    Love your hikes, since I can’t hike anymore due to a knee replacement. Lost my husband who was my hiking partner. Really miss hiking.

    One of my favorite hikes in Southern California! Camping at Dobbs really feels like you're in the Sierra Nevada - it's crazy how we have wilderness like this right at the edge of such a massive, crowded metropolitan area. Your video makes me want to do this hike again, as it's been a few years now.

      Yea 100% I feel like I'm in the Sierras on this hike too - always amazing considering it's not too far from the road. Great for a quick overnight too.

    Hiked that trail back in the 80s with my younger brother. Had to walk through a flower area with more Bumble bees then flowers. It was pretty scary. The cabin area was very pretty and worth the climb. :)

    Thanks Cris for doing this video - made it easier to start this awesome hike in the early (dark) morning when usually GPS is your only friend. This hike is like being in the Sierra on the John Muir Trail. Views of the San Gorgonio area along with the shaded forest and creek water falls are tops. Trail was in great shape, bugs were fierce at lower elevation.

      Great to hear that it was helpful. Yea, I love this trail, especially once you enter the wilderness. And yea, the bugs... ugh... they seem to be particularly bad in SoCal this summer. I'm seeing bugs in places that I never did before. Looking forward to the cooler temps

    Great timing! I'm headed here really soon for an overnighter and was stoked to discover your video and guide today. This helped answer some questions for me. Can't wait to get up there and thanks for all of the great guides!

      You're welcome and have fun - it's one of my favorite spots to camp. It definitely feels a world away from SoCal.

    Great looking trail! I'd love to visit Cali someday just to hike it and bike it...and of course, hit as many mom-and-pop dining places as I can. You should mention those places in the videos as well! Great video!

    I hiked up to the Alger Creek Campground three weeks ago but didn't have the time to try for Dobb's Cabin. Thanks.....now I know what the cabin looks like! I did notice remnants of something man made next to the trail just up the ziz zag above Alger Creek on the way back. There wasn't much there; just some pieces of tin sheeting and maybe scraps of old wood.
    Someone mentioned bumble bees. A year ago I did the same hike with a buddy and we were both stung several times by the residents of what struck me as a semi-hybridized killer bee hive right next to the trail. Their hive was in a fallen dead tree, and we were probably not the only ones to be ambushed that year.
    This year the fallen tree either slid down the hill, or was removed, as I couldn't find it. I think it was just beyond the vertical rock part you pointed out at 4:45, and not far beyond that was a rocky hillside covered with small boulders. I remember on the way back from Alger, my buddy, who was in the lead, walked right by the hive not remembering where it was. The bees didn't bother him, but I, being a hundred feet or so behind did see the bees were once again very agitated so I ended up climbing around them by making my way up across that patch of boulders before making my way back down to continue down the trail.
    I did see plenty of smallish black and yellow bumble bees among the wild flowers, but they were totally docile!

      Oy yea, I did the hike a few times in the last couple of weeks and didn't encounter any aggressive bees, but I did see a bear once (who bolted away). And thanks for the tip on the debris, will check it out the next time I'm by Alger. I want to explore down the old Falls Creek Trail at some point as well.

      @@Hikingguy " old Falls Creek Trail", haven't heard of that one but am guessing it might follow the canyon down from Dobbs Cabin to Big Falls.
      Have yet to see a bear anywhere on San Gorgonio, other than down in the San Gorgonio Pass, but have seen scat multiple times! I did cross paths with 3 large bighorn rams up near the end of Mill Creek Canyon last year, and deer here and there.
      Next time at Alger campground look for the fish. I wonder how trout found their way up there unless planted.

    Awesome video! My hiking partner and I have backpacked to Dobbs twice this month! Once in the rain a few weeks back and this past weekend. By any chance were you on trail this past Saturday (9/3) with a Hyperlight pack? I might have saw you fly by us :)

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  Před rokem

      Ha yes that might have been me, I'm testing out a Hyperlite pack! Glad you got to do Dobbs a few times. I could spend a few days there doing nothing, it's such a peaceful spot.

    Do you have or plan to have a guide for the part of the Momyer trail that continues to SB Peak?

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  Před rokem +1

      Yea, on the list, last time I did it the trail was a bit overgrown. I like the loop up to San B and back down via Anderson

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  Před rokem

      Yea the heat is crazy. I've been leaving at dawn when I film and pre-dawn when I don't. CNF is probably off the charts. I see thunderheads popping up over Saddleback almost every day lately.

    Do you carry bear/cougar spray with you.?
    I bet you have a backcountry guide business...or should have one.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  Před rokem

      👍 In SoCal I don't carry spray but when I go to places like Glacier with Grizzlies I will. Otherwise most bears will run away before I even know what's going on. And yes, I used to have a guide business but I had to shut down during COVID. Now I focus on the web where I can reach more folks.
