    honestly, i feel like if the spikes were retractable that could eliminate all the liability. being able to choose when the spikes point out could also eliminate having to remove and reset the trap!

      it seems like that doesn't really address the pet issue. also, i'd be afraid i'd forget to retract the spikes in the morning after the raccoons leave in the early morning.

    Kevin saw a product people would buy for a problem which isn't going anywhere with huge margin & He knows company isn't going to skyrocket in valuation. This was a perfect case for a royalty deal no over the top marketing is needed just kevin makes some calls puts this in retail chains and here's a perfect passive business for him and the owner. Kevin is someone who will invest in a plain boring business other sharks won't

    The solution to the liability problem is to make the spikes conceal when weight over 50lbs of weight is on them because the heaviest racoon weighs 50lbs.

      Exactly. This isn't some billion dollar business. It's a cheap product with a high margin with a smaller niche market. By scaling the business with the investment he can reduce the margin even more so doesn't mind giving up a royalty.

    Maybe selling it to industrial facilities, college cafeterias, restaurants..even parks where they get into trash....everyday homes with pets, elderly, disabled family members or kids....could be a problem

      pigeons are smart, there's no need for something like this. The "equivalent" product where I live are soft rubber "spikes" that the pigeons see & avoid, but that cause no harm to anyone or any animal that actually touches them

      @@bbking006 and does it work? I'm guessing probably no, cause there's plenty of spaces for small pigeon feet between the spikes. The soft spikes we use on the other hand are completely effective. The heavy duty ones for major problem areas are 10cms long & spikes every 3cms, so the birds just look at them & fly away, cause they see absolutely no option to land without being totally impaled - but if they actually tried flying straight into them, they'd find they'd bend out of their way, they don't try it though

    Hear me out. If the raccoons have hypersensitive hands, that means it doesn't need to be that sharp. And surely there's an equilibrium point where its still sharp enough to be effective against raccoons but dull enough so that if a person were to step on it, thr weight distribution would mean that their foot doesn't get injured.

      You can literally walk on nails without being injured if they're arranged next to each other. I really don't think these are dangerous. Probably wouldn't feel good to step on, but it won't injure you. I think traditional mouse traps have a lot more probability of hurting someone and tons of people use those.

    Sharp problem can easily be solved...just dull the tips down a bit. So the feeling would be stepping on a lego rather than a perfectly sharp spike.

      yeh, that's what it should have been to begin with if he really wanted to go down this path of repelling animals with force, but those products already exist & at prices he can't compete with. Daisu near me sells sheets of spikes to keep cats & other animals out for $2.80 per large sheet. They basically have a lego like level of discomfort, but each spike is spaced around an inch apart & about an inch long, so animals like cats HATE them, but if you fall on them or something, it won't actually cause any harm cause they're soft enough they'll bend rather than break skin

    Raccoons are smart and once they get deterred a couple times, they’ll stop going to that location. Once you see raccoons again, put it back out. Probably need to do that four or five times a year in the summer/spring for a week at a time for them to learn. Plus he’s right, you don’t need to surround the entire pool, or a whole lawn.
    AND if neighbors are walking in your yard, that’s trespassing.

    There are plenty of people with pools that don't have pets or kids. Not to mention that the pool idea is just one aspect, I'd assume most people would place this atop their fences for multiple animals or intruders.

    Raccoons are extremely smart animals. If you get one cornered it’s vicious and will fight literally to the death. They will probably move something on top of that if there’s something they really want beyond it. You have to trap and relocate them. It’d be better to make trash cans covered in spikes

    They already sell these on Amazon and chewy. I own a bunch of them. Except they aren't as small as these! These do not work for raccoons for me but work for other critters like cats.

      @@DMAX-tp4pc How is it not illegal to do that to native animals in your country? You'd go to jail if you tried doing a fraction of that to possums or lizards in Australia! We're just expected to act like adults & take responsibility for securing our pet food if we don't want the wildlife eating it. Not rocket science to put your pet food inside & chase the lizards & possums & racoons & whatever outside when they come in (or just trap them inside & chase them around for a bit & apart from the lizards they usually get the idea & stay outside after that)
