day use Bmw M850i is clear choice by a country mile.
    Had a chance to drive one for few days and it’s simply amazing.
    I was first to argue can’t be any good before I had a chance to drive it.

My grandson occasionally ask if I will ever get a Merc and I always tell him, “Yes, that’s what you’ll see me in whom I die; they have great luxurious interiors!” Until then I driving the ultimate driving car.

    I would buy the M850i over the Merc. The S550 coupe is a bit more of a boulevard cruiser, something you’d cruise around Palm Beach or the French Riviera with and go a max of maybe 65 on the highway. I’m from Boston

  • @aaaaachew
    @aaaaachew Před 5 lety +5

    I would buy the Aston. At the end of the day, the people who purchase these cars (people like my dad) would rarely, if ever take them to a track, much less drive them at 7/10s of their capability. So the notion of reviewing it in those terms is pointless. The target market for these cars are primarily for those who are into the brand for the name and what it shows about them. I have met several 850 owners and most of them echo the same thoughts. It’s got 2 turbos and it has over 500hp. I can do 190. Invariably when you ask, have you ever take it to a track to driven it aggressively, the answer is always no. That said, I really enjoy your reviews.

    • @joonchoi1191
      @joonchoi1191 Před 2 měsíci

      @@jldp24 lc500 is way more stable at speed. handles better in my opinion. has less dead play in wheel, feels better to drive aggressively probably since it's rwd and lastly it just looks amazing and sounds even more so. M850 is more of a daily/cruiser, it has more amenities, 4 wheel drive, a lot more torque. solid car and highly recommended as a daily. the pros of the m850 is that it is more mod friendly and has a lot more aftermarket support compared to the lc - since the lc's ecu comes locked from factory and no one has yet to fully unlock it to add a turbo or supercharger into it. you can definitly do it with aftermarket ecu's but then you lose the option to register/smog it. Ultimately, I love two door coupes and these 2 will hold value over time as far as I can see so usually I recommend both. Side Bar - i've had the lc more at the dealer than the m850 lol

    Man, I can't believe its been 17 years since the E65 came out ... Damn.
    I wasn't particularly fond of the new 8 when it first came out, but it has grown on me since then & I came around. I prefer the Cabrio though, the Coupe's fast roof is too Mustangy for me.
    I'll pick the 8er over the S & LC ... Preferably in the Cabrio form. I'll have an individual 850 Cabrio in Mineral White over caramel Merino leather. Hold the shadowline thank you very much!
    Quick question M, what do you think of the Barcelona Blue metallic paint? It looks magnificent in some shots & like a bubble gum in others, I have to see it in person.
    Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to to the Alpina 8 more than the M8?
    As always, excellent work, M.
    Edit: I'd say the DB11 is a bit higher in the food chain, somewhere between the 8/S/LC & the Continental GT ... For that kind of money, I'd rather my dram Ferrari FF.

    BMW missed the mark on the GT segment by excluding the 840d from the US. I bought my A7 TDI because I got sick of stopping at the gas station every 3-4 days with my 750i as part of my commute. There are no longer any efficient Grand Tourers on the market that are sexy, great handling cars. ...which is entirely the point of a GT.

    The price point of the DB11 is much higher that the Bimmer. Anyway, if one were had to choose from your list, I’d have to pick the Aston. I disagree about the looks of the BMW, it’s an improvement, but not even close to the Aston or even the S-Class Coupe. And what about the Audi RS5? It would probably track a lot faster than the BMW. I’m not a fan the Lexus’s looks at all, I wouldn’t even consider it. And anyway, there’s nothing like the latest Bentley Continental, which is not the same segment as any of the options presented, but it does it all. The really interesting head to head comparison will be the M8 and the S63.

    I haven't driven any of these but calling the 8 the best looking BMW means nothing considering the LC is still the best looking vehicle PERIOD for less than or right at 100k.
    Also, I'm sure the fake exhaust in the 8 sounds good but that too is nothing compared to the raw sounding 5.0v8 in the LC. The LC may not be as fast as this but who cares? If speed is all you care about then buy a mustang that the 8 resembles and save you some money.

    Funny when lexus are over weight that's all they talk about not BMW off course.

  • @edfatheroftwomendavid4399

    Methinks the previous 6 series Gran Coupe was better looking than the new 8 series.

    this 850i should only be leased..too many plastic parts in bmw engines

      Kenneth Gitonga where did you see the plastic parts? The engine cover?

      @BB-zv8tx Před 5 lety +1

      Plastic parts in the engine.interesting argument.completely invalid of course, but interesting. But I agree that new BMW/Mercs and VAGs must be leased, simply because of the conditions they give you as a customer as opposed to buying (at least in Europe that is)

    I feel like BMW brought this car back because of the Lexus LC500 ❗️
    Very Similar to the Lexus in proportion’s and its mission

    • @stubones
      @stubones Před 5 lety +1

      That is so stupid. It's just an evolution of the 6 series coupe. BMW has just renamed their cars so 6 is a "GT" and the 8 is a flagship. That stupid Lexus is irrelevant.

    • @Toyota4Life
      @Toyota4Life Před 5 lety +3

      stubones that “stupid Lexus” won design of the year, Beat a Aston Martin and Bently coupe in a comparison test. So keep your stupid comments in your head. That Lexus also looks cooler inside and out then this BMW and is a better value. The lexus motor also make a better engine sound too. This Lexus was longer and wider then the 6 series. Like I said BMW brought this model back because of the LC500. Only thing stupid here is your comment. The 6 series was fine all these years and suddenly there needed to be a 8 series ? Use common sense. This was not a Evolution of the six series this is a different car. Hence it being call the 8 and not 6

      That Lexus LC500 is stunning. This BMW is great looking, but doesn't touch the Lexus.

    He's deluded,, the original F30 model changed everything with it's V-trapezium flush grille. Everyone knows that after the stock-spike.
    Anyway; I like BMW but the Mercedes S500 coupes are miles more better than this ugly thing!!

    This thing is suspiciously familiar. Oh I know, Mustang! It's shaped exactly like A Mustang. Ha Ha. The Germans copying an American design. Nothing new. The Italians stole magnetic ride from GM. Wow!
