One cost of the coaster coming into Canada that gets overlooked is duty and import fees every trailer load is charged duty and other fees, now add shipping of parts from Europe along with Canada import fees. Some large cranes can cost up to $3.000.00 US a week even if not used but on site.
Great information! I totally over looked the imports/ export fees. I'll look into speaking with a university professor to get an estimate.

So the rule of thumb that theme parks use to estimate total construction cost is double the ride cost equals the total price. (Just a rough total) So Yukon striker was 30 million which means that the coaster itself was around 15 million. These are all rough figures tho.
Also parks only realise their total spend of the ride, as the coatings for the coaster itself is confidential.
The coaster itself cost 30 million but the park doesn't typically include the actual construction budget into the public equation.
michaeł Zell complete opposite: the total cost is what is advertised, the cost of the individual ride is negotiated as confidential and private and none disclosure agreements get signed. Parks always announce how much the total project cost is.
Find out wood vs metal coasters if you can, or do a separate video for wooden coasters
Wood vs steel is quite a difference in how cost gets distributed, but overall wood will be cheaper for a coaster of similar size.
Steel involves a factory prefabricating the entire support structure and the track. Wood requires custom fabrication of that on site.
@@Danrarbc Going on this point, wood could be more time consuming, but it also takes lesser specialized workers and equipment to build a wooden coaster as well as easier access to materials.
It's so cool to see a video go so in-depth about a lot of the behind-the-scenes costs of the coaster designing and building process. I'm actually trying to decide if I want to go into hospitality management with an emphasis on theme park management as my next degree, and it's not terribly common to find content that covers the ins and outs of this subject matter beyond what we as the consumers experience. Thank you so much for making this video, and I can't wait for your upcoming mega video on this subject!

I work construction. Always find it intriguing, to see the "behind the scenes" of the rides construction process, IE Plumbing, Electrical (running conduit, wiring, lighting), Pneumatic lines, ect. great video!

Maintenance cost would be interesting too. After the ride is built someone has to look after it. Another aspect to look at too is what it cost to operate the coaster on a day to day basis including electricity and staff.
I know that I am just throwing numbers out there and this is NOT the actual cost, but just as an example. Fury 325 from B&M may only cost $10 million, but good luck getting it delivered, assembled, wired, powered, tested, station built, land excavated, etc.
I think this is why B&M wanted a manufacturing plant in North America to build the track and support for all North America coasters.
If they build everything in Switzerland 🇨🇭, I’m sure getting it shipped over was pricy. They still build all the trains over in Switzerland for all coasters, I’m sure that alone is pricy. I would love to see a bill broke down with all fees from B&M
B&M has always hired one plant in Ohio for every single rollercoaster even the ones that go to Europe and China

Also when they make the steel parts steel is not just steel there are all sorts of grades of steel along with metallurgy for wear and strength along with flexibility..

MACK Rides is actually a German coaster manufacturer :) Intamin and B&M are Swiss coaster manufacturers :) No worries about that mistake
Peter is definitely qualified to lead these projects. I’d wager a guess that he handles them rather than outsourcing.

There's no way. That's CW or Cedar Fair would do time and material. That would be insane. This should be all quoted jobs for all trades. CW would send a bid of tender. Getting quotes all trades the cheapest but qualified usually wins the job. There's so many variables that can drive up the cost of a job. Unforeseen problems on blueprints or additions They want to put in. after this can all add up construction costs with extras. An example if a crane just sits on a job sitting still because steel isn't an on-site. Someone's getting a back charge for that. Crane. Just sitting there That's why the yellow crane left for weeks

Indeed price is way off. That's non-union. Add 35% Workers Wage and since when does an electrician make more than a plumber especially in the Union? LOL

Wage on every website It fluctuates what is in demand or what and their best interests is So many that are to blame. For not giving actual facts how long the progression takes. When you're actually making good money.
But these are construction costs and construction costs usually are factored into the budget. So that 30million includes construction costs unless that’s what you were referring to because people think no way these coasters cost so much

That's why I thought! You'd assume they'd want to make the price they share with the public as high as possible to make the investment seem that much more impressive.
Yeah I don’t get this video since he is acting as if all of these factors he’s talking about isn’t working towards the roller coaster. It is. Therefore it is under a roller coaster price tag. Don’t know why anyone would have two separate price tags for one project?

Love the new intro but I have one note. When video goes into the eye of the camera and shows the name, have kind of a moving background behind the logo. An example is in the axis video and they show the s and s logo. Just an idea to be nit picky. But I really enjoyed it and gives a great grabber.

Guys, remember to give thanks to all the fast pass riders that cut the line in front of you, because they basically bought the new coasters. Cedar Fair is obviously building more great rides in the parks that seem to target this revenue. Kings island got 4 new coasters in the last 11 years, maybe another one to replace vortex soon. Small parks got forgotten. The cost to move a coaster to another park is said to be half of a new one so the onsite costs seen about right, plus the park may do a lot of work to the new ride area like paint the buildings, paint nearby rides, new walkways and landscaping.
The steel isn't "melted" down. Clermont fabricators LTD create the track just like you would create a w shape beam, they cut raw sheets of steel with plasma cutters and weld the cut pieces together. Literally like Lego. The raw steel sheets come from a foundry, a fabrication plant or are bought on large spools called " " cold rolled mild steel"

Remember a lot of these skilled trades have union workes. Might look like 45 dollars an hour. But with pension and benefits might be closer to 90 dollars an hour for the actual company

You could also double most of your labor costs you showed an iron Worker wouldn’t do anything near what they do for $30/hr imagine more like $75/ hr guaranteed 8, With say 10 -12 man crews, if you want it done fast 1.5 and double time add up fast, 2-4 crane opps bc you have to have back ups at easily $100/hr the crane rentals you saw were for little baby cranes that couldn’t lift steel past 75 ft and would have to be directly under it so for a tower crane you would actually need 2 1 to buil it and the actual crane there are a ton of other things like multiple man lifts that are easily 1000’s a day weather you use it or not and guys who make coffee in the work trailer every day kidding but not kidding

When a park announces a coaster and lists the estimated price tag they're usually referencing the cost of the ride itself from the manufacturer rather than the additional cost of site prep and physical construction work.
