- At around 20 minutes in, the video switches gears... and you get something scripted by me for once... and way more editing that normally done on this channel. When I started the LP, I hadn't intended to do this, but the more I learned about the stage 7 boss.. well, I couldn't have covered all that during live gameplay. So, if you're wondering how to screw up a giant robot vs giant robot fight, that's a good place to look! I looked way too hard into one fight.
Still, this is one of my favourite video games, in one of my favourite video game series. It was fun getting an excuse to draw Axel Gear again.

It was fun researching just how Axel Gear worked, and it was fun editing that video segment, and even scripting it.
It's very different to what I usually do, and let me know what you think. I have another scripted video in the works that's Sonic related, so any feedback here could be useful for that.
Provided the daytime fireworks give it a rest, I should get the next Sparkster video sooner rather than later.
There's something fun about scripted information sections, though maybe that's just my numbers nerdiness talking. I think you did very nicely with it! One detail that I think would have been useful is to know how much health the arms themselves had, since there's no indication of that ingame, either.
I blanked and forgot to credit Umber for her intro animation, and link to the TAS. Both have been added in the description.
I want to thank you for your research on the Axel Gear fight in this stage. It's probably one of the most unbelievably frustrating bosses in gaming history and for all the wrong reasons - in a game that I still cherish after all these years.
Yay, Ace vid~ Also I missed one; what is my problem?
That was an awful lot of detail and programming for a single gimmick fight. And they they just toss you in, little-to-no wind-up. Konami was probably just focusing more on vampires or mystical ninjas or something. :v
The scripted bit was very insightful and flowed quite well. As much as off the cuff live commentary is nice, as reactions to things at the moment is always fun(I do hope "Excuse me, blank, I was talking" becomes a running gag), I would enjoy these scripted insight video bits as well. Learning how my fave games tick is always a pleasure.
Hey, glad to know you are feeling a little bit better.
The scripted segment was interesting. I like that kind of analysis.
For once the curse of "I've never seen that happen" worked out in your favor! I... might not have ever seen that happen before. go figure.
I enjoy watching you play this and I am interested in it, but I still think the Rocket Knight Adventures has overall more memorable music. Some of my favorite of any game, at that. By the way, I am glad you are feeling better.
90s Konami could hardly resist putting shmup segments int heir games, huh? I'm sure someone there was annoyed that there wasn't room for one in a Castlevania game.
I never knew about this music-themed level; I mean I know it wasn't in the Genesis/Mega Drive version.
But I can only wonder if it's similar in any way to Planet Sonata/Neous from Ristar.
I agree McDonald's doesn't really count as food 🤣
Not gonna lie, i actually liked Sparkster way more than the 1st game both animation/difficulty wise, in fact i hate Rocket Knight Adventures (i'm part of the cool kids club that always go for hard mode) but it turn out it was a nuts mode that everything insta-kills you, so that also might've left a bad taste in my mouth but even still i barely beat it, the 2nd game was alot more manageble to me (even though that train boss just decided to wreck me the other day)
That being said, this is KONAMI we're talking about, the undisputed king of fuckups. You think there's going to be an interesting mechanic, but instead Konami takes you three checkpoints back with a boss battle. If you thought Pokemon Red and Green were held together by Glue and Duct Tape, you should see Konami's games.
How’s your throat, ACE?
Edit: NVM, he had a section in the video.
that rock'n'sockem robot boss is stupid i hate that boss so much
Yes, it really the worst part of the entire series.
