Cirkus Zirkus' are great instructors
I've never done stilt-walking myself, but I know of stilt walkers who use proportionally long walking sticks, effectively becoming tripods or quadpods. They're apparently super useful when standing still.
This is also how you make a Landstrider costume from The Dark Crystal
It def makes a difference. I diy'd some quad peg stilts for halloween and I had it down in 5 -10minutes. It's hella fun too 10/10 recommend

My great-grandpa actually died this way. Not the stilts, just tripping off the sidewalk. Dude was 90 years old in 1976, stepped off a curb obstructed by the snow (Northern Utah), and broke his hip. Died like a week later.
I mean the world is just looking to kill you and 90 is a long time to cheat death. My great grandpa died after church on his walk home on a bench because he felt tired or so the story goes. He was 97 so again not a bad run. Hopefully we can hope to live as long.
@@BoyDharma Here's hoping we can! I mean, not to be too dramatic, but I wasn't even supposed to live into my teen years. I'm 26 now. With all the stuff I've gone through, medically, in my life, I really feel like I could live forever.
I'm sorry to hear that. No joke, my grandfather passed away last year in a very similar incident. 90, decided he wanted to go for a walk without telling anyone. Tripped and fell on the sidewalk not even a block from the house. Ended up lingering in bed for a couple weeks and then went in his sleep.

In a way, my great-grandmother was lucky, because she died on the spot when she fell on the sidewalk.
How did I know Brian would be good at this. Jason did so well too. These people are so good. They are lovel and funny but also great teachers.

this two girls struck me as such gentle teachers. watching them explain everything and help brian and jason filled me with fuzzy wholesome feelings.

The "I'll never let you fall" was so genuine. The helpful nature is instinctive for the 3 of them it seems.

Stilt Man! I had a friend who played Heroclix who collected a bunch of Stilt Man figures. Because the figures came in multiple pieces to fit in the package, he was able to combine the stilt pieces together to form a single super-tall Stilt Man.
The frequency of the words "peg" and "straps" made me go get headphones so I didn't have to explain what I was watching.
The pure joy on all their faces as Brian starts walking unassisted!
They look like proud parents when their kid first rides a bike without training wheels or being held on to. But like without the previous trials with training wheels, lol

The Cirkus Zirkus crew is awesome. The way of teaching is really good. The way the one said "I'll never let you fall" was so genuine. Hope to see them in future episodes.
I've walked on homemade peg stilts where the poles go all the way up to your shoulders for you to hold onto, which gives you complete control.
They were very easy to learn, but they were only (maybe?) 1 foot higher than the ground.
It was so long ago, I barely remember, but I know if I fell forward, I could just land on my feet and be fine.
My elementary school had these types for gym class, they were awesome!
we did the same in cub scouts.
DM: "You walk out to a clearing in the woods, and you see a gazebo"
Paladin: "I attack it with a war cry in the name of my god!"
DM: "It's a gazebo..."

I love how at 15:35, Jason has his hands up ready to catch Bryan despite being way too far away to actually be able to catch him.
My cousin had a set of these for painting, and I asked to try them. It is astonishing how intuitive using them is as long as you have even a minor sense of balance.

4:41 Do *not* fall forward with your arms extended. You will break a wrist or dislocate a shoulder. Take it from somebody who's been there. Fell off my bed when I was 8 and landed arms out, broke my wrist. Started taking martial arts lessons about a year after I healed up, quickly was taught how to properly break a fall, and only then did I realize why I had broken my wrist a year before.
As a construction worker I borrowed one quick from a sheetrocker to try. Took one step and decided that wasn't for me lol.

A friend of mine tried to be the first one to climb Swedens highest mountain on stilts. It didn’t end well.

Yes! I’m so glad you guys are learning stilt walking! It’s so fun! I learned to stiltwalk last summer for a parade / Mardi Gras event at a large theme park, one of the coolest things I’ve ever learned to do.
Ok, now I need a Corey approved design for homemade peg stilts.

In grade school we had a circus come to our school to teach us 5th graders different performances. I was naturally adept at the stilt walking for whatever reason. It was a really neat experience

as someone who built stilts out of medical boots and crutches they were amazing they were for a quadrupedal stilt costume the front legs were crouches i extended with aluminum tubing after a while i got comfortable enough to walk with just two stilts this was a mistake they broke after about half an hour of walking on them didn't help that i was putting around 150 pounds on a single crutch at some points the crutches weren't happy with that was an amazing Halloween that year.
I have a pair of those shorter, bendy jumping stilts and they're the best thing I've ever bought on impulse. Great job on the video!!!!!
I learned this a lot of years ago. It was the one´s with one peg under it. It was very easy to learn. Took less than 5 minutes. Didn't get any talk about body position or anything like that. It was just walking, holding onto someone, like here, and then let go when you felt ready for it.
I managed to jump with them. It was probably a whole inch high!
The scariest is when you fall forward because you can't protect your knees as your legs are strapped to the stilts.

This is the first time I've fallen in love watching a Modern Rogue episode.
I used to use the long peg stilts where you tuck them up under your arms and hold them in place with your hands. Those took a very long time to get good at. These things would be sooo much better and my 10 year old self would have been super jealous haha.

I performed a musical in painter's stilts, called Big Fish. Having to do Choreography in stilts was shockingly easy and fun once i was walking in the stilts easy. Kinda wanna get stilts again and practice more!

I've done a bit of short stilt walking once (maybe only 1-2 ft up) and they were just 2x2s with a triangle wedge. (So had to hold on with hands while walking)
i used to wear these a lot at festivals. worst injury i saw was a torn groin after a lady fell into the splits.

I was taught to walk on stilts by Universal Studios Optimus Prime in order to be a stilt walker in a haunted house for Halloween. After a week I was running at the customers to scare them, but one day as I was coming to a stop I stepped on a few leaves and lost traction and slipped and tore my ACL.

Does anyone else think Brian and Jason resemble the AT-STs, near the end of Return of the Jedi, as they were about to tip over?
Not so much a critique, but just something that was on my mind while watching, it would have been a cherry on top if there was some kind of padding on the ground so they could demonstrate what to do when falling.
...this is the _Modern Rogue_ there would never be an injury to begin with. Their records are spotles. It would be pointless to teach how to fall... Also considering that she only fell once before I wouldn't say it is really something that can be teached. Falling and knowing how to land is one thing. Willingly falling to show how it's done is something else.

I've walked stilts for a year or so. The ones they are using are pretty intuitive.
