    tip for people who have a really hard time with impulse buys: you get one impulse buy. And keep it under $5 or less.
    This should allow you a tiny bit of freedom while also saving some money on stuff you don’t need.

    If inflation were the real reason food prices soared, companies wouldn't have been posting record profits while they were doing it.

    • @hans7686
      @hans7686 Před 22 dny +5

      If high food prices are due to corporate greed then why have they increased so rapidly all of a sudden? Did corporations suddenly get more greedy? Corporations have always been greedy! They have always charged as much as they can get away with.
      If a grocery store had increased it's prices before the inflation increase then it would have lost customers to it's competitors. But now inflation has forced all grocery stores to increase prices simultaneously otherwise they would go out of business (rising wholesale prices on their end).
      Why are there records profits? In absolute terms they have record profits but the money isn't worth as much so in real terms they haven't. Compare a grocery store from today to one in 1900. The store in 1900 made no where near as much money either in income or profits as grocery stores do today. But in real terms they may not be making as much.

    You buying less doesn't mean there's no inflation, which is caused by misled macro economics.
    1- If you're using the items you impulse-bought, there's no issue. Plus the more you buy, the more you save on fuel.
    2- To eat, you have to buy in the first place.

      1. The impulse buying in question is buying something you don't need or want, like that bottle of orange juice when you don't even really like orange juice. You might drink a glass but the rest goes to waste.
      2. Buying with a list means you have a plan for the food you buy. If you go in the store and buy a ton of food there's a good chance some of it will go bad before you can eat it. This assumes you buy food that will go bad in a few days to a week like produce, dairy, and meat. If you're only buying ultra-processed junk food then I can see where you'd have the time to finish it before the food goes bad.
