  • Hello Buddies,
We tried covering the entire subject as much as we know and as much as we could.
The most obvious thing we didn't speak about - of course, when you see your budgie plucking its feathers, stop it from doing it right away! Even if it costs holding your budgie against its will.
We are not experts and don't claim to be, please visit a vet when you suspect that your bird is suffering from feather plucking.
In case your budgie is plucking its feathers aggressively, the vet will provide a collar for birds to prevent them being able to pick their feathers, but in case the vet didn't provide a collar, you can create one yourself using the bottom of a bottle, just melt the sides of the bottle so your bird doesn't get hurt from the sharp edges.
    Thank you for watching!

What the videos showing is not budgie plucking. Budgie preens and makes his/her feathers tidy daily. If a budgie is really plucking feathers, you will see bald spot. I take my budgie to the vet for a yearly check up. He does the same and he is a single bird. My vet said that he’s a really healthy budgie. The key is not to get a budgie and dumps him in the cage. I spend at least 4 hours a day (not continuously) to bond with him. He has no issue. Just a happy bird. As long as you spend lots of time with him, even a single budgie, sure he is alone but he is not lonely. There’s a difference.

I’m so mad I want a bird so I’m doing a lots of research I just went into a store and the people that own the store had there birds where everyone could see and little kids were bothering the birds the one bird that was 8 years old had 80% of there feathers gone and he was shaking I talked to a worker about this and they said “no he’s fine he’s just cold” that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard and the skin that you could see was red and so bad I ask if they have ever taken the bird to the vet and they said “no they don’t need to go to the vet there fine” I was so mad I left the store! But I was wondering what should I do so I looked up a tone of stuff about birds and made a presentation about ever thing wrong with the birds I called a bird rescue and ask if they could come and see what was going so they came I should the workers my presentation and then we called animal control and got the birds to the bird rescue

    Hi Pet Parrot Lovers,
Our male Eclectus (Mambo) has been living with us for 20 years now (Australia).
We hope this feedback "Comment" helps other pet parrot owners, as this is why and how we have had no difficulty with Mambo 🦜plucking his feathers:
    1) Early in Mambo being our young, hand-raised, tame pet parrot family member we noticed that Mambo would intentionally bath itself when given its morning fresh clean drinking water 💦 (fresh water also given late afternoon before his tea), but he would choose to bathe himself only once weekly, and would also get our attention too!
    2) We early read that the Eclectus parrots' original natural habitat is the Tropical Rain Forests of North Queensland and the Tropical Highland Rainforests of PNG (Papua New Guinea), & some of the tropical Pacific Islands. That’s when we thought that they would live with showers of rain 🌧 in their original tropical rainforest habitat, and we put this together with Eclectus’s also being a very high DANDER bird that Mambo would probably enjoy, at his chosen time to bath, with us also giving him a gentle shower spray with an indoor pot plants water 💦 spray bottle, set to the widest lightest water spray setting.
Well yes indeed! Mambo LOVES his weekly bath 🛁 plus light water-spray shower all over and under his body -- he even spreads his wings wide so we can spray under both his wings and both sides of his chest. Mambo lets us know when he's had enough of the water spray by. heading to his roosting-nightly high sleeping perch. Mambo prefers this weekly wash in the morning, and he happily chats away after his bath and water spray.
So pet parrot lovers, our take on why Eclectus parrots 🦜 (& some other parrots too!) have a reputation for being feather-pluckers is NOT necessarily a nervousness condition, nor consequent to a health issue or boredom either, but rather with their high dander skin-replacing body, the build-up of dander becomes irritating to them. Thus the scratching and pecking at their irritated skin (with feathers coming out while trying to relieve themselves of the dander skin irritation) is why parrots understandably scratch & peck their skin.
I would be scratching my skin too if I didn't shower regularly, and I don't even have a high-dander skin!🤗 And yes, the stress-factor to the parrot with the DANDER irritation can understandably impact their general health and wellbeing, and happiness!
This DANDER skin irritation probably adds to bad behaviour, like screeching, etcetera.
We have 3 pet parrots, and they have never had the problem of plucking feathers.
They all live indoors in our home with us to keep them safe from outside predators (snakes, rats, and predatory birds - e.g. Butcher Birds, Magpies). I have had pet birds most of my 70 year life - and approximately 100 racing pigeons as a young teenager and belonged in the latter 1960’s to the Brisbane QLD Racing Pigeon Federation (the best I got was a 3rd place 🥉 in a long distance pigeon race back to their loved home lofts -- birds love an easy resort-lifestyle and security).
Enjoy wonderful pet birds, as they love human company too!
    Cheers, Garzo 🎶🦜

      Hello,
      We're sorry for replaying late.
Are you letting your budgie outside of the cage everyday? Do you let her hang around the room, fly around the room and explore it?
We give our budgies the entire day outside of their cage, they know how and when to return by themselves when the sun goes down.
We leave the cage door open for them so they could go back for food and water when they feel like it, we let them perch on a chandelier or some other high and safe place where they are comfortable, we cover the bottom area with newspaper so their droppings won't make a mess, this is how they enjoy themselves and have fun.
So, if you have the option, shut the window and doors, open her cage and let her out everyday, if she doesn't want to go back inside the cage at night, just turn off the light and capture her very gently and softly (they are nearly blind when its dark. Never try to capture her aggressively or run after her, she will lose trust in you) and place her back in the cage on her favorite perch.
Always play cartoons for her, such as Spongebob or anything from that kind, they like all of the sounds and colors, it keeps them distracted.
We hope that you will find our suggestions useful.
Watch our other videos for more suggestions and ideas.
And don't forget to stimulate their tastes with new and adventurous fruits and vegetables that are safe for budgies.
Thank you and good luck :)

I have male and female parakeets I’ve had them for about 3 1/2 to 4 months now. The entire time I have had them I have seen them repeatedly each daily plucking their feathers and using their beaks to groom each other on their head. They also use their feet to spread the feathers on their wings. I never thought much of it until the last month or so when I noticed that they were no longer pulling out tiny feathers but also their tail feathers. They’re eating good and chirp all day long so I think they’re Happy enough. In the beginning the female laid two eggs however I didn’t have a breeding cage/box so needless to say when they hit the bottom of the cage the shells broke in half. I haven’t seen any eggs since. I’m starting to get worried even though they’re eating and such I wonder if they have mites or lice or both?? I really don’t know what to do I don’t wanna see them get sick yet I don’t know if they already are?? Please help me!

Pay close attention, she might have bald areas if she is actually plucking herself.
If not, it could also be molting.
You can try and research online and differ the symptoms.

      @Bird-Nuggets  Před 5 lety +2

      Hey there!
Your budgie has feathers all over but just none under his wings?
Budgies usually don't have much feathers under their wings, and it's not that there aren't many, but it's just messy since it's more difficult for them to preen it, and that makes bold spots visible.
Also, did you actually notice your budgie plucking his feathers?
As long as he is kept entertained, I don't see a reason for this to happen, UNLESS he has some kind of physical illness that causes that to happen.

Hello, you should pay attention to see if he actually is plucking his feathers.
The feathers you found sounds like just regular molting.
You can try giving him herbs that are allowed for budgies, maybe he will like it.
If you're not around him, you can play the TV for him, or budgie sounds on CZcams.
You can buy him budgie treats so he can discover new things.

Hello, it sounds like he is not plucking but preening.
Three feathers would be accidental, you would have most likely noticed more if he was plucking.
When they pluck, you will also be able to see that it's a bit more aggressive as he is pulling or breaking his feathers, unlike preening that he is more gentle and you can figure that he is only taking care of himself.

Some bird species around the world can not survive in the wild as they are brought to specific countries as pets only, and do not actually exist as flocks in nature.
A budgie in my country will die within a few days in the wild.
Generally, our budgies only eat, drink and sleep in their cage.
They are outside of their cage on a daily basis for the entire day, and that's how it should be.

      Hello,
You have to separate them in that case.
Two different cages, one for each and place them near each other with lots of toys and new simulations on a daily and even hourly basis.
Such as fruits, vegetables and food in general that are allowed of course.
Obviously let them play together when they are outside and watch them carefully.
If they pluck each other don't yell or do anything that might harm their trust in you.
Your budgie needs to forget that routine and that will only happen within a few weeks or even months and only if he has enough distractions/simulations.
Once he forgets, return them to the same cage and always keep an eye open.
Please make sure you subscribe, we have plenty more helpful videos for you :)

I feed him millets, seeds, fruits and vegetable mix for parrots and apple, I spray him every week just in case if he has mites and clean his cage every 2 days I started to put paper at the bottom of his cage instead of pieces of wood because maybe its the wood that gives him mites and bacteria and its also hard to clean the cage properly because of it so I decided to remove it.
