@@ryanjohnston8237 its actually not, the idea is to realize that you are atman, when you realize it, you will never forget it. Swami explains this by his example of Hamlet. Its similar to the fact that you dont have to remind yourself who you are. However, speaking this about Atman is easy realizing it is tremendously difficult. May God help us.

Advaita Vedanta is 100% correct. All knowledge is indeed thru experience and then attaching a name to it. Just research the development of IBM Watson and you will see that this is how machine Learning works. Machine is fed thousands of example and told what its called. This is machine experiencing each item and attaching a name to it and then later even if it has not seen anything like it before it can still say what it is. This is the core of machine learning and same for how any person or animal learns.

    Swamiji,
I learnt a lot from your lectures and benefitted. How do I ever repay the debt? I don't know. I can't even say God bless you because I am older than you. May people like you be there in every place where there is so much of suffering - caused by themselves and others.
I am a student of Ramakrisna Mission school - long time ago. I cherish that association.

All the forms and fellings are of the same substance as consciousness. Still your thoughts and see that the mind is empty like a mirror. When you look at the spacious mind with no thoughts you are pure awereness. Then a thought wil rise "this is it, i know it". This thought has nothing to do with reality. The thought refers to an inmagined person existing only thanks to thought. But realise then that at the same moment that thought is present there is the Knowing of this thought. This knowing is the empty mirror where all appearences are reflected. The difference with the mirror in which the human body is seen is that in this mirror not only appearences are reflected but at the same time also cognised.
According to mahamudra and dzogchen the nature of the mind with all its appearences is always empty and knowing.
You are the vast clear and luminous space "mirror" where all this appears. The appearences are always and only just this mirror.
You experience the thoughts that rise, you experience the feelings, memories, visions, sounds, tastes, somatic sensation that rise. It is thanks to you that this objects are being experienced. With no awereness there would be nothing.

When you experience, you're experiencing experience. When you remember, you're experiencing memories. But the bottom line - there's always an experiencing going on. I think that is why one has to start experience with calmness, serenity. I am complete, I am sat chit Anand until it becomes second nature or so wit
