On the show today, Jared Bernstein, Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, breaks down the April jobs report that showed US employers scaled back hiring, and the unemployment rate unexpectedly rose. Democratic Representative of New Jersey, Andy Kim, gives his insight on why he voted no on the House of Representative's legislation aimed at combatting antisemitism and shares details of what he states is a better bill to address these concerns. Haley Stevens, Democratic Representative of Michigan and Co-Chair of the Congressional Hostage Taskforce, shares her insight on hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza and if there are any signs of a breakthrough.

The US report demonstrates 3.9% unemployment; here is the problem:
    Welfare recipients currently: 18%
    Homeless currently: 7.4%
    Actual unemployment is between 7.4%
    and 18%
If you are going to look at joblessness, let's use reality.

NO, the unemployment rate is over 30%. How can it be less when the labor participation rate is only ~63% ???

@@climjames1677 Available jobs and unemployed are possible when you have more jobs posted than available workforce. The issue with availability can be a mix of skill requirements, location, and/or work conditions which make it difficult to fill openings. You can also have seasonal jobs which are grouped in with full-time positions. There is a huge dynamic at play beyond what is represented.
