Was 18 when this movie released. Watched this movie on the last day of my HSC board exams in 1994. Nearly 30 years. Got the cassette and played the songs non stop for a week. I remember the lyrics to the song to this day.

Shahrukh played the role of a loser in this movie. A loser who is neither the brightest student, nor a handsome hunk, nor a success in any other field. He resorts to lying to get the girl he wants, and yet fails. He fools his parents by forging a fake marksheet. He is full of flaws.
Despite all his flaws, his character had a heart of gold. Even after successfully forging a marksheet, he feels guilty of fooling his loved ones, and comes clean, in front of the entire party. One of the most emotional songs : Woh to hai albela.
Despite the girl agreeing to marry him, he sacrifices his love because he knows he is only a friend, and her true love is someone else.
And despite looking completely worthless, he has one talent - his music. When he plays his music, he pours his heart out.
Shahrukh played the role of this vulnerable, flawed loser with such charm, that everyone rooted for him. We all could relate to his character Sunil, and that is why we all smiled whenever he succeeded in his shenanigans, and cried with him whenever he had a heartbreak.
We all forgot it is Shahrukh. We all identified with the character Sunil, because we felt it was us.
His character gave us hope you could be written down by the world, but still you could live the life and embrace all its joys and heartbreaks.

My whole life has been movies. I used to watch a lot of Bollywood when i was a younger and i am from Nepal. When I grew i up I thought Bollywood movies more of cliche and unwanted and same story in every film but shah rukh has always been my inspiration. I started watching Hollywood and i love Hollywood and i loved it. They make sense and believe me when i say it. I am a movie freak and i have watched a lot of movies in my life. I have touched almost every director in Hollywood, and believe me there are world class Hollywood movies. Nevertheless my favourite movie is Kabhi haan kabhi naa. Whenever i feel low and lack of motivation i watch this movie. The character Sunil relates my failures as being a looser. But somehow it make me feel really good. During the era of Bollywood love story and unnatural action this movie was ahead of its time. This my fav SRK movie as well and this is coming from a person who has watched every SrK movies from Fauji to Dunki.
