Very nice job, A+. Safety C-, next time wear a mask when spraying, safety glasses are also a good idea. Positive critique, you do great work, thanks for sharing your process.
how did you figure out how to draw the arch on? did you free hand or use an instrument? then did you use a bandsaw to cut it? I'm working on a similar box myself but have never made a foot before. Thanks!
Hello. I am now one of your subscribers and simply love this build. I do have some questions since I am new to putting feet on boxes. What is the thickness of the feet material and what is the height of the feet material after the two species are glued together?
Hi Lee...thank you for subscribing to my channel. The foot is 1" thick and 2" tall. The walnut strip is 1/2' and the mango 1 1/2". I cut a 3/8" x 1" rabbet to accept the main body of the box and mitered the corners. Hope this helps...good luck.
Is the trick for long point-long point 45 miters, to simply subtract thickness from final dimension, which in turn will get a starting point from how far the blade is?
If I understand your question correctly, you are asking for the best way to measure long point to long point. I start by cutting the 45 on one end of my stock and then measure from the cut to the measurement that I want and then cut to my mark. I hope this helps but feel to follow up if you need to. Thanks for watching.
Love this box Wes! The contrasting woods look fabulous and the video is instructive and entertaining. Great job!
Thank you John...I appreciate your kindness and support.

CZcams lecturers are so annoying
Master craftsman as usual! Thank you very much for sharing your skills Wes!
Thank you so very much for watching! I really appreciate your comments.
Just absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Nice work. I’m trying to make a keepsake box myself and wondering what ogee bit you were using.
West nice work. I am learning a lot from you. But I think you should wear a mask when you’re spraying.
I was wondering why didn't you make the splines and feet with the same wood as the lid?
That’s a nifty jig you made for the saw!
Hi Kady...thank you!

Great looking box
Thank you very much ! I appreciate you watching.
Has anyone said to you that woodworking with a fence and a mitre gauge at the same time is not good? Am I missing something?
I’d guess having the blade at 45 keeps it from getting trapped but I still would never do it
I think you are correct.
Thank you for the great video of your beautiful box. You inspired me to make one myself. What finish did you spray on your box?
I used a clear pre-cat lacquer. Thanks for watching, Wes

Not to be a killjoy… love the box.. but you really should wear a respirator when spraying your finish! Beautiful work though!!

Wes, Great Box! You said the box was 10 X 18, but what is the height?
Thank you for your kind words Greg. The height of the box is 8 1/4" . Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWes Is it 8 1/4 with the feet ?
@@gregmacintyre3646 Yes...8 1/4 includes the foot. Thanks
Thanks for the reply Wes, I am going to try and build one myself.
Sure, everybody has a wide belt sander. did enjoy the build up just have to plan a poor mans way to achieve this result
