When the same group sings a song several years apart, it can often be easier to pick up on their vocal development than just hearing a different song. Here they sing the same song live both times, but 6 years apart and with one member change. You can hear the difference in both their vocals, the arrangement and the performance.
VoicePlay is always evolving, always improving, always learning more. Always striving to be better, to try something new, to take risks few others would have dared to take.
They could have gone the safe route, down the route of mainstream, along with the majority of other artists who are more focused on making a dollar than making art. VoicePlay always have stayed true to their art, they have never given in to the temptation of smothering their creativity to get the mainstream sound that for some bizarre reason gets all the attention on the radio.
Never change, boys. Keep challenging yourselves, keep exploring your creativity, keep creating your wonderful works of art. ❤️

Memories... Good friendships bring success. It was like that then and it is like that now. They are always perfect. I love them.😊❤

Haven't really heard much of their music when Tony was still with them. J. None just brings a different kind of energy.

I wish Lane's contribution got more attention. He is so good with the "Instramentation"

I assume we will be getting a video/short soon to compare Geoff's rendition of Trust In Me, five years apart? 😁

Poor Paul... he suffered a lot for them. 😮😂❤

Some of it would for sure be an improvement in vocal ability and arrangement, but also the clarity of Geoff and Layne is such so much better in the 2018 version (I would say it's better sound mixing but that video was filmed live right? so idk, better microphones?). Like I can practically *feel* the difference between the two through my headphones

I love these comparison videos, but my favorite version of Friend Like Me they've done is on the Once Upon An Ever After album with Geoff taking the lead. He does great character voices. 🥰

I like the one with Tony better. After all, at one time he was a friend of Aladdin for Disney World.

I feel Tony often sounded naturally more tenor 2 and Eli was more the baritone then. But I’m sure they switched parts often 😊

    • @huldradraco
      @huldradraco  Před 4 měsíci +1

well, *technically* Eli is naturally more of a baritone or baritenor. you can tell by how low his speaking voice is and how low he can actually sing (almost as low as Geoff in chest!). he's just trained himself to go very high. Tony also is baritenor. But Eli sounds way more comfortable than him in the baritone range.
And yeah, all the guys switch roles constantly depending on the song and/or what's needed in the moment.
Need a bass? Geoff, Eli, J and Layne can.
Need a beatboxer? Geoff, Eli, J and Layne can.
Need a tenor? Geoff, Eli, J, Layne, Cesar, Earl and Tony can.
Need a high tenor? Geoff, Eli, J, Cesar, Earl and Tony can.
Need a baritone? Geoff, Eli, J, Layne, Cesar, Earl, and Tony can.
Especially on stage, when one person is on lead, one of the others might step in to cover their "role" in the harmony until someone else takes over lead again. They're a versatile group of artists!

@@huldradracoI appreciate how around the same time (2016/2017) HomeFree also replaced their departing Baritenor Chris with a lower Baritone Chance, much like J. None succeeded Tony. The full time baritone part sound is noticeable in a both groups, even Cesar being a BariTenor!
