- It takes a lot of things to become an esports superstar.
Unmistakable qualities like natural talent, a restless dedication that borders on obsession and, of course, you can’t earn street cred without silverware.
But as much as we’ve invested our time into watching the stories of these gaming celebrities unfold . . . the truth is, we basically know nothing about them. Sure, we can watch them on stream and catch glimpses of their personal lives, but what if we do more?
Now for most of us fanboys, that thought is tragically just a pipedream. But, there is one guy who has been able to turn it into a reality.
I’m talking, of course, about Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp, the juiced-up but occasionally misunderstood League of Legends diehard whose stature in the scene is simply gigantic.
And yet, for a long time, Tyler1 wasn’t exactly the kind of guy you’d want associated with your esports scene. His name being mentioned in the same breath as any of the game’s biggest stars was a laughable thought.
But in the past couple of years this ear drum-destroying manlet has somehow developed an unlikely friendship with Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok. The quiet Korean God of League of Legends, whose awkward innocence is but a deceptive mask that conceals a merciless genius.

To me it will always be impressive how tyler1 didn't really change that much, it's just that everyone around became so toxic, he is considered somewhat chill for modern league standards

Tyler1 just being a bro around Faker is really healthy for Faker's mental health as well. I'm sure Faker is getting asked constantly about in game stuff. Tyler1 does know about esports but not that heavily but he wouldn't ask Faker about it cuz of that reason.

@@rami1329 Faker is fully documented on what he went through and restoring himself with a psychiatrist after his 2017 World Championship loss. You can clearly see the before and after of what Faker's general attitude is when Meeting Tyler1 and I'm sure Tyler isn't the main cause of how Faker's mental is restored but damn he's one that is publicly available to see the change. So jokes on you.

I actually respect Tyler1, especially from the T1 Champ Series. Dude was one of the only people giving non-pro NA players a stage to show themselves to teams.
It did way much more work in finding new talent than scouting grounds. That's something that even NA pro scene couldn't do in the past years.

The bond they have is honestly incredibly adorable, I couldn't stop smiling the entire time.
IDC if it's forced, they are perfect. Their personalities contrast so much, and both seem otherworldly alone, but are extremely human together.
That point about how Faker is portrayed differently for Western vs Eastern audiences really made me think about how even he is not immune to the stereotypes we place on Asian people but I'm glad he's allowed to not just be the stoic all powerful unkillable demon king blah blah. He can be a fun chill content creator too.

In regards to how Faker comes across as kind of a blank slate, he somewhat is. He dedicates himself so fully to League, that one of the only things they could say about him as a person was that he took time to water a houseplant he had at an apartment (at least earlier on in his career, around the peak in his results).

I can't agree more with Tyler 1. The amount of pressure the Faker endures is way more than any normal person can handle, and as we can all see Faker's plays didn't drop in quality at all in fact he only gets better. The issue is that the it's harder and harder to carry the game by 1 person because of riot's balancing and T1 keep replacing its roster and they cant find the perfect players.
I haven't watch the video, but I am sure that Faker's Zed outplay will be included.
