i like the went out and "spent our own money" take lol. of course anyone who gets something for free will like it.
Exactly! So glad you picked up on that. That's why I said it - of course people who get it for free think it's a great set!!
Great, honest review. Build looks beautiful! Thank you guys for giving us the scoop!
Our pleasure!
Always fun watching. Great review! I need this set yet
Oh man lol I love watching these videos! So sweet :)
I love the review. I am personally about halfway through this build and am loving the process. You are so right that there are a lot of awesome techniques used to put this set together. Such an awesome set and great detailed review from you both. Keep up the great content.
Thank you so much!
Great review, as usual! And thanks for buying the set with your own money to provide an independent review that's not beholden to Lego.
I paid USD450 here in Japan. At that price it's a steal! Even at the higher prices elsewhere it still works out (usually) at less than 10 cents/ piece. They could have sold it as three separate models but I'm more than happy with going large.
That's a great deal! I tend to think Lego views these kinds of releases as "We're putting out one set, so how big do we go?" So as much as I'd like to break it up into 3 separate sets, they don't see it that way.
Appreciate your content. It's almost educational. Certainly has original nature, comparing with the rest of related subject in the net. Very positive vibes Best wishes.
That's very kind, thank you!
New Subscriber here! I am only on Bag #7 but thoroughly enjoying the build. Oh, and you are a fortunate man.
Yes, Colin IS a fortunate man 😀
The only reason the designers insist that its just a random dwarf is because they dont have the liscence to the hobbit.
Love that you guys build together. Wish my significant other cared enough to do that but its okay 😂❤
I'm glad they went big!
My only problem with the set is the stickers.
This is a $500 set and it shouldn't have any.
I totally agree, I hate putting those stickers
Great video. I love the set. One thing i really like is that some of the characters of the council can actually sit, Gandalf, Elrond, Frodo, they have the extra pieces for them to appear be sitting, but what about the rest? I would have really like for the Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir and Gimli (with feet dangling) to have that option for them to be sitting in the chairs.
But... they are sitting ? The reason they gave elrond and gandalf those is because the dress piece they use
can't have them sit. Normal figures don't have this issue.
There was a pricey Harry Potter Lego set of the shopping street, I didn't know where I would put it, it was expensive - so I passed it up. I wanted it a lot but it was to expensive. I wished they had broken it into smaller sets that linked together, so I could of had part of it.
I am a big fan of LOTR , although by been outside of the US this is definitely a pass to me due to its price, which is unfortunate. The set is a bit pricey, but when you add the shipping and customs to any international location, becomes a $1000 set. I believe LEGO will have made more profit with a more affordable sets that maybe could have been modular to build something like this.
I love the set, i bought it today at the Lego store in Rome with 25% discount: i think it is worth it.
Holy crap I was in line with you! I was right behind you lol
Cool! Small world!
If you split it into the three sections, what is the minimum depth needed? 50cm is a bit deep on the space requirement so I’m trying to see if it would work if I angled one of the sections
Yes, it can be angled for a smaller depth! We actually talk about that in another video. czcams.com/video/3eLnsCQRY8s/video.html
Totally agree on that as se ent that it should have been a $300 set focusing just on the main building. The set is clearly worth the money considering what’s in clouded but it did not have to be included.
A $500 Helms Deep or Minas Tirith/Palenore fields would make much more sense as more scenes are set within those expansive environments and the battlefield and armies themselves would take up a lot of the piece count.
However I understand why they went with Rivendell as it’s the only sequence in the film that includes the entire fellowship, Bilbo, Arwen, and Elrond. It also could be used for any Hobbit fans who have the whole company of dwarves from those films. Also the design team mentioning it being the location with the worst representation from the original waves, so they wanted to right that wrong.
I haven’t decided if I’ll purchase the set myself, perhaps if it’s instock during double points, if there’s a good gwp, or if I have points I can use to soften the blow (it’s $670 here in Canada)
If you are not driven to buy lotr sets, you should definitely consider the lion knights castle, which has way more features, space and figures for a 100$ lower price point
The "old dwarf" is gimlys dad. So it's his second figure to date.
"Dr. Sheldon Cooper and Dr. Amy Farah Fowler presents, Dr. Sheldon Cooper Fun with Legos"
$500 for 15 minifigures and 6,000 peices. YES extremely worth it. People just want to hate good quality lego sets
Lego told the developers they can only do one set and if it sells x amount then they will consider making more Lord of The Ring Sets so that is why this is a one set not 3.
The Rivendell set comes in an interesting and nice box. Rivendell looked good in the movie. The Lego Rivendell set is based on the popularity of the movie. ... facts quickly.
If you go by price per piece you would think it would be 600... no way they would sell a 6k piece set for 300. Cmon
It’s an amazing set. I just wish they would have separated this into 3 sets instead of 1. Unless they are thinking of explanding it
*expanding
u guys are a really nice couple! u look very genuine and funny. just subbed 😃
Thanks for subbing!
Your suggestions made a cheaper build. But I would have not bought the set unless it is what it is today.
Fair enough! As LOTR fans, it is so fun that they really went all out! However, I am sure there are a lot of other LOTR fans who would like to own it, but just can't at that price point. But maybe many of those fans would be like you and feel it wasn't enough to make buying it worth it anymore if they made those compromises.
3:10 the old dwarf is Gloin, Gimli’s father
It’s not called that in the set I think
@@fatman9468 interesting. I suppose that although he is a prominent member of the Council of Elrond in the book, it isn’t clear that he took part in the council in the movie.
@@VideoGameSlang yeah, I just finished reading fellowship lol
@@VideoGameSlang 😊
Great set. Can’t wait to find a girl to build with
Lots of printed pieces and that adds cost too.
Sorry about being “that guy”, but did you guys make a small mistake with the roof (02:35)? Seems like some of the sloped pieces are not symmetrical aligned to each other.
Second ☺️
Six statues*
It's 600 euros in Holland. No good :(
Whoa...that's a lot!
No it's not, I bought it for €500.
Mine stays in the box sealed
Whyyyy
wdym "less expensive" its only 500 bucks everyone can buy that lmao
Designers have surely impressed everyone with that set. I dont think it would be good to split it. The price is totally adequate and also pieces there are all very useful and good. Lots of red brown, gray and green stuff. The ratio of pieces there is more than double, from my calculations pieces price is 2,3 more than the set is worth so its definitely worth not mentioning the 15 unique awesome done minifigs which are usually worth even more than original price with 5 capes on. Its worth nothing that elves hairs are rubber with plastic head cover+ ears. Nice design also. Well IMHO its good start, I hope its not the end
WRONG! You are missing the point of the set completely. Its not "Rivendell, a scene from the coucil" it "Rivendell" you dont HAVE to put the figures in that council area...you can put them ANYWHERE in Rivendell.
500 too much? And then cry with an iPhone instead of using a China smartphone. Very credible
I thought it was too small for the price
