I do hope the 164 slots are all meant for the base roster and none of the spots are reserved for dlc. I don’t mind if they put some dlc packs later on. Honestly if the base roster will be 164 I will buy every dlc character they put out later on. If some of these places are reserved for dlc I will not even get the game on launch and will wait till everything is available at a reasonable price
For Giant characters from ToP we potentially have Ribriane and that fusion of all the robots, potentially the shadow squid lady (though I don't think she would make it to base game)
And yeah Bergamo too, I actually forgot he had a giant form.

The tenkaichi games have always had transformations count as seperate characters. I prefer it that way. Each version will have different attacks and animations, unlike Xenoverse where its just a power up and the combo animations and supers stay the same.
I'm hoping we get Baby Vegeta with Golden great ape as a giant form along side Super saiyan 4 Goku.
My biggest hope is they bring back what if scenarios in the story mode to add some variety to the game. You can only retell the same story the same way so many times and Dragon ball games really need to shake things up.

What's your opinion on seeing Baby Vegeta, GT Vegeta, and GT Goku in this game?
All their forms is what im referring to. This being a sequel to BT3, it'd be weird to not at least have GT Goku Base, SSJ, and SSJ3 as well as Baby Vegeta, Super Baby Vegeta, and his Golden Great Ape form. I feel its about time, especially with GT Vegeta making it into Xenoverse 2, that GT Vegeta got his Base, SSJ, and SSJ2 as well.
My only issue with this is all that, including Gogeta, is 13 slots, and im unsure if they'd dedicate that many slots to GT with all the potential Super content & the fact that we're only getting 3 more slots than BT3 had
I think at the very least we’ll get GT Goku and Vegeta but the villains I could see being DLC

I think it's fair to assume that manga characters aren't coming out anytime soon. Mostly because of the fact that Dragon Ball Games never add any characters that haven't been animated. For example, look at Dokkan Battle and the Super Dragon Ball Heroes Characters; of course they take a long time to come out for that game but they've only ever done it for characters that have been animated. Once UI Goku made his debut in the show we got a unit a few weeks/ months later (I can't remember the exact timeframe but you get my meaning) Same thing for Xenoverse 2. That's been my general rule of thumb for characters i want to see brought into the game.
As for characters i want to see be playable for the final base roster (or even DLC) i really hope that they give us a larger GT cast. Till this day we still don't have a majority of the Shadow Dragons playable( Haze, Rage, Naturon, and Oceanus). No General RIlldo, No GT Goten or Gohan either. I'd like to see Team Bardock be playable as well since we've only gotten Fasha aside from Bardock himself where's the love for Shugesh, Tora, and Borgos??? And since Giant characters are officially confirmed (i assumed as much from seeing Bergamo ) I'd like to see Dr.Wheelo and the other movie villains like Fat Janemba and Hirudegarn come back as well. Hell i'd even like to see Babidi's minions playable too. I can specifically see the Shadow Dragons and Team Bardock being DLC.
Nice ideas. I think Ledgic and Luud would also be cool additions to the roster from GT. I also hope we see more characters from the games expanded universe as DLC.
Now that character variations has been confirmed, it's pretty much guaranteed this will only cover DBZ and Super. OG Dragon Ball, DBZ Movies and GT are gonna be DLC if they get included. In order to have a proper story mode, then characters like Dodoria, Zarbon, Ginyu Force, Android 19, Dr Gero, etc. These characters has to be prioritized over someone like SSJ4 Goku, Baby Vegeta, etc. Becouse if they only did a few characters here and there from OG Dragon Ball, GT, etc. Then the story mode is gonna be all messed up. Let's say we later got Android 19 and Dr Gero as DLC. The story mode wouldn't work becouse then we've skipped them. So it makes a lot more sense like someone in the comments here said, to release "Saga DLC". Which would include Saga's from Original, DBZ Movies and GT. Including story mode arcs and the characters involved. Also since character variations are involved, we can expect they'll have a lot of emphasis on story accuracy. Meaning they'll add pretty minor characters from DBZ, like they did in Tenkaichi 3. With this in mind, it makes sense they go all out with DBZ and Super, saving the rest for DLC packs.
Something i'm confused about is whether they'll have Super variants for all characters. Tien, Android 17 and Sword Trunks has their Super outfits on. Can't tell if these are variants or costumes. Also since variants are included. Why no Cell saga Goku or Freiza Saga Vegeta? Why not 2 seperate Goku when he fights Raditz and when he fights Nappa/Vegeta? Why not 2 seperate Freiza saga Goku when he fights the Ginyu force and when he fights Freiza? Should we have 3 different Kid Goku for each Original Saga? Should we have teen/young adult Goku when he fights Piccolo? And 3 GT Goku for each saga? What about we have 3 different Super Goku for each Super Saga? What determines what should be a variant? This makes things very complicated and confusing.

Other than a few additions from each series, i really hope they add characters from the expanded universe of Dragon Ball. After all the Sparking/Tenkaichi series is meant to be a big Dragon Ball toybox, and the expanded universe wasn't really a thing back in the BT3 days. It'd be cool to see characters and maps from those.
They could always do what they did with ultimate tenkaichi. Perhaps for transformations. Just put everything in the one character. And then during the character selection screen You can choose the abilities/special moves for that character in each form.
Because personally, I've always loved using the kaioken and then going super Saiyan 2.

This is a good video but I'm baffled that he said he don't think Transformations is going to be in the game when that's literally what this trailer is about and that's why you have different versions of the same base character because certain versions will transform into forms based around that particular time line. Like bass form super Frieza will transform into golden Frieza and base form Z Frieza will have the other transformations

They can go with 100 base characters, and 164 in total including transformation to still surpass BT3's roster.
Say what you will but i would much rather have random forgotten obscure characters than reskins with mixed move sets of the same characters. Maybe just add goku from dragon ball, goku from Z, and goku from super PLUS all the forms as secondary picks. Also no ki depletion if you pick ssj2 as your base pick. Or maybe just make it a custom option in the battle screen, (no form reverting unless the player chooses to). Not having to worry about being knocked out of the form if you just wanna have fun. I used to love the option of picking a stupid Frieza soldier and just havinh fun with it. They MUST add a POWERSCALE mode in which wvery character is true to their actual power level and battle power. Meaning krillen from super could just straight up body a goku from the saiyan saga. You could one shot ppl 😂. Or you could pick someone within the same power range or slightly weaker so that you have to actually fight accordingly. Imagine being cell fighting super Vegeta. You could still win but it'll be a hell of a lot harder.
Add a test your might mode. Add a racing mode similar to Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Flying and using power ups to win the race. Hide and seek mode. There's just so much you can do with a game with broad mechanics and open arenas. First to find the Dragon balls wins(capture the flag style). Idk. I could see this game being a master piece.
Imagine interactive arenas too. Like namek exploding. Picking a character like Frieza would give you the advantage because after the planet explodes he can keep fighting in the vacuum of space. Picking someone like krillin would be a disadvantage because you only have so much time before he runs out of breath or maybe takes tick damage from the arena. Or both 🤷🏻

Honestly, the roster being compromised of mostly variations is exactly as expected. Like, i think everybody is being delusional and forgetting that you need to model and code Every Single Character. And every Single Form. I get that modders have spoiled (PC) dragonball gamers, but like this roster is as big as you could realistically expect.

Unfortunately brolys forms are all different slots. So instead of clicking on broly and picking his ssj form or base form as an option..it seems that it'll be 4 different separate slots for broly and his forms. Same with all of Vegetas forms. It'll be 8 different vegets slots instead of5 Saiyan saga Vegeta with great ape form, super Vegeta, majin vegeta and gt baby Vegeta.
The forms use to be available in a sub menu AFTER clicking a base form. If we have 4 different slots for cells forms im gonna be disappointed. Just give us 1 and let us pick from his forms. Cell from from ball super should hsve his own slot
