- Skoda is not a name you might think of when you're in the market for a luxury car but then you probably haven't been in the new Superb. Bob is going to show you around some of the top features of this luxury car.

I am the owner of this car now, and I am happy to say the car is still going strong and has never missed a beat with me. One feature Bob forgot to show was the parking assist which is pretty good for parallel parking with the tech of its time. The 4 wheel drive system is great. I opted to buy a Haldex Controller which allows me to set a constant 50/50 to front and back or 100% to the front. A great piece of kit. They really are a superb car. Mileage is at 190k km in 2024.
My dad had a Skoda, I liked it. It's of historical interest, nostalgia. Skoda Superb is way beyond my means, but I like Skoda. So I just enlighten people that they have done some pretty damn good cars over the last 100 years or so. Even if Soviet pressures made them a bit backward in the 1970s and 1980s. They weren't the worst, they tried their best. And now they're on the top again, and nobody likes it.
@Smokerspack Thank you for your reply! One of the thing i love about The Next Gear/ Smokerspack is that you guys actually talk to your viewers and help them! Keep up the good work!
Great video review Bob. Nice and to the point. In the process of reviewing the Superb Estate Outdoor Plus 4x4 myself. The issue I have with this version is that the 18" wheels and low-profile tyres give a harsher ride and push more noise into the cockpit. I'd be tempted to plumb for the 16 or 17-inch wheels to combat some of this, even if they don't look as cool.
so lovely. I am looking forward to buy one.
Yipee. Another car vid from Bob. He is simply uproarious!
Just got mine changed up from a vw golf mk4 due to family needs it the sort of car that covers all the bases, stylish, practical, and drives well, very happy with it,actually looks a lot more expensive than it is
It's amazing what Škoda did with their cars. So many great things about it, so roomy, such a nice engines and gearbox for such a great prices. It really is best buy in the class. Octavia not so much, since it's just cheaper then other similar rivals, but Superb is just amazing car.
I'm off next week to test the new one that's coming, should be fun.

Nice review Bob. I'm waiting for a new Skoda Superb liftback review. I think this (gen.III) car is a Passat B8 sedan killer :)
Hey Bob, looking forward to this, when will the vid hit CZcams???
Great work by the way!
How does it compare to the C-Class?thanks!love all of your reviews(:
There was a comparision with E-class which was slightly better (very close) so i would say its pretty close to let's say the same but the price is about from half to 2/3. But the Superb has turning circle of about 6 metres and the Merc about 11 metres which quite shocked me.
Hi, really like your reviews. I don't suppose you'll be doing a review on the new 3/5 series BMW?
Or could you give any feedback? Looking at importing either a 3 or 5 series into Ireland from the UK. Cheers
11 years later, now I can afford one.
Hello. Nice video! I really like all your reviews and subscribed long time ago. One of your reviews helped me to decide and i actually bought Kia Sportage! Its great i absolutely love it! However now i need luxury 7-seater SUV. Right now i got my eyes on Land Rover Discovery 4 but im not sure. Discovery is great allmost in every way but maybe where is better car? Price should be about same as Land Rovers or lower. Also no Land Cruiser. Could you please tell me your opinion? What would you buy?
I'd always plump for DSG if the money is there, it costs a bit more to run but when you are stuck in traffic it makes like so much easier.
very nice car and good review!
Wow, I didn't know they did a 4x4 version!!
It's quiet, the mic picks up everything when I'm driving. It's a very quiet car when cruising
All that sounds cool but what would it do to the fuel economy?
You won't have any problem with horse power but it can feel a bit sluggish when loaded up. 4 wheel drive is great in all situations unless you want to powerslide which I assume you don't want to. It's a similar system to the Audi quattro so you'll have no trouble with grip at all times
@yoelsd Whoops, this and other videos were made over 48 hours so I'm wearing the same jacket! I shall have to have some stern words with the continuity personnel :D
Does that car have paddle shifters, it looks like it does?
@TeddyTedson013187 By the way, yes I will be reviewing both the 3 and 5 series before summer
The Superb beats the Mondeo on quality and equipment levels, it's more affordable too. I think the Mondeo rides a little better though, more of a driver feel. The thing is the Superb has the 4wd which makes it better in the corners but there's a premium to pay for that.
Given the choice, I'd have a Superb anyday
Its a claimed improvement over the standard set up, there's little compromise. The chip may make the ecu bias towards premium fuels to achieve this improvement though.
Did you test the new 2014 yet? anything special to report about it?
Good review. Thanks.
@Smokerspack Cheers for that. My budget is pretty limited so I'd be buying a pretty standard 5 series. Although, I was thinking of going for a 2010/11 5 series with a good spec. Cheers again
Please tell me how loud is the road noise???
@TheOne42 If by performance you mean outright fun behind the wheel then the petrol is the winner there because of the noise and the long rev range. BUT the 2ltr diesel is going to be kinder to the pocket and will be just as much fun to drive.
This is important consumer information, MP Trees should be seen more in the wild!
Great videos bob! Which best suites a skoda superb esate 170bhp 4x4. A DSG or a manual?
Manual
great review as usual ! :)
But !, major stile points lost for the same jacket 3 vid's in a row ! :P
@LelouchVelvet Strangely there isn't all that much choice in the market for your needs. The Land Rover Disco is a fine car and has the best shaped boot with all 7 seats in place but, for driving I prefer the Audi Q7 which also has a decent boot with all seats up, also the Q7 is closer to the Range Rover Vogue in equipment.
As something completely different try the Dodge Durango, it's huge, good to drive and can be powered by a V8 Hemi engine. What more can you ask!
Which engine has better performance, the 2 litre TSI or 2 litre diesel?
and which's more economical?
nice review by the way, very informative.
In East Africa 2.0 TSI.
You remind me of that guy from Saturday night live.
@richard4791 The price difference you mention is amazing 12k!
Sometime ago, I used to think Audi where my favorite manufacturer. Today I have no doubt Skoda is my dream brand. Every car suits its class needs so well! I probably would never buy a executive saloon, or state, other than this car. Cheaper and very well made. What more can I ask for?
If it was my money, i'd buy the 140ps version, and get it super chipped. With Vw group engines, you can get 30+ bhp gain, and 50+ lbft torque boost. Its not worth the extra opting for the 170ps version when you can get a chip for £450 on the 140ps with the same results.
@madant1977 It is a great car, it's far bigger than a Passat. The estate version is closer to a van in space. You'll have no problem fitting in the front or back at your height, actually you'll fit in the boot, with the seats folded down, you'll be lying down flat...saloon lol
what height are you Bob , just curious so i can judge the room in cars you review as im 6ft 6 not many cars have enough head room to be comfortable. but that looks massive
Hi, dont know if you already got your answer, but I am 6'4 and I can fit in the superb no problem as a driver, the seat is adjustable as much as you can imagine. In the back, it is as big as any limousine. Skodas are really spacious all around.
thanks for the response Michal , good to hear . i have since taken a test drive and i was very impressed by how spacious it was
'Simply clever'. Skodas go for size and practicality, with superb also being very comfortable. Also, as a part of the Volkswagen group, they get great economical engines and build quality. Overall, many say that Superb is the best value for money car.
This is diesel or petrol..??
i have the s model and even the spec in that does me it has the 1.6 tdi cr
well its raining and still u didnt talked abt superbs umbrella i dont understand why u didnt ....
@TeddyTedson013187 If i was buying either it would be the 5 Series but each to his own taste. The 3 Series is sporty and a decent size, the 5 Series is a big cruiser and a brilliant mile muncher.
Importing is a tough route these days because there are some great deals here, most of the specs aren't that different either. Weigh up the pros and cons before you import.
If I was to choose one, the 520d, auto box, full leather, nice alloys. Enjoy
Thanks
Yes, most DSG cars come with flappy paddle box
@LelouchVelvet all part of the service kind Sir!
Imoved from a mondeo to a new superb recently and guess my driving style has changed to now being a slower driver, must be the car eh ....
I have been 2009 Audi A4 2.0TDI - led lights (newprice 41000€) and second car is 2009 Superb 1.9TDI Greenline (29000€). Audi is very beautiful car. But i like more drive with Superb. This year in February i sold Audi. How about Superb? No, i don't sell it. I want to drive with this car when i get new Superb model.
And more spacious. Skoda Superb is their top of the line model, and it's cheaper than any other car in the group. And no, it's not really just a VW with a different body. First of all, it's Skoda, and that means quality and comfort. It's not a Type 1 Beetle.
damn, I knew I missed something!
Isn't this car a rebadged vw?
so which is better a skoda superb or a vw passat.2011 onwards.
it will depend on your personal perspective on which looks better to you
SERDAROTmkd its ok I have sat in both and the Passat is tiny inside compared to the superb, thats the Passat out,im not into looks on cars only reliability.
***** i personaly look for the interior, i want the place where I sit to be great, the exterior more or less irrelevant to me (not to be dead ugly of course)...personally i never liked the Passat and the new Skoda models i immediately fell in love with them...underneath though it is the same car
Hey, from my personal experiences the Superb is better. They both are almost the same car with just different badge, however the Skoda's design is more appealing to my eyes from both inside and outside of the car. Superb is also bigger and has a little bit more practical and easier-to-use-everyday gadgets.
Basically a VW Phaeton but cheaper?
Thanks(:
@luladavid Audi still make some of the best luxury saloons on the market anywhere in the world but if I was on a budget the Superb can't be beaten!
The 4x4 Estate is the car to get, 2Lt diesel 180 horse power 18k now at 2 years old.
👍
search for "Skoda Flip REMOTE KEY CASE FOB SHELL" its about 6 Euro, made from leather.
I was on my keys, I'm sure it's an option available from the dealer.
he's like the Irish Alan partridge 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wait! I can translate this: My Dad has this car, it's cool
it even plays mp3 on the bluetooth
my tad have this car is coll
whats the difference 2:39 - 2:45 the answer is on the door
My dad just ordered a 2.0 TDI Elegence saloon walking out of the showroom and getting back into the 2012 Mondeo he has atm was a shock the Ford just felt sooo cheap and nasty inside compared to the Skoda GERMAN BUILD QUALITY RULES ha
If there was any money being made I'd have someone to help me but alas I'm not sure anyone is interested.
So I might actually be buying one of these. I don't even have children, but a cheap luxo-barge for pennies will be lovely.
+g_tripwood_industries love your Dude, Dude
Thank you, Bob. Love your videos dude, been watching them for years. Seriously considering a 1.8TSI DSG one of these (a 2011 with not very miles on the clock) seems like a bargain barge to me.
g_tripwood_industries Seems like a good buy, there have been some reports of DSG problems so just check that all the servicing has been carried out. Also make sure the dealer gives you a bit of warranty with the car and you'll be getting a luxobarge!
Well I own a DSG currently - I believe the servicing (at least on the wet clutch 6 speed) is every 40K miles, at 15K this one has probably not been done at all. The dealer is a Skoda Main dealer and I know they used to give 12 month warranty, In the UK we can do an MOT history lookup and it appears it's literally done 3,000 a year since it's birth so it looks like it's been very gently used. I think I could be onto something.
So it appears I bought it :) Yay
whats a cake car then?
Bob, you look and speak like you just woke up
@846524162 For the money, the Superb is very hard to beat.
dude you need a camera man very badly!!
my brother have one 2.0 sti
ooo it have a biiiiig space and looks superb from inside but i dont like the outside look!
from out side it's look like a cheave car with nothing "superb" in it.
Its always miserable over there isn't it
In 2012 it was yeah
