Wow dude, you tought me more about VM's in 22 minutes than my teacher in a year.
Keep 'Em coming
I've been using Proxmox for a few years. It's been absolutely amazing.
Awesome run down Wendell, cheers. Love to see more of this stuff in the future.
I love these more in depth and higher level reviews and tutorials from Wendell and Logan! Keep them coming!! Remember even Enterprise guys like a quick refresher or lighter take on this stuff! Moar stuff like this moar views!
More like this please. As someone who is just entering IT its great to watch these type of video and learn some stuff.
Just finished upgrading my home Prox server when I saw this. Seriously the flexibility you get out of using proxmox is great.
Please continue this series, i love it. And i hope others will find if informative, and perhaps get into VM's and how it works and why it is so awesome. Keep it coming man, you do a great job of explaining how things work. Granted that a little bit of technical knowledge is required to understand it all, but if you want to understand this and perhaps become a sys admin you will gather the rest of the knowledge yourself.
Thank you Wendell and keep up the great work ( and also the rest of the Tek Syndicate Crew )
Yes, please make more videos like this Wendell. I love the other videos but more tutorials for technical stuff like this would be awesome.
Proxmox VE is an AWESOME product. I’m a long time VMWare VSphere professional and over the last few years I have been using proxmox since version 3.2 I think and it’s now my virtualisation solution of choice. I’ve deployed it in clusters of 16 nodes in our datacenters and in smaller HA set ups on customer sites, it’s fantastic!
This was very good! Simple yet informative.
Was toying around with Proxmox at work with a bunch of HP Z400s, Super easy todo the default setup, super easy to setup nodes.
Keep it coming Wendell, love it!
Thanks! Tutorial videos like this is the best. Better than the normal doom and gloom videos.
Interesting video. Some things were a little over my head and I'll have to research a bit, but all in all good video. Keep up the good work.
Great video! I've been using proxmox myself on my server for over 2 years and it's working great!
researching about proxmox, thanks for the idea man!
thank you for this video.
just clears some of the info i was sifting thru
Very cool! Would love to see more videos on virtualization, currently learning this in my server class at school.
thanks! i had been wanting to do this and now i have a step by step (by ppl i like and trust)! not like i needed it but its nice!
Great work, very informative, well presented
I demand more Wendel videos dropping the knowledge on us
would love to see more of these types of videos in the future
yes, yes,YES !!!!!! Need more of this type vids>!!! TY Wendell
This is a wicked video, great job keep up the good work
Also please do more videos like this. Wendell is incredibly knowledgeable !!
That was so awesome! Thank you very much and please do more :-D
Wendell, this was great and really helpful. It would be cool to see more stuff like this, and maybe some networking videos. With all the tech videos you guys post I feel like I don't know much about other stuff like networking and servers, etc. Great job!
great introduction to Proxmox. would love some full virtualization as well
Nice video guys!! we want more !! :P
Awesome. More Please
Great video broski
Wow, this is inspiring. Thanks. I am motivated to put ProxMox on one of my newer machines and buy one of those cheap hot-swap decks and plug in a few RAID HDDs and create my own video NAS. I don't think it would go as easy for me as for Wendall though.
Loving the Wendell-cam
I have no ideal what I just watched, but I like it!
great video sir.
Great video. Proxmox looks really cool and I think it may end up on my next server build. I have a few questions about it but I'll leave those to the Tek Syndicate forums.
very informative video, loved it
Great video. thanks
When we gonna see some more build videos? I do so adore them.
Cool video, can't wait for the XenServer one.
This might come in handy for me, thanks!
Awesome!
Great video, keep it up.
Wendell thank you for this! You shall put more content out, the Gods place praise upon thee.
I love this videos, I wish I understood more than 50% of it
I didn't think i'd ever hear Wendell say "oops" legitimately hahaha
Thumbs up to the editor of this vid.
i def would like to see more on this very interesting subject!!
Awesome! I'm actually converting my current 8350fx with 32GB of RAM to a Proxmox server
I like the new first person style :D
By the way, when you were confused why it said 50GB, You said 40GB but typed 50GB when you made the VM.
Nice video. :) Would love to see one with XEN and KVM as well!
Awesome.
MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS PLS
open source .. great stuff
This was way over my head.
Very nice.
Please do cover more in virtualization.
holy smokes at the motionsicknesscamera Batman!
More videos for virtualization would be nice.
It would be nice if you can do an updated version of this Proxmox video for a gaming VM setup.
I think you should do more Linux videos.
Awesome video, Wendell. Could you do an intro video for HTPC setups? I'm working with a Raspi and XBMC with an HDHomeRun, but it was such a pain in the neck to set up right.
Yes! I have a Win7-based HTPC with MediaPortal on it. One of those software that run fine after days of fiddling and cursing, and is practically impossible to ever upgrade. I haven't used it for a year or so, and this "hanging from a silk thread" feeling I get from my setup is one of the reasons for not wanting to touch it.
I'd like something more me-friendly :)
Something that just works, if there's such a thing.
I had problems with using a flashdrive and proxmox once. If you get more-or-less random boot fails, try a CD/DVD + Drive.
Hi Wendell great video.
ZOL is almost production ready, Proxmox + ZFS soon, finger's crossed!
I thought virtually (he,he) all virtualization software was based on XEN which is why they're free. The big bucks are charged for the management software/consoles for live migration back-ups etc.
More video's like these please.
Jon.
Ps I'm on Arch Linux, don't hate me.
Edit Proxmox VE 3.3
Uses HTLM instead of Java,
Firewalls for each VE.
2 Factor authentication for log ins.
AND Fanfare please ZFS Plugin!!
love that POV
Guys, this is one of your best videos that i've seen so far. (And i've seen a lot) Please, do more stuff like this. Also, Wendell is an awesome teacher!. Debian rules! :D
I hear you can move virtual machines between physical computers of different hardware and scale fast, with proxmox VE
You actually typed 50 into the field, you said 40, but typed 50.
That's why it reported the size at 50.
18:44 actually you typo'ed 50, I noticed lol
great video wendell are there any build videos coming soon?
Wendel more "enterprice" tutorial/videos please for linux and virtualisation.
Do a video on OpenStack!!
yeeeeaaa !!!! just got my pfsense setup on proxmox....now i need to work on zfs, plex and transmission :)
+Evi4666 you will probably face two issues as i did and here are some tips that may save you some time:
1-when you create your vmbr1 for the WAN connection. reboot the host immediately so the changes apply (its written in a very tiny font at the bottom, they should change that to big red font for people to see)
2-the VM won't boot up, it will quit right after you power it on, this is related to the hard drive configuration, if you go to the VMs hard drive property and change the default (no cache) to any of the other cache options, it will boot. (you can also add another storage Directory and you will not have to change anything if you place the vm on the new storage) i have no clue why !!.
+Evi4666 mine is a home server: i7 920, 18GB RAM, SSD for OS and Two WD RED for ZFS mirror, GA-EX58-EXTREME mobo and two Realtek NICs.
ESXI is a great solution but my hardware is lacking VT-D so I won't be able to attach the physical hard drives to the freeNAS VM for the ZFS mirror and I can't use it as HTPC since no Desktop environment can be installed to ESXI so proxmox is perfect for me right now.
for your issue: try to install the minimal netinstall Debian goo.gl/NNfazr and then install proxmox goo.gl/YeKD9w this is what i did to avoid the 17GB stupid SWAP partition that proxmox creates...if you could boot your server to Debian you can install proxmox from its repos.
This is so cool. I want to see how to setup uncloud.
Like you said in the video, it's nice to play around in. As soon as you're trying to set this up in a serious business, you will get laughed at. VMWare pretty much is king over in the real IT world, because it's a lot more stable than these kinds of "home virtualisation" and takes a lot less overhead as well, if you set everything up correctly.
That said, KVM and OpenVZ are being used by VPS providers, but that's not comparable to this OS. Their systems are pretty customised so maximise performance on hardware and such.
Please make more videos.
That power strip...
You guys should totally redo this and use the fancy new options in proxmox. Configure HA! Run ZFS! Make a ceph cluster!
Your sounds after fallen USB Flash is Cute..
I use Proxmox on a Poweredge SC box, pretty gud.
Well this was almost useful, the KVM network setup was what i was trying to get more info on, unfortunately I can't get KVMs to work on Bridged just NAT... can you make a video on networking Proxmox VMs? That would be really super useful. Nice vid
I've also had good luck with Citrix XenServer. Only complaints are that it doesn't support as many operating systems as ESXi, and that XenServer doesn't offer a web interface. You have to use XenCenter (which is windows only). Otherwise you need to use openxenmanager or ssh to do everything (I generally just use SSH).
Awesome video Wendell. But in the future can you please reduce the camera shake in AE thanks
and 1080p is LIVE!
Hey man, i'm planning to install this on my home server to run a mediaserver (Plex, Sonarr and Radarr) and act as a backup server to write automatically files to my NAS. Is Proxmox good for this use or do you recommend other software?
If you wait a while, the Openvz container download section will fill up with about a hundred items. Just make sure your Proxmox server has access to the internet.
This is cool! A more in depth tutorial would be nice so I could figure Proxmox out better.
Just learned something new my perc 6/I only supports up to 2tb disks, need a H700 with firmware updates 👍👍 thanks
6:38 Wendell shows no love for for people who use the Arch distro of GNU/Linox XD
I really enjoy your commentary, Wendell, great video!
Do you have an AIO cooler on your CPU and a separate AIO attached to your GPU? I've been trying to figure out if I want to do some light liquid cooling (CPU and single GPU, likely something like the Poseidon) but it looks like there's a steep cost curve after the AIO solutions. the H220-X is expandable and I was considering expanding that with some extra tubes and connectors to the GPU, but I find its side window to be really ugly, not sure what it's like to fill since it's horizontal, and not sure if I'd need to add an extra radiator to the loop.
More videos like this :D
what happens when you have a back up on "local" and you press on "restore" does it overwrite the current running container? or does it create a new container based off of the backup?
Great video. Could you do a xenserver one as well with xendesktop plz
ME GUSTA!
Thank you for this video :) it helped a lot
I'm absolutely new to this topic. First time trying this, how do I handle the physical drives within proxmox? I mean if i need to add or remove a HD and vms are already installed. Any assistance will be much appreciated.
+Tek Syndicate Please watch a new Updated video about this.
I like this video style tbh, maybe use of an external mic for the GoPro footage would be good for next time.
when you said all the things i kinda hoped that it would cover how to virtualize the gaming consoles as well
PuTTY on Linux will do SSH as well. Just FYI.
