      @Rick Ross There is no major distortion in Slayer music. Compare Slayer with Old Metallica , Annihilator and Sepultura. Slayer's tune is not thrash sound. Slayer is aggressive Speed Metal faster than Over Kill and Megadeth . These bands are not Thrash Metal. What made these bands great in the 80s is their non mainstream legacy and aggressive lyrics. Of The BIG FOUR only Metallica was pure thrash. Metallica defined the thrash metal sound in Master of Puppet and took it to the mainstream with and Justice for All. Sepultura combined the Thrash distortion with guttural vocals.

      Ryan Johnson let me tell you, I’ve been a SLAYER FAN for 35 fucking years and not once have I ever thought or saw them promote racism or hatred towards another race or human. They used imagery to talk about Angel of death by talking about what Joseph mengela committed towards the Jews and others alike. Did they use pictures of German helmets with swastikas on them? Yes! Was it authentic and real? Yes, it depicted Nazi Germany. Was it how they truly felt? Hell No!!! Jeff was a history buff when it came to his fathers war and that in no shape or form classified him or Slayer as Nazi sympathizers in the least. They did the history research and brought it to life in a song. Let’s keep Jeff’s name clean and honor him by not calling him or Slayer, racist bc they aren’t.

    Love that you're reacting to Slayer. Slayer have never posed with swastikas! Or worn them or promoted them or anything of that nature. Two of the original founding members are from Chile and Cuba and are Hispanic. They sing about all the dark subjects. Hanneman's father fought against the Nazis. To speak of a crime is not the same as endorsing it! Slayer is like a horror movie. Lots of dark imagery and so forth. But not to be taken seriously. The lead singer Tom Araya is a Christian. Even though they sing about all kind of satanic subjects. Doesn't mean they're promoting it. Maybe they're warning against the dangers of evil. More Slayer by the way thank you

    • @Grobut81
      @Grobut81 Před 4 lety +8

      Indeed. Slayer have two songs involving the nazies, Angel of Death and Behind the crooked cross.
      Angel of Death is a viceral and graphic condemnation of Dr. Mengele, not just describing some of the horrors he comitted, but pulling no punches in describing him as a sadistic serial killer who found a station in life that would allow him to be a sicko ("Rancid angel of death, flying free", these are not kind words to describe someone with). Real Neo-nazies of course are Holocaust deniers, they want to belive it never happened, and would never write a song like this.
      Behind the crooked cross describes a German soldier who was swept up in the Nazi ideology before the war, only to discover too late durring the war that he is fighting for the bad guys. It's a song about the horror of being trapped in a war machine that he nolonger belives in, that he feels is tarnishing his very soul, but he is still just one man, he can't stop this war machine. In the end he vows to do only the bare minimum ordered of him and nothing more, because this is his only means of resistance, and prays that he can live with the shame of what he has done. No Nazi would write a song like that, not in a million years.

      I say headbang how you want and he can head banging how he wants and I'm going to do it my way too! One of the things I've received from Rock and especially I won't tell you what to do don't tell me what to do I won't listen anyway sometimes even if it best for me.. let's just get together with our people start with a big circle all the sudden what the mood is right we slam each other around but pick each other up when we hit the ground! Can't wait to see you all my brothers and sisters next week in Vegas for sadly my last Slayer show. It's crazy my first was 1987 I was about 15 my parents threw away I don't know how many Slayer albums tape CDs and my dad started out cool I was seven when I got Quiet Rot,twisted .... They just didn't understand what the big four what is really about but it's what made me so much more well-adjusted then all these other so-called good kids I've adopted special-needs and do more for others than I do for myself. But I'm the black sheep of the black sheep on both sides my family. And I'm still wearing those evil satanic racist t-shirts where's my goody-goody cousins prison rehab and living with their parents yes I rub it into my aunts & uncle's all the time! They tried to take Me in and raise me right my parents did a better job but this point needs the strict+military+ religious guidance but haha you should see how their kids turned out

    Slayer has two guitarists, which are both lead guitarists. And they switch back and forth between lead and rhythm. One will so low, and the other will play the rhythm part. Then they will trade back and forth like they did in this song which was actually them trading back and forth like four times. One guy is always on the left speaker the other guys always on the right speaker

I guess because of their image or the fact that they refused to shy away from any taboo subject. I was hooked in 1984 (a little late in finding them) but got it immediately, and you do too! That's so awesome. You should check out the song that comes after that long ending South of Heaven leads into. Brutal but honest like always with Slayer.
