A folk voice is a true voice. No studio trickery. No false accents. Just singing it it’s purest form (and she whistles too!) Eliza Carthy is one of our greatest voices
Unfortunately, there is a tendency for singers to adopt a mannered 'folk voice' when performing traditional songs.
Less so nowadays but Martin Carthy was certainly guilty of this in the early 1970's.
Damn, close my eyes and its her mum, wonderful the music of the people.
Mesmerisingly beautiful. And that accompaniment - he seemed to be following her every word with that guitar, such a connection between them...
Martin and Eliza Carthy. Father and daughter. Wife/Mum was Norma Waterson.
That guitar and those chords - only Sir Martin Carthy can produce that sound
Tears in my eyes - lovely song and lyrics
Extraordinary, very wonderful.
Beautiful singer. Excellent song.
Great song, amazing singer and guitar player !
Impossible to sing better 😍🤩
Hope things are going better for you all now. Please keep your many loving fans updated. So wonderful to see and hear Martin! as well as Eliza!
First time I heard this when they did this and it’s stayed with me. Beautiful
Fabulous.
Marvelous
Eliza can sing anything. I am partial to her folk balladry, but her mom before her crossed over into jazz and pop effectively.
That lass just breaks my heart every time she sings: in a good way, obviously. Her ma was the same, just pure love of the music and totally honest communicator.
these two
Simply superb.
Great stuff!
Amazing...
😊😊😊
Super pretty tune
like her Mama. Beautiful!
Eliza doing what Eliza does best 'Entertain'
Beautiful.
Talent.
Great.
Wow. And to think it all nearly ended because of Covid.
its like your at an open mike but the music is transcendent
I'd just like to say I hope that Liza and Martin are over the worst of the last two tumultuous years.Sorry to hear about all the bad times.
Disappointed that it wasn't their version of Ken Dodd's 1964 hit.
That would have been the ultimate folk/pop crossover.
Sounds almost like jazz
