  • I walk around Dewsbury in West Yorkshire known for it's rapid decline and for being one of West Yorkshire's worst towns. I try and find a decent pub as drinking seems like the only thing to do anymore. I also chat to some locals to see what their thoughts are on the town.
Join me on a search for what Dewsbury has to offer.....and to drink!

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies," Jefferson wrote. " If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around(these banks) will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
"The issuing power of currency shall be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Yep, my home town, wisbech in Cambridgeshire, started to fall 25 years ago when Blair opened the country to the former eastern bloc citizens, I seldom go back there now and when I do it's a flying visit, the wisbech I knew was a hard town full of hard men but there were no muggings or murders, these days it's full of Albanians and Lithuanians drinking in the streets, dealing, trafficking young girls, attacking locals out with their families, I don't recognise the place and most of the people I grew up with have moved now like I did in 2002 when my car got broken into for the umpteenth time. I still own a house there that i rent to an English couple but I don't think I'll ever live there again.

Back in the 70's I lived three or four miles away, there was a cinema, and my girlfriends posh mum used to shop at Marks and Sparks. There was a pub on the Batley Road which was the only place locally that sold Old Peculiar. In 1982, our kid's stag night started in Batley and crawled it's way towards Dewsbury, whilst the hen night ran the opposite way. When the two met up he and his fiancée buggered off at about 9:00 pm! We skipped a few pubs and spent the rest of the night drinking Old Peculiar. The next time I was there was in 2006, I went there to register Betty's death and it was pretty dire, I didn't go there again until 2015 after dad died to get a copy of his will certified. By then it had really hit rock bottom. Batley and Morley seem to have improved a little since the 70s, and maybe Wakefield too, but Dewsbury is dreadful.

I think if you want proper Guinness you have to travel to Ireland; the toxic pint - there's no way they wouldn't run the pipes out fully. Great vid. 🍺

Presumably the vape shops are like Turkish barbers and candy shops i,e, money laundering premises.

Why presumably? Everyman and his dog vapes, they're open for a reason, I don't vape, but I call in one once every fortnight to do some work and the amount of people who come in and buy them are easily 10-20 people in about a half hour span.

It is well known that such businesses are often used in connection with money laundering. The police have admitted they do not investigate as it takes too much time. Hence the vape shops, Turkish barbers, African cosmetics and wig 'installers' in abundance in every main street. Observation shows many of these shops rarely have customers.......

A lot of History, Great to look at old pictures of Dewsbury, shops railways Mills
......... But now!!!!! The centre needs serious cash investment. But it seems almost too far gone. Hanging eaton/Shaw Cross best parts on the out skirts. We go to Ossett or Wakefield centre. What a shame what its come to. Id love to go down to Dewsbury centre and be proud. Have a good afternoon shopping, eating but you can't. Not sure what else to say. Depressing.....just keep driving through! Glum.

Also the fact that beer is so expensive.. everything has been designed to make this so expensive so people will either buy elsewhere or do without.

I clocked that. And I thought ‘state of that’ just shows why country’s on slippery slope innit.
