You honestly think that Duncan didn't have a claim to that trophy also? FMVP much like all other individual awards have so many variables. It could have been voter fatigue for Duncan. A way to put an * by his legacy. Cuz most of those voters are mj nut lickers so they didn't want Timmy to be 4-0 w 4 FMVP. Cmon man that's not a good argument. As a lifelong mavs fan , Luka is damn near equal to peak Dirk in year 5 and has done what it took Dirk 10+ years to do and that’s go to the WCF. Dirk was WELL past 30 when he brought the only ring to the franchise. Luka is 24 and like I said, he’s been to the WCF. To say “he’s no Dirk” is completely disrespectful, AND DIRK IS MY FAVORITE PLAYER OF ALL TIME! Luka won Roy, Luka is 5/5 in allstar appearances, Luka has been 1st team every year except his rookie, Luka has broken almost every rookie mavs record and franchise record possible in the time span, and again, ITS YEAR 5. I love Tony but he trippin. So if Dirk never got that one, then it’d be ok to compare them? The only reason you can’t compare luka to Dirk is position and the fact the he’s a legend and HoF and the fact for how he single handedly revolutionized the game with his greatness. Outside that, Luka is way beyond Dirk at this age in almost every category. Tony is buggin he acting like luka ain’t knoccing on the door. All he need is the cast and just like Dirk, the mavs are failing him in that regard. This is the best team he’s had and there are still MAJOR holes. Some key pieces like a bacup defensive center, and a 3&d wing and the mavs are instant contenders with or without a healthy Kai.

I'm sick of the "he didn't win no chip yet."
Dirk was drafted in 1998 and won ONE ring in 2011. Sure, it's a great career, but for fuck's sake. His career isn't "Remember 2011?" He was a great player for a very very long time. This talk of title wins is actually ridiculous. I get using it as an accolade every now and then, but to say somebody at year 5 "ain't no Dirk" like what is even the point in saying that? You ain't no Chris Paul. You're Smush Parker on Tim Duncan's team by that logic. It's fucking stupid.
Appreciate players for something other than the team achievement.

Doesn't matter how many trophies or rings you have, it proves nothing on how good of a player you are. There's plenty of all time elite sportsman who are some of the best to ever do it that have never won a trophies.
Ridiculously naive opinion on this clip.

Karl Malone has been one of the best PF ever. He didn’t win a chip. Barkley is a legendary player. Never won a chip. Stockton is the only player to be all time leader in two stat categories. No chip. Elgin Baylor was the epitome of the SF during decades. No chip.
We can continue with more players. That kind of argumentation Parker uses is basically pointless. Dirk was Dirk before his ring.

Luka is my favorite player but you won’t understand how great Dirk is if you haven’t seen him play. That 2011 run was just different. The shot making, those clutch moments, the teams they were up against.
Luka is more talented but he’s not there yet. He’s only 24. He’s won individually and team wise in Euroleague and Eurobasket. He understands winning. He just needs to bring that to the NBA and then his case is closed as the GOAT of European players imo.

    • @WaRi-rd2we

Not even 2011. Sometimes it’s hard to debate or recognize things with seeing a stat sheet. Dirk’s team won 50 or more games for 11 years straight. Multiple different players and coaches. Most time with no All Stars or 1 other. How many players have done that?

Let’s be real here, we all know Luka is better than dirk. Like cmon watch the games dirk doesn’t provide anything close to what Luka does on offense. Luka a better scorer, and a MUCH better facilitator. 1 ring doesn’t change that. Luka has shown up in the playoffs, one of the better playoff performers we’ve seen. Luka even been a good defender this year. And not like dirk was some crazy good defender either.

Mavs don’t have a complete team to compete for a championship. It took a bunch of savvy veteran players (Kidd, Marion, JT, Butler, Chandler) and a great coach for Dirk to win a championship. Put a Tim Duncan type of post player on the current Mavs and some more 3&D (they lost some of this to trade for Kyrie) role players around Luka, and they are instantly in the conversation. The best players in history don’t always get a complete team.
To TP’s defense, TP was a hell of a player in his prime who played very efficiently in their system. Luka would eventually need to learn how to make better use of what he has around him and play with some more star players to see what it takes to win a championship. He is getting there. Great coach in Kidd and a co-star in Kyrie. Just missing a few pieces and the experience.
