this is the whole chiltern mainline filmed in time lapse resulting in the whole 130 odd mile journey taking just over 4 mins, filmed on 82303 with 67018 pushing
Excellent stuff - I think what is most striking between this and the original 1962 version is how the linesides have been allowed to grow into mini-forests. All someone needs to do now is to put the two side by side!
i actually did the video over a few days, got the cab footage on day 1, first take as well! i then got the marylebone and moor st footage the day after, if you look carefully you may notice some of he footag in london is actually filmed in dusk!
V. interesting, some contrast with the earlier WR view of this line though! Will you be doing one for the Oxford link when it opens (2013 reputedly if they can resolve the issue with the bats in Wolvercote tunnel!)?
@lankyalbino , sorry no it was filmed in time lapse, i have uploaded a slower version, 2/3 slower so 12 mins, you can see a lot more at that speed, search my other vids for it
I was humming the London To Brighton in 4 Minutes (1983) soundtrack to the beat... And can somebody PLEASE fix the aspect ratio? I hate watching things in stretch format!
how long is the trip in real time? im wanting to visit the uk for the first time and i have a friend in birmingham and was lookng on ways to get there. i could rent a car but...id mixed up driving on the other side of the road lol.
Never seen this video before although if I chose to come back home from Banbury North and South Signal Boxes when I worked both as a British Rail Signaller into Marylebone I technically know this route of old. As in the year I was positioned there I just missed out on the wonders of Aynho Junction where there used to be a signal box in the middle of literally effing nowhere! Pardon the technical term but Duty Signaller 'W**ker Ankers' once let me know what I missed out on as the TCB control of aynho Junction from South SB began when I arrived in 1993. If anyone else knows the viaduct which crosses the M25 near the M40 intersection which someone has painted 'GIVE PEAS A CHANCE' on the parapet of that is also on this line. If you are driving eastbound from the M40 intersection you will see this - can't miss it twenty years on from when it was originally put on there!!!
still a lot of single line to (re)double, but this route & rolling stock is still far superior to the Birmingham (new street) to Euston Alternative in my view

Brilliant, really well done! :)
Great Video, I have subscribed
Interesting that the DVT is leading as the loco is usually at the Birmingham end on this route.
Well Done!-however the original has more interesting "traction" and an INFINITELY less annoying sound track!
There's a 2800 out on the mainline, huh.
About 1 hour 40 minutes on this route.
If you're in a hurry, you can do it in 1 hour 25 minutes from London Euston to Birmingham New Street.

What strikes me is the relative straightness of the route, surely speeds higher than 100mph are attainable?
The Great Central Railway the last of the old mainlines built 60 years later savaged by Beeching now they want it back HS2
I Prefer the older version ,a lot more interest and a lot more to see......over the years how things have dissapered....sad
cool video

This only went to Moor St not Snow Hill also the music is annoying.
