    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  Před 4 lety +1

      @@jaycee5109 at a bare minimum I would put Chromoly Axle Shafts, C-Clip Eliminators, and an Aftermarket POSI carrier in your 10 bolt rear. That would be the "easiest" route.
      If you were a customer of mine, I'd recommend a completely new rear with a Ford 9 Inch axle. Someone like Moser Engineering can make you a custom housing that would bolt right into your truck. I just checked and they have that as an option. It would require custom making some brackets to make the QA1 kit work though. Most of the kit would bolt right on, but the torsion arm bolts to the diff cover, so that would require making custom brackets. Thankfully a Ford 9" is an easily weldable steel housing, so it would be pretty straight forward to make that happen.

    I can't find the hub that Choppin' Block is using. You said it was a GMT800, but I thought those were all 6 or 8 stud. Their website is not showing any products for me either. "Old Body Style". It's just the nickname that series of trucks earned when the GMT800 99-07 trucks came out. Those were nicknamed the "NBS" (New Body Style). Funny enough the 08+ trucks have become the "NNBS" / GMT900 (New New Body Style). Such a creative name. Ha

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  Před 3 lety +1

      You mean the spindle sticks out through the center of your rims? Looking up that wheel, that is what I'm guessing you are saying. If that is your problem the only answer is those replacement spindles I mentioned that use the newer hub bearing design. You have to eliminate the actual bearing spindle sticking off the assembly and that is the only way I know to do so.

  • @jbalogh01
    @jbalogh01 Před 4 lety

    I wonder if those alum billet spindles would handle the weight of my big block SS. Mine came with much more heavy duty suspension than a truck with a 350.

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  Před 4 lety

      I've worked on a lot of these trucks and I don't think you are correct. The 454SS MAY have come with stiffer front springs, but other than that the suspension was entirely the same as a normal 1/2 ton pickup truck. A 454 only weighs about 100-150lbs more than an iron head Small Block.

    • @jbalogh01
      @jbalogh01 Před 4 lety +1

      @@HotRodHippie the issue was years ago i had to replace my front rotors and the parts store kept handing me rotors that wouldnt fit on my spindles. I went back to the store twice. Kept giving me the same spindles and telling me they are for my truck. Finally i pull out my dial calipers and measure the races on my old rotors against the replacement rotors the parts store kept giving me. The new rotors they were giving me had smaller diameter races. For a smaller spindle. So i told the parts manager and he told me it was the only rotors they had. I had to go to a chevy parts dealer to get the right ones. And i asked the parts guy at the dealer to let me see a comparison between the rotor for my truck and a base 350 truck. Mine was substantially thicker and heavier than the base rotors. That was a headache of a day because i believed the same thing you just said.

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  Před 4 lety

      Might have been the 6 lug 3/4 ton rotors. Those trucks used the 14 Bolt SF rear same as the light duty 2500 pickups did. Probaboy a crossover for front spindles and rotors as well. My mistake.
      Still I'd easily bet on a well designed billet component handling the added weight. Billet aluminum, when designed properly, is tougher than you'd think.
