As a Benidorm regular for more than 30 years it has become increasingly obvious (even prior to Brexit) that the Spanish authorities would prefer not to have British visitors.

Its an EU (in fact worldwide) thing why do you think places ask to see your passport when you check in at the hotel. I used to travel for work and was asked for my passport, and that includes Italy, France, Poland and all over the world... No body is enforcing this and in fact next year when ETIAS comes in it wont be needed as you have already been pre approved to travel.

@@BenidormbyAna so hows this going to work given the strict GDP laws that Britain has passed???
This is going to interesting because under British law by asking to see someone’s bank balance your breaking the law.
      Not
Sounds to me like “you can come here if you have thousands of euros to spend to boost our ailing tourism industry if not you can’t come”
Then when you do get there half the pubs and restaurants are closed 2 to 3 days a week because they can’t afford the waiting staff.
Starting to think Spain is going down the tubes.

It’s not “Every” Tourist. The Spanish have always had this in place for suspicious people arriving from third countries to Spain. It’s exactly the same when third country Tourists arrive in the UK. You MAY be asked to prove you have sufficient funds for your stay. They will also look for proof of where you are staying and why you came to the UK in the first place. Arriving in Australia and America expect the same questions. It’s not a big deal for genuine tourists.

Thank you Ana for mentioning the rules which have come in , some of which have been in place for years. The UK has left the EU so it is understandable that it is now treated like a third country. Some of the British press have blown these changes out of all proportion just to create a headline and try to boost its sales figures. I travelled to Oliva via road passing through Dover to Calais and there was no issue. On our return, we arrived at Calais 3 hours early and we were put on an earlier ferry to Dover, so no issues at all, in fact it was a perfect trip through France and Spain. I've been holidaying in Spain for 53 years. What a shambles. Imagine as a holidaymaker on a pre-booked and well organised trip, maybe with your family or friends, perhaps going back to the same place you have been to for many years and now they want you to show that you have (cash?) €100 per day per person, unreal and downright preposterous. Who asks the question and at what point - passport control, immigration?? What proof is required? How do you show it? What if someone else can vouch for you, like your bank? How long are you staying, does someone calculate if you can stay or not? Can you use your credit card limit? Mental.

This is closer to shooting yourself in the head having taken dozens of holidays in Spain over the past few years it seems to me that the government in Spain are really trying to destroy their tourism sector. Just as people thought thinks we're going back to normal they introduce this idea which will IMHO destroy the thought of Spanish holidays for millions of people who want a break from the bad weather in the UK.

Imagine, you are in a middle of a pub having a beer, when a table or chair ends up on you. Avoid a groups of man who came on supposed vacation with not a single female amongst then, and all of then wishing ending the night even drunk with a girl, no thanks, stay safe, let polices deal with them., means a another video showing at each corner of benidorm there are police controls. Hello Ana, I think the problem is that most British people are not aware of the consequences of having voted to separate from the European Union, these laws and restrictions are not new, they have always been applied to tourists from third countries and not only in Spain. Let's see, if I'm from the United States and I want to enter the United Kingdom for tourism, do these restrictions not apply to me? Spain is not punishing the British who want to come on vacation, what is intended is to cut poor quality tourism and drunken tourism since in the long run it produces more expense than benefit. If your idea of a vacation is to come to Spain looking for cheap alcohol to be drunk all day, go wild in the streets getting into fights, throw yourself off hotel balconies into the pool, act like an idiot thinking that Benidorm and the coast of the Sol is a British colony where you can do whatever you want without consequences, please don't come to Spain, stay at home or go to another country where all this shit is accepted.
P.S. And above all, do not wear flip-flops with socks.
