- Half car, half motorcycle-three-wheelers like Vanderhall Motor Works’ Venice GT ($33,950) are a growing segment in the powersport world. Defined as both a reverse trike and autocycle, this vehicle category blends features of the two- and four-wheeled world for an experience like nothing else on the road.
--
The Venice GT is powered by a General Motors-sourced 1,485cc inline-four. This LFV generation powertrain is used in Chevrolet’s 2016 and newer Malibu automobile and features direct injection, turbocharging, and variable valve timing with a claimed 194 hp and 203 pound-feet torque. The transverse-mounted engine is positioned in front of the vehicle and puts power to the 18-inch front wheels via a torque converter-equipped six-speed automatic transmission.
Swing a leg over the fixed composite plastic bodywork and step inside the cockpit and it’s hard not to be impressed with the Venice’s bespoke interior. From the beautiful wood-grain steering wheel to the finely stitched leather seats, aircraft-style gauges, and toggle switches, the Vanderhall screams premium. Bright LED lighting helps you stand out and headlights offer a deep spread of light when driving after dark.
An automobile-style three-point harness secures driver and passenger and the Venice offers generous legroom for this 6-foot-tall driver. A tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel and forward/back seat let you tweak ergos. Instead of a mechanical key, the Venice GT uses a keyless-style fob. Press the starter button, notch the center-mounted shifter into “D,” and it’s time to ride, er, drive.
With the GT’s larger-diameter 3-inch slash-cut pipes, the Venice has a mean growl even at idle. Mash the gas pedal and it jumps off the line in a muted way-initially. It takes a few moments for the turbo to spool but when it does, hang on. The whirl of the turbo and waste gate pop-off, paired with the Venice GT’s low-slung, open-air cockpit make for an exhilarating experience, even without a handlebar.
A broad spread of torque is available for just over 2,000 revs. A degree torque steer pulls the vehicle to either side during wide-open acceleration in lower gears. Stay loose on the wheel and it straightens out as the transmission upshifts though its six-speed gearbox. When manual shifts are desired, there is a left-hand side-mounted chrome bump shifter. However, its performance is slow, unlike a manual, or DCT-enabled motorcycle.
With a copious turbo boost at lower rpm, the powertrain favors a short-shift-type driving style, as opposed to revving it out to its 6,500 rpm redline. Still, with a claimed 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds the 1,465-pound Venice zips around town with slot car-like low-speed handling.
Sharp-feeling triple disc brakes are equally adept at shedding speed, however the brake pedal is extra sensitive, so be prepared. For those seeking even more stopping performance, Vanderhall offers a Brembo brake package as an upcharge. All European-bound Venices are outfitted with this setup due to homologation requirements.
With a wheelbase of more than 8 feet, the Vanderhall delivers favorable ride quality over bumpy stretches of pavement, and its pushrod-type front suspension makes for a compact hood line with 4.6 and 4.7 inches of travel forward and aft. The Venice’s 75/25 weight distribution affords inherent road stability, but just in case the vehicle is outfitted with traction control and ABS.
Still, the Venice GT isn’t subject to the same safety standards as an automobile, so caution needs to be exercised during drives. Vanderhall says it has engineered front and rear crumple zones, as well as pseudo roll bars (Vanderhall calls them “hoops”), however these features have not been crash tested. So buyer beware.
In terms of creature comforts, the GT-spec Venices have electronically heated seats and automobile-type heater and fan. A Bluetooth-enabled two-speaker stereo lets you listen to audio during drives, and is very easy to pair on our iOS-powered smartphones. Cruise control is another functional touch.
More car than motorcycle, Vanderhall’s Venice GT is a worthwhile option for those who want to make a statement around town. With its classic lines and bespoke finish, it’s a nice alternative for those seeking a fun, zippy, and charismatic three-wheeler that blurs the lines between a traditional convertible and a classic heavyweight motorcycle.

Is it that hard to see over the dash or just your camera POV?
The video is so hard to watch when all i think is what i'm seeing is an actual driver POV.
He should have had the camera at the side of the helmet. I think it was under or on his chin so horrible angle there
What's up fellas? The vehicle does sit low, but to be fair I should have done a better job with the POV angle. Next time I will position the camera above and behind me so it provides a better view of the road. Thanks for the note.
Do over please Adam. Can’t see anything.
@Black March Things always take longer than you think.
A 30 minute video of a horn button, amazing.
😂😂😂😂
I only made it about five minutes in before I had to shut it down. I'm not watching a 30 minute video of the dash.
am i the only one who stretched the neck to try to see the front? ;(
This thing is so much fun to drive. Test drove one at the motorcycle show. Love it.
A simple second gopro mounted on the U bars of the seat would have done the job but i guess ignorance and laziness is bliss
in CA, helmet use is optional
My goodness but that thing reminds me so much of my Trihawk (I had the 2nd one ever made) bright red and so fun to go around corners - super low center of gravity, basically unflippable! On the downside, the suspension was very stiff and harsh, made your kidneys hurt after an hour but it did handle… It also was way too cold when it was cold out and WAY too warm when it was hot out - but it was a complete gas to drive - I actually got to drive a Mazda Rotary prototype Trihawk making about 200hp and Oh My Gosh - that was amazing (200hp in a 1500lb chassis = oh yah!) The Trihawk was drive and steer upfront with a weight bias was also about 77% upfront and 23% in the rear - much of it below the driveshaft level - they also used Renault R5 components, double wishbone suspension, heavy-duty frame and roll bar, though I found it nearly impossible to roll - back then we never had to wear a helmet but maybe that was because the cockpit was a bit more car-like… Trihawk also tried a turbocharged Subaru boxer motor, if I remember correctly - did Not get to drive that one sadly… what happened to mine, you ask? I gave it away to the x-wife in that divorce - she destroyed it in about 8 months to hear it told… Ugh… In any case, much thanks for all you do!
Cool review man, this thing's cool - I'd go camping in it
I saw a couple of them at the daytona bike week....videos captured by vloggers, thanks for the review
Bro this isn’t even watchable. You know this video is trash yet you uploaded it anyways. Glad to see you care about the content you put out
8:17 - "This thing handles pretty decent.... WOAH!" 😂 😂
The timing of that was amazing
Crappy camera position spoiled everything 😒
Fair enough. We will do better next time.
this is a great video of just the steering wheel of this vehicle. good job.
It gives me inspiration to build a reverse trike
The reviewer says it has a steering wheel like a boat...actually the steering wheel is very much like many old sports cars, not sure about the spokes but the rim is very similar to the one on the AC Cobra sports car back in the 60s.
Wish the camera was positioned much higher.
Is this superior to a Mazda Miata, or whatever they're called these days? Honest question, I haven't driven either machine.
Camera should be mounted a little higher
Please make another video that experience
Is it located around his neck?!
Chin mounted
No manual option?
It's a shame it doesn't have a true manual gearbox... that would be a blast!
Yep, I was looking at convertibles for the summers around MN, but for half of the price of the drop tops I was looking at I would rather have this!
This comment section sucks. Great video (besides the angle). This thing seems awesome! I definitely want one. Thanks for the info. I'd watch another video on it if you did one
I've seen enough of the horn button. 👋
why would you not take it on a long drive?
Here in the D.C. area they can take the HOV / Hot lanes for free, just like a motorcycle. That can save $30-$80 a day, not to mention an hour or more in commute time. They are popular on fair weather days....mostly driven by people who can’t ride a real motorcycle.
I struggle to see the appeal this thing. The Morgan 3 wheeler I understand as a quirky theatrical toy. I mean if the gave the Polaris a slightly more hopped up engine I could even understand that if you have the money for it. But what is basically a more dangerous, less practical chevy spark, for way more money? Yeah I can't understand this thing.
this thing is nothing at all like a chey spark. i tried it was a lot of fun and i love bikes usually. so spark does 0 60 in 4.5. feels very fast driving it
Front wheel drive with an automatic....well if that doesnt just stir the soul.....lmao.
Will it do wheelies in reverse?
Fookwit
I have 3 Harleys in my garage worth close to one hundred thousand dollars. Have owned Vettes including 2 Zo6s. Just bought one of these machines and the fun factor is unbelievable!!!!
And to all the haters complaining comparing this to a motorcycle go get one. And if you can't afford both make your choice.
Waheed you look so much younger!
what crazy vehicle this is man🔥 the sound is just amazing, I hope we get to see this in India.
Ha, India. That's cute
I love it 😎😎😎
Can’t see over the dash
I would get the Vanderhall over a Slingshot ANY day. The Slingshot is ugly, looks unfinished, and the materials used are nowhere near as nice. Needs a complete body kit to prevent vomit. I own a Can-Am Spyder RTS and don't regret it. It accelerates and corners great and it's a lot closer to the look and feel of a motorcycle than either the Vanderhall or the Slingshot. So why didn't I just get a motorcycle? Well, I've owned several, but the Can-Am has them beat on stability, storage (two trunks plus sidebags), comfort, wife feels secure on it, all kinds of safety features, you'll never lowside on gravel on the Can-Am like I did once on a motorcycle, and because the Can-Am is "different," cars actually see you. Best of all it's exclusive -- you see about 1 Can-Am for every hundred Harleys or Hondas.
Interesting, thanks for sharing. Put a Honda Civic SI NA engine and drivetrain or the new Civic Type R drivetrain in that thing with a reasonable up charge and move a bunch of them. 30+k for a GM motor and slush box is a push. Cheers.
It is a great looking machine. Since it is front wheel drive and auto only it will never see my money.
Go see the Campagna t-rex and v13, make in Québec like 20 years ago...
Budget friendly one for sure
More power to people who want these things as toys, but to me they're an expensive gimmick.
What's with the gloves?
Well, it can still tip over and it doesn't provide the impact protection that a Miata could provide.
Cant believe this doesn't only come in a stick/sequential box
Not only is it not a motorcycle, it is not even a manual? WTF is the point besides a toy for richie rich!? Hard no.
"WTF is the point besides a toy for the richie rich!?" You just described most motorcycles in the U.S.
Disagree. Maybe a 1200GS is but used bikes or entry level bikes I would not say so at all.
2020+ models are 4" _WIDER_ then prior models, not deeper.
I bet you'd enjoy a Can-Am F3-S so much more.
Yawn, this commute makes me sleepy and took a nap a minute in. Last commute on the KTM put me on the edge of my seat with street riding, racing and off road riding.
Thank The BABY JESUS, You Have YOUR HELMET ON !! LOL. OMG
I wish Harley makes one similar to this.
A Miata with a convertible top, a heater and an air conditioner costs about the same new. Not as unique, and probably a lot more reliable.
I want their EV model, the Edison
From a driver's pov, just a little sports car. Nothing to do with motorcycling.
Sports car with an auto?
"It doesn't handle poorly"
Narrator: (it handles poorly)
This is a think that I have never seen before😕....
This isn't a motorcycle 🤔
Can't do lanesplitting, can't lean when cornering, you're right man. More like a car than a motorcycle.
No one said it was
Honda K swap 9K rpm turbo with a cantilever suspention?.. And a smaller D shaped steering wheel. YES
You don't have to wear a helmet in Florida. 😉
There's a lot of negative comments but if money was no object I'd love to have one of these for trips here in the Arkansas Ouachitas/Ozarks. I think on cool Fall days here when it gets damp on these shady roads this would be quite fun.
A Thing like this would be cool with 4 wheels
Someone already makes that , called a Miata. Joking aside 3 wheelers are exempt from regulations that cars have to follow. If they made it with 4 wheels it’d be much heavier and would basically be a Mazda Miata
@@karbuckle8294 oh i get it now thanks .
But that little thing with 4 wheels would be a hell of a racecar :)
It's a car with one rear wheel missing :)
Cyber Gasty mhm
@@EbolaSquirrel ?
Wow it's a Morgan knockoff
Yes I'm struggling to see why anyone would pick this over a Morgan. Looks vanilla (apart from the novelty of the three wheeler), sounds vanilla.. drives vanilla (with that automatic)
More power less cost
It is cool looking but it is not a motorcycle so not sure why motorcyclist is reviewing this car. Should change the title to autocyclist. It is front wheel drive so I prefer the slingshot if I wanted an autocycle because of the nice smokey burnouts the slingshot can do and no torque steer.
Looks like a burrito
If it cant wheelie it aint worth my money
You do NOT need to wear a helmet in the state of California while driving Vanderhall vehicles. Please get your information correct beforehand.
Genuinely surprised they actually uploaded this video with that POV..... expect better quality from this channel
Cool, but I'll take a Morgan.
If it has a seatbelt you don't need a helmet in CA.
30 min video of a dash. Save your time and just look at a picture
It’s a three wheeler
wish you used a helmet cam
Removal of a back wheel doesn't make it an instant motorcycle.
It car is like the Morgan
Wouldn't consider it a motorcycle since it loses its balancing aspect, but it's still is a cool ride.
Is that to say if you put a sidecar on a Harley Davidson it is no longer in motorcycle?
"This thing handles pretty decent - Whoa!" So follow this up with an MC Commute of the Z H2. That may silence some of the grumblers. TEST IT!
they could at least Cam that POS motor
sounds like a chevy cavalier at idle
and Adam dyed his hair after last MC Commute...
Sorry but, I stopped watching as there was nothing to watch . :(
After you apologised to everyone for speeding i lost interest
Looks like early model of a Ferarri or Alfa Romeo race CAR from 1930's. Cool toy ,Yet !!! NOT a motorcycle.
It reminds me of a Lotus Super 7
Not a chance I’d wear a helmet driving that
It has no place on a motorcycle channel
Looks like a shoe.
It’s a car
Cool steering wheel shot
midlife crisis on 3 wheels
Its a 3 wheel car what a shit box
3rd
Cool review, but this thing is lame. I don't know who could possibly want one of these. Someone always gives some bizarre response like, "I was a professional rodeo clown but now I'm 78 and a triple amputee but want a motorcycle so I'm buying one of these, stupid!!" We don't generally build vehicles for a market consisting of, at most, one person.
Morgan sells a three wheeler, they pre sold more than 850 of them back in 2011 when it was launched (relaunched?) For something boutique like this there's certainly enough of a market to justify it. It's better to look at it like a little sports car with no rear grip than a motorcycle, it's just that this would be classified, registered, and insured as a motorcycle in the US because it doesn't have 4 wheels.
@@NewfieOn2Wheels the Morgan has RWD and a manual transmission though, that makes a big difference
No thanks
The whole helmet thing with these is the reason I’m not totally impressed with these. I absolutely refuse to wear a helmet while driving one of these.
Leave it to Commiefornia to make you wear a helmet.
Terrible video! 🤪
Dont do videos for the money.. make videos of bikes not these craps thanks
All videos are for money
@@the.communist you still dont get it... its like everyone works for money but there is a difference if you earn it clean or you kill for the money. thats what they do kills this channel name.
Far from a motorcycle...
I thought this was a "motorcyclist" channel. Just useless drivel about a silly toy. Nothing to see here, move along.
This is one of the ugliest vehicles I've ever seen. Historically, retro style vehicles don't sell well or last on the market. This holds especially true when it's a Chevy Cruze at heart! No wonder the check engine light was on. It was likely an emissions issue involving the turbo and pcv valve. I'm sure it's a blast to drive, but for that money, I don't want cheap toggle switches and that cheap fan switch. Any word on the cockpit being waterproof?
An ugly alternative to a Morgan 3 wheeler.
