  • Our first international passage was a doozy!
We sailed Australia to New Caledonia, just as rioting and civil unrest erupted ahead of us. The biggest geo-magnetic storm in 20 years threatened to take out all of our comms, including the GPS system.
And then of course the wind picked up, the sea state became boisterous, and let the boat breakages begin!
Jump aboard the good ship Cadence with us, and buckle up for a wild ride across the Coral Sea from Gold Coast in Australia, to New Caledonia, and Vanuatu.

@@equalenergy nice to meet you too.
Hope you get down to Tanna one day. Mt Yasur has been smoking heavily since we arrived. We are going to post our Tanna video soon, so keep an eye out, and at least you can enjoy it on a big screen.

Forgive me, but chuckling and joking about accidently sailing into a war zone reveals an astonishing lack of awareness of your intended cruising environment. You don't deserve sympathy if you discount threats to a safe passage from any source.

Sorry, but we are sailors, not clairvoyants. There was no problem beyond some flag waving when we departed Australia. However in 6 days a lot can happen, and so it did.
Luckily the advent of Starlink enabled us to monitor the situation and make a conscious decision to go inside the reef to make necessary repairs. The situation in New Cal is regrettable, but as foreigners not our argument. We were far more concerned about preparing our boat for the next passage. The sea is a formidable force, not to be underestimated.
