Nothing says I’m Christian like a rhinestone plaid shirt. 🤣
In various areas of the country - we have Rodeo Queens here. They prefer plaid and to be as flashy as possible. You can put it wherever or on whatever you like, however. It's the method we're highlighting here. Many crafters have never seen how easy making stone decals or shirts can be. Or wrapping tumblers like we do. And they bring quite a lot more price wise than regular vinyl. We love to teach various aspects of running a successful business.

What was the first process you did before the actual cross template
We downloaded one of our many cross designs from site, and sent it to our cutter which made the holes in the flock for us :-)

Yes the 1st layer are smaller stones, looks like they use them to form the points at the tips of the cross etc - though I wonder why the 1st template looks so “randomly” placed, not even 1side to the other. Not sure what that accomplishes

Thank you for the memories my mother spending hours with my daughter doing something called bedazzled or bejeweled possibly interchangeable for a rhinestones pastime - that all of the sudden was in every corner of my house and wardrobe 😊

Back in the 80s/90s it was a popular craft to "Bedazzle!" I loved it. 😂
It's come a long way since then, I remember this as well! LOL! I only wish back then we had the quality of stones that are available now. These are insanely popular, we have near constant orders for cheer attire, cheer bows, rodeo queens, gymnasts, ice skaters, pageant girls, band or bridal sashes and so much more. If only we knew how to develop the skill back when it was bedazzling, crafters would be retired somewhere by now haha!

As a screen printer, I frequently utilize a heat seal machine for transferring designs onto t-shirts without using ink. This technique can be quite fascinating. It is advisable to allow the transfers to cool down after pressing them or even consider applying a second press to ensure that they are securely fused to the shirt, preventing any potential peeling issues for the customer.
Here's a useful tip: acquiring a Teflon sheet can offer two advantages. Firstly, it prevents scorching of the clothes. Secondly, it prevents the formation of dark spots on colored clothing caused by the heat application.
To use it, simply place the shirt and then overlay the Teflon sheet upon it before pressing. Rest assured, the Teflon sheet will not get burnt.
Furthermore, when removing the film from the design, it is recommended to do so slowly. In the video, some portions peeled off, and that may have been due to insufficient time spent under the press.

We did use a protective cover sheet, or as you had described, "teflon". These hotfix rhinestones have a heat-activated disc on the back, which liquifies when pressed at the proper temperature and time and adheres the rhinestones to the blank shirt. When properly pressed, a hotfix rhinestone will outlast the blank shirt it's applied to. Let us know if you have any questions. -TRW Pilar

@@TheRhinestoneWorld I appreciate that. I've been seeing people with rhinestone designs that are really close together. Do you have a video on how to create, brush, and press those designs?
Unfortunately with making templates, you need that .2 distance between stones or your flock will tear or weed itself out. Example, without some spaces, if you made an A, then the entire triangle would weed out and you'd have a large space there vs. the line of the A. People that place them right next to each other either hand place, or they'll use a Cams Machine. Very big and expensive. We can make items like this, you can look on our Estimate page on site. It's fastest to type it into the search window on site :-)

That's what I was wondering!
Good question! This is because there are two different sizes of stones. The first template are for the ss6. Then she fills in the ss10 in the other template. She keeps things lined up since the stones need their own places. So why two templates? The holes are sized for the stones, they need to be separated or you'll be picking out ss6 from the wrong areas with tweezers so the ss10's can fall into their assigned places.
The same method applies for if you use various colors in a design. To keep things fast, neat and easy, each color gets their own template as well so only the color you want will land where you please in a design.

Isn't it crazy how most things we learn today is made so different to how we thought they were made wow 😮.
There are other ways to make rhinestone shirts, but this is the easiest way to make them at home or for a small business. There are also huge CAMS machines that place the rhinestones on the hotfix tape and the process is automated. Making shirts the way we did in this video costs you much less and these can be done with any vinyl cutter. We go Live every Monday Night at 8pm EST here on our CZcams channel to teach different things that can be made with a vinyl cutter and heat press. Yes. Some people have a large canvas where there's color codes to follow with the gems it comes with. You place them where they go, and at the end you have a large image. I love how there's no wrong way to make art!

Good eye! We did this one on plaid for a Rodeo Queen. This way they get to keep that country look and feel all the while the sparkle catches judges eyes. It's less about the design on this one rather than the attention it catches :-)

Great question! The sizing is to just fit the stones, but the flipping magic happens due to how our Magic Flock is made. It does it for us by knocking out stones that are upside down and moving in and holding the ones that are right side up. Here's a zoomed in video explaining:

Lol!! We have quite a few tricks up our sleeves. We love sharing tips and tricks for them all on our channel as well. The best part of our designs, is you notice the squares of the flock obviously. We make our template downloads so that they're the exact same size. It helps line everything up super easily. So if you decide to download one of ours, don't change those boxes. Think of stacking a loaf of bread. Another thing we enjoy doing, so you don't have the hotfix adhesive tape kind of hovering over by hand trying to line up, is doing it like this:
Lay the flock. Brush in the first stones.
Drop the acrylic tape in a U shape down on them with no hesitation and after you've discharged yourself of static.
Make sure the tape is large enough so that it hangs over the end on one side of the flock and secure that to your table.
Peel it up on a hinge, secure gently out of the way, we like to roll the other edge so it's face down on the table. Kind of like when you run out of lint roller tape and you just loop masking tape around your hand. Like that, but just affix it to the table and not itself.
Now layer the next flock right on top of the first lining up the box edges of the flock. Brush in.
Now grab and unstick that tape but leave that original hinge you've made by the flock. Lay it over the top like you're finishing off the top dough on an apple pie.
Tada! Everything lines up easily. It's easier to see it done than have it explained, but I'll be happy to link a video visual for you if you like!
Basically you lay, lift, lay, lift and you're done. You can also start out with a more beginner friendly design as well of course just to get your feet wet!

You got it! SS10 and SS06. We have to do them like this so the smaller stones don't fall into the larger stone holes and jam things up. :-)

Yes you give it a glance over to be sure there's not a stone hiding between others, or flipped upside down.
The Magic Flock flips them for us but it's always good to do a quick quality control check before lifting them out :-)

This is one of our more advanced designs, but we have thousands of other videos to show the process as well. The first template on this one, was for a smaller stone. The second was for a larger stone (keeps the small ones from falling into the wrong holes). We brush them in, our Magic Flock flips the stones the right way up, then we lift out with our tape. We have thousands of fonts and designs on site, and we're here for questions! :-)

Ah, I knew mass produced gem decorated clothes couldn’t have be done by hand at such a scale, but now we are all a little wiser.
What's even better? For big businesses like ours, we have a Cams Machine. This places them one by one at lightning speed onto our acrylic hotfix heat tape for us. Much faster process for bulk orders, plus it's just so fun to watch!! :-)

Sounds cute! Just be careful and thoroughly research the limitations and extreme legal ramifications of copyright and trademark infringement just in case. Even phrases like boy mom are tm. And 99% of the time, brand owners also don't like their existing brands to be altered or changed in any way including decorating them. Great question! The first template was for a smaller rhinestone in the design. The second was for a larger one, but they both fit into the design like their own puzzle pieces. Doing them separately keeps the stones from falling into the wrong holes.

Beautiful! I'm curious about the first step with the scattered rhinestones. What is the purpose of that?
Great question! This design uses 2 different sizes of rhinestones, so each size has it's own full template. That first one had tiny ss06 rhinestones. We make the templates exactly the same size so they can stack on each other, which keeps the rhinestones all aligned in your end product. We also pick up the smaller rhinestones first, because if you pick up the larger ones first, they have a bigger profile and can interfere with your ability to fully get the tiny rhinestones to stick to that Acrylic hotfix tape. I don’t understand what the first blue tape sheet was for. I do understand the one that they put all the crystals in.
This design uses ss06 (smaller) rhinestones as fillers. So, each size rhinestone gets it's own template. The smaller stones would easily fall into the bigger rhinestone holes for the ss10 size. We made the templates the exact same size, so that the dots or rhinestones all line up perfectly. ;) Thank you for taking time to watch and listen! -TRW Pilar

Ok we need a tutorial on how to get it off without destroying the fabric
Unfortunately, once you apply our rhinestones, they'll outlast the garment itself. If properly pressed, they'll never come off, just like htv. If you heat them up and pluck them off, the adhesive that's liquified with the heat and pressure will still remain bonded to the fibers, just like with htv. Even with a remover, there's marks. If they go on, they stay on :-)

Thanks! Things like this are for people like Rodeo Queens, where they want the sparkle to catch peoples eyes, not so much for the design. We have thousands of videos showing stones on solid colors though!

That's the fun part! Our new Premium stones have 16 facets cut. They're comparable to Swarovski. Those babies can glimmer for quite a ways! Lol! We're live Monday 8pmEST if you'd like to join us! Matt has used the new stones a few times on there to show them off! :-)

Somewhat similar concepts, since we're adding rhinestones to where the holes in the template are. ;) Did you know before this that you can do rhinestone shirts with a vinyl cutter? -TRW Pilar
What was that first part for exactly??
This design used 2 different rhinestone sizes, so we cut two templates with the outer edges being the exact same size, which helped to line up the two parts of the design. The first template used our smaller ss06 rhinestones and the second template uses our bigger ss10 rhinestones. Do you come to our weekly FREE Live Trainings? Good question, we love questions!
Ok, since rhinestones are a fixed size... you can only create so much detail. If they were all the same size some areas will look like a blop. But if we use various sizes, then we can highlight detail vs blending it together.
So the first was size ss6 stones which are small for details. We do these first so they don't fall into the larger ss10 holes which was what she placed second.
When they come together, as long as you keep a hinge, they fit together like a puzzle.

My mom owned a Bedazzler and I used to wonder how clothes with tons of rhinestones were made. Like I bet it took hours 😅
This way is great for a few shirts, but if we have a bulk order to fill we often use the Cams machine. It places hundreds of stones a minute. We have a few videos of it in action on our channel!

The ones on my shirt never stay
Oh no! There's a few quick things to check. If they're not our rhinestones, we cannot speak for their quality. The other thing, get a cheap thermal temp gun and check the health of your press. If you have "cold spots" as they call it, the stones backing will not properly liquify. If you're using an Easy Press, then that's likely what's happening. The one Matt has says it's to temp on the read out, but with the temp gun it reveals that it's actually up to 60 degrees cooler than it says it is.
