It is not a miracle that all passengers survived, but thanks to the precise actions of the cabin crew.
The cabin crew had judged the exits that could be opened in a cabin engulfed in flames, and had given precise instructions to escape without their luggage. As the telephone lines to the cockpit were disconnected, the cabin crew in the back seat had to use their own judgement to determine an escape route. In the end, three of the eight escape exits were usable. Finally, the captain took a final look around the cabin and evacuated the few remaining passengers before making the final escape. It was not a miracle, but it was brave.

It is important to note, they did not collide on the tarmac, as she said. They collided on the runway as the Japan Airlines plane was landing, and the Coast Guard plane crossed the runway without clearance. I don't know why people call the runway the tarmac. The tarmac is where I park my plane, or do my runup.

Disasters don't just happen. They're a chain of critical events. The fact that only crew members perished, means that they stayed on board making sure passengers made it out of the plane safe.
    Our deepest sympathy.

It's not the crew members on the commercial plane that perished, but those on a coast guard plane collided with the commercial plane and on its way to help victims of the earthquake, which makes it even more heartbreaking as they were killed on their mission to save other people :(

No the crew of the passenger plane was also safe, it was the crew of the coast guard plane that was killed. I dont believe there were any passengers on the coast guard plane, only crew. Tragic nonetheless.

Unfortunate, however nippon doesn't know how to conduct safety rescue operations like they do in the us.they really need to take a page from our book and learn to do the job right without incidences like this.

@@LornAuArcos32 No, they didn't. Apparently the CG plane was taxiing and told to hold short of the runway - instead they entered the runway and lined up. Meanwhile, the Airbus had been cleared to land with the assumption that the runway was clear, and landed on top of the CG plane. Why the CG plane entered the runway when they weren't cleared to do so, and why the Airbus didn't go around if/when it saw the CG plane... Hopefully the investigation will tell us that.
