True Bards are these Scottish men.this is just beyond magical.
By far best male folk duo of all time their voices are from another world and from very deep place indeed.
I hope all of Scotland are proud of these lads.
    The Corries forever! Scotland forever!
    Best regards from Ireland .

Farewell to all our Scottish fame
    Farewell our ancient glory
Farewell even to our Scottish name
    Sae fam'd in martial story
Now Sark runs over the Solway sands
And Tweed runs to the ocean
To mark where England's province stands:
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!
What force Argyle could not subdue
    Through many warlike ages
Is wrought now by a coward few
    For hireling traitor's wages
The English steel we could disdain
    Secure in valour's station
But English gold has been our bane:
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!
I would, or I had seen the day
That treason thus could sell us
My auld gray head had lain in clay
    Wi' Bruce and loyal Wallace!
But pith and power, till my last hour
    I'll make this declaration
We were bought and sold for English gold:
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

So many comments have this song and its meaning wrong. Burns is referring to the 31 Members of the SCOTTISH Parliament who sold out to the English in 1707 with The Act Of Union. The " Rogues" received land, money, and other considerations" for their treachery. The Act Of Union ended Scotland's independence. Hence Burn's " a parcel of Rogues in the nation"

Never forget that Rabbie Burns was Anti-Union to the very bone...
This rendition of Parcel O'Rogues is wonderfully moving.
For those unfamiliar with the Scots Leid - here are the lyrics
Fareweel tae a' oor Scottish fame,
    Fareweel oor ancient glory;
Fareweel ev'n tae oor Scottish name,
    Sae fam'd in martial story.
Noo Sark rins o'er Solway sands,

    Secure in valour's station;
But English gold has been oor bane -

O would, ere I had seen the day
That Treason thus could sell us,
My auld grey heid had lien in clay,

That's just ridiculous. I'm both patriotic, and nationalistic. My country has been denied "nationhood" for the past 300+ years, and it has been my goal to help regain our nation since as far back as I can remember. That doesn't make me racist. It just means I am proud of my Scottish heritage, and believe my country is entitled to be called a nation, like most other countries in the world. We were annexed at a time when ordinary people had no say. Now they do, and we will be a nation again.

Burns wasn't blaming the English in any way, but the Scots who sold out to them. Like so many of Burns' works this is more socialist than nationalist.

Alba and England had combined the crowns and had the same king in 1606 a but tensions arose when England wanted to appoint a Hanoverian Sophie to the throne while the Scots wanted a different king. England also relied heavily on Scottish soldiers to help her fight her wars, and was terrfied Scotland/Alba would align themselves with the French. Thusly Alba was tricked, bribed, bullied you name it into signing the Act Of The Union.

I certainly hope you are right. I'm an American, and we've deteriorated so far that many of our so-called free elections are won by the person who spends the most money. It is this way for Scotland: Who cares what might lie under the North Sea? It is not important. What is important is this. Scotland has about five and half percent of the UK population, pays about 8 percent of the taxes, and gets about 4 percent of the benefits. Westminster makes a huge profit having Scotland in the UK, so they are prepared to spend a huge amount of money to keep that asset. Some have said that an independent Scotland does not make sense because it is too small. Look at the world. The countries that cause the most suffering in the world are all large. Small countries are the only kind that make sense. I hope that if the vote is Yes that I will be able to afford to emigrate. And aye, Alba gu brath.

Picts, Scots, Ancient Britons, Norse, Danish, would any of those groups would sell us to Brussels?. Would Kenneth MacAlpine? Would the Kings of Dalraida before him? Would the Kings of Strathclyde? Would the Kings of Alba/ Pictland?. Would all those who fought The Norse?. Who fought the Angles?. Who fought the Norse? Who fought the Romans?. No I don’t think so?. Be independent. That doesn’t mean to hand my country over too Brussels and a European Empire formed by Surviving Nazis big names and Communists. It isn’t independence. It’s just your hatred of England. @kos Also in the 1950's (in my lifetime although I was very very young) the Queen was coronated yet the Scottish coronation she needed to undertake in Alba at the time was performed behind closed doors because the government at the time stated that "We don't want to acknowledge the fact Alba is a separate kingdom with their own traditions".

evenly and thinly over the country then it isn't counted as far as seats go. That is why we had a referendum within the last year to see if people wanted to change it. The Lib Dems within the UK as a whole are handicapped with the current system. Labour within Scotland have normally benefited from it as their support tended to be concentrated in the industrial Lowlands giving them lots of seats - far more than their share of the vote.

It is worth remembering it works both ways. After the union of the crowns in 1703(not shure) a Scottish king sat on the throne. I grant you its quite an anglocentric syistem, but that reflects the demographic of England to Scotland 10:1. At the end of the day countrys need to come together to go forward, not separate.

The Corries used to be three and made at least one LP as the Corrie Folk Trio and another as The Corrie Folk Trio with Paddie Bell. Just for your information, mate. That would be in the 1960's.
Have a look at the Corries website.

@kos "Hostory" was a mistake that I failed to notice and should have read History. As for Gaelic being spoke in the lowlands I presume that you have heard of the now defunct Lowland Gaelic or Galwegian Gaelic which died out sometime between the 1700's and 1800's? The Gaelic spoken now should always be termed Highland Gaelic.

SAOR ALBA! I hope that Alba throws off the English oppressors soon and gains independence. This songs is about the Scottish traitors who were bribed by the English to dissolve the Parliament of the Kingdom Of Scotland and get Alba to pass the Act Of The Union and not to the English as many seem to think.

@kos You stated in a previous post that many SNP supporters are wrapped up in pointless centuries old feuds and challenged me to make a case for independence without resorting to English bigotry, my point is that most SNP supporters want Scotland to be an independent nation again not based on centuries old feuds like culloden etc but in order that Scotland finally gets a government she votes for and can finally control all her own resources like any other country.
