      Presumably an easter egg reference to the starting screen from the original Elite, with a rotating Cobra model with "Load new commander? (Y/N)" displayed underneath. In this context I assume it just switches between the ships which can be displayed in that place.

    A lot of people seem to be complaining about the transition for entering the ship. While I would like something like that as well I can't overlook that we get a bunch of stations, outposts, and settlements to explore as well. Also everything thing else. I would rather get snippets and make sure there are no major bugs before throwing in more. There will be bugs (as ObsidianAnt has mentioned before) but they could be a lot worse if everything is dumped at once. One step at a time people.

      I have never played Star Citizen but when you say Elite Odyssey will "work" I feel like you're forgetting what previous Elite releases have been like. There have been many breaking bugs and game inbalance during beta and its normal to have some of that being around at release too.
      Odyssey is by far the biggest release of Elite in recent years. The 6 weeks Alpha (and quite possible following betas, normally two rounds) there will be plenty of bugs and maybe unfinished functionality. As the biggest release since at least Horizons with some 3 years of development behind it, we can expect a bug fest and I'm not talking about Thargoids. In the end Frontier normally sorts out the worst problems some period after release but I wouldn't say it will just work.

  • @YourLocalRaccoon
    @YourLocalRaccoon Před 3 lety +1

    I see people in the comments saying they don't want ship interiors, that frontier should put that effort into other things like atmospheric landings. I raise you this point: what if they made it so your ship auto jumped by itself to your destination (fuel permitting) and while it was doing that in real time you could freely explore your ship. You could customize your ships interior with fun stuff, mementos of places you've visited or big missions you've taken part in, maybe they could add rudimentary holo-games in the "living room" that you could play with other players(or ai) such as chess or checkers or backgammon etc. They could have members of the community make news report style videos to be played periodically within your shop via the televisions that would no doubt be somewhere in there. You could go to your cargo hold to inspect things, make sure the station didn't short you on something. You could have some kind of cleaning functionality for your landers or maintenance for your fighters. Someone mentioned eva which I think would be incredibly fun i.e. "oh no I seem to have forgotten my lander and I'm 30 jumps from the nearest station, oh well I guess I'll go on foot then." Being able to walk around in a station or on a planet is cool, but it would get more boring to me than being able to walk around my own ship and interacting with things inside it. Maybe they could unveil a new type of frame shift drive that takes you straight to your destination (again fuel permitting, being a fuel scoop) but with the downside that it would take several minutes to get through the jump as opposed to the several seconds of a current jump. They could of course balance it so both options would be equal, don't want to make one flat out better after all. Ship interiors has been the number 1 thing asked for since the games initial release. Nobody cared about walking around in stations or doing first person gun combat on the ground until they announced it.
    Also there are only 38 ships in the game. I saw someone mention "...that would be over 40 ship interiors" so I thought I'd correct that.

I don’t think anyone could argue that SC has deeper gameplay mechanics than ED in its current state, which is all you can argue because no one can say what SC will become. I say this as a large SC backer who stepped back for the very lack of gameplay loops you’ve mentioned in your comment. SC doesn’t even have a reputation system. They have a handful of planets, and moons that are no more immersive than anything you’d find in ED. Unless you’re a huge fan of caves? Idk. What it would actually take: Copy elevator (with 3 different elevator interriors) to ships, walking around ships cocpit and sitting down animation and thats it.
