They were born on Isle of Man, a small island in the Irish Sea, lived there a couple of years and then moved to Manchester, England in 1955. Barry would be around 8 and Robin and Maurice around 5 at this time. In 1958 they moved to Australia and began their career as professional musicians in 1959. Their first television appearance in Australia was when the twins were 11 and Barry was 14. They had some popularity in Australia and made semi-regular appearances on Brian Henderson's Bandstand singing a mix of original songs they wrote and covers of current hits. They decided if they were going to get anywhere they needed to return to England. They returned to England in 1967, when they were 17 and 20 years old and landed a recording contract in a relatively short time. They added a lead guitar player and a drummer to their band. They were wildly popular from 1967 to 1969, when Robin left the band. The Bee Gees reformed after 18 months apart and had some success until about 1971. They had a dry spell for around 4 years where they recorded several albums with mediocre sales trying to find a new direction. Producer Arif Marden steered them more towards R&B music and their 1975 album Main Course was very successful. Many of the songs featured a funk/R&B sound and Barry using his falsetto for the first time. You should check out some of their 60's music. There's a lot of great stuff just waiting to be discovered!

That was Music way back when it knew no boundaries and no color. Music was just music. Compared to the generation of fake this, fake that, auto-tunes, the music back then was GOD-GIVEN talent. It was either that or the musician or group had to find and refine their sound and voices. In short, they had to work. Today's music doesn't hold a candle to the music of yester years.

The Bee Gees are the 3 Brothers Gibb. Barry was born in 1946. Robin (long blond hair) and Maurice (pronounced Morris) are fraternal twins born in 1949. They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins Maurice and Robin were 5 in 1958. Their first albums came out in the early 1960’s. Their career ran from 1958 to 2009. After 2009 Robin and Barry still produced music and albums but not under the Bee Gees.
The twins passed away, Maurice (1/12/2002) and Robin (5/20/2012). Barry is still alive at the age of 76, and still writing songs, performing, and putting out albums. One of the great things about the Bee Gees and their long career is that they were constantly growing and reinventing themselves.
They have a younger brother Andy (born 3/5/1958) who performed on his own. The Bee Gees wrote songs for him and sometimes they all performed together. Andy was just as talented as his older brothers. Andy died in 3/10/1988 from inflammation of the years, as a result of a viral infection.
The Bee Gees wrote and produced pver1,000 songs to include songs they wrote for Diana Ross, Dion Warrick, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton and even Michael Jackson.
They have sold over 120 million records worldwide (with estimates as high as over 225 million records sold worldwide), making them among the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the Hall's citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees." With nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bee Gees are the third-most successful band in Billboard charts history behind only the Beatles and the Supremes.

Mom and dad were from originally), then in 1958 soon after their youngest brother Andy was born ( he had a solo career), the family immigrated to Australia. In the 60’s they moved back to England ( London). In the early 70’s they moved to Miami Florida. Barry, is the oldest and only surviving brother. He still lives in Miami with his wife Linda. He was knighted Sir Barry Gibb by then Prince Charles ( now the king) for his charity work. They have written over 1,000 songs, many for other artists. The subject matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is about survival in the streets of criminal New York inspired by the Nic Cohn paperback Tribal Rites of the Saturday Night, who was the plot for the classic Saturday Night Fever Movie. Since 1977 it is now the fifth biggest single off all time with 32 million sold worldwide 😱. Claimed from in a survey of all radiostations around the globe as most airplayed song of all time in 2017- every 20 seconds - this plays everywhere around the world and for sure it is the most iconic song of the 70´s decade. 🍾It’s a part of our shared cultural heritage now - one of those pop miracles that just never gets old, never wears off, never loses its charge. It remains alive. And indeed one of the most covered pop songs in history.🎖

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born.
All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too czcams.com/video/7niXSh7vWRI/video.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: czcams.com/video/WH_j90fCIk4/video.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out czcams.com/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/video.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: czcams.com/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/video.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you czcams.com/video/CA4CInDnTk8/video.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: czcams.com/video/162GlAEpfrY/video.html.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on czcams.com/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/video.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing czcams.com/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/video.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

Brothers Barry, Maurice & Robin Gibb began in 1955 as The Rattlesnakes, (Barry age 9, the twins almost 6). 1958, were renamed BG’s/Bee Gees. Their 1st international hit was Massachusetts in 1967, #1 in 13 countries. In the US alone, starting in 1967, they had 30 top 40 hits (23 in top 10, 9 #1s & 6 releases were consecutive #1s). Worldwide, over 120 million records sold. 22 studio albums. 83 singles. 2 live albums. 15 compilations. 4 Soundtracks, including Saturday Night Fever, 1 of the best selling soundtrack of all time (in Library of Congress, as Culturally Significant). 3 Grammys, plus Grammy Lifetime Achievement & Legend Awards. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Songwriters Hall of Fame (1031 songs by Barry, Maurice & Robin, together, alone or with others). Wrote hits for Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Steisand, Frankie Valli, Samantha Sang, Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers & more (many also produced by Barry). Barry is the only songwriter in history to have 4 consecutive #1 songs on US charts. Starting with Bee Gee's Stayin Alive, hit #1 Feb. 4 & held for 4 weeks. March 4, was bumped by brother Andy Gibb’s (Love is) Thicker Than Water, #1 for 2 weeks. That was displaced by Bee Gee's Night Fever, #1 for 8 weeks, followed by Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You, #1 week of May 13. Since Barry co-wrote all 4, from Feb. 4, 1978, till mid-May 1978, with no gap, a song (co) written by Barry held the #1 position. Not many will ever come close to their career.

It’s so awesome to see how many young reactors are hitting The Bee Gees hard. Despite their years of success and legions of fans, they got a huge measure of shit from people who put them down for being “disco.”

Hey Cooly - sending out some Peace and Love! This is what music is all about - it brings us all together! Some of the best music comes from some of the most unexpected people and places! Disco Era was so fun and so exciting - people of all races and walks of life loved it - those clubs were full of energy. The BeeGees were Disco Music - they were great but you know at the time like every hot trend they got over played and you had traditional classic rock folks dismissing Disco Artists as fads. I am glad to see guys like you Cooley giving them a listen and giving them the Credit they deserve - they made great music that does pass the test of time. This is just one of many - the soundtrack for the Disco Era is for the movie Saturday NIght Fever which was Composed by the Bee Gees. Enjoy you are going down a fantastic rabbit hole on this type of music!
