Brando's acting is still great here 70 years later. You'd have thought it'd be a bit dated by now but honestly brilliant even now.
Good acting is one of the only things that overcome time. Watch John Wayne in " The Searchers".
Brando was a man for all seasons.
All actors now are children of Brando
Even sucking his fingers marlon looks sofisticated , his acting and his precense really a king
😋
It's very interesting because nowadays Brando's methods are the standard and Leigh and Hunter would be considered "over-the-top".
overall yes, but for this specific play Leigh´s is perfect. Blanche wouldn´t fit with the method acting, she´s a character that´s ment to be over the top, theatrical, somebody who takes a lot of space with her personality. And she´s ment to contrast with Stanley, who was portrayed perfectly by Brando as well with the grunts and mumbling. Hunter´s acting doesn´t come off as over the top for me, she´s not as exagerated as Brando but for Stella it works.
@@angienoexiste Vivien Leigh was always stagy in her films including as 'Scarlett O'Hara' in _Gone with the Wind._ Her passion was the theater, and it showed. She only made 5 films between _Wind_ (1939) and _Streetcar_ (1951) and only 3 more afterward in the span of 14 years. But her stage credits in New York and London were plentiful.
Ya know. I can’t say I agree
@@user-rh2io7gm1lShe won 2 oscars. I’d say she did just fine on film.
Leigh nailed it.Unbelievable acting gets you in tears almost
A violent house man, but a generous mob boss. Only legend Marlon Brando could do that lol.
The last time I saw this movie was like 9th grade when they made us watch it for some reason, I was immediately struck by brando because he seemed like a modern actor transplanted into the early 50’s. Now after watching this scene I’m wondering if James Gandolfini was inspired by this performance when he played tony soprano
Did they have you read the book first? Those always went hand-in-hand growing up
Leigh is heartbreaking.
indeed
Nah, I love how little princess is cowed!
I read Stanley as someone not as polished than Brando but his portrayal is excellently accomplished.
Brando was magnificent as Stanley. His acting style in theater and film created a seismic shift in other actors' interpretation of roles.
All actors were sublime in this
You realize when you watch this how much Brando changed everything as far as acting is concerned. A bit like Miles Davis and John Coltrane when it comes to jazz.
Absolutely!
More than that, this acting _IS_ Jazz.
I just read the drama script for an entire day. And sheesh, this scene really is amusing both in play and script.
Rip Marlon Brando Jr, Vivian Mary Hartley, Mladen Sekulovich, Janet Cole, Margaret Hillias, Rudolph Bond, Richard Thomas O'Brien, Nick Dennis, Edna Lewis Thomas, Theodore Matthew Michael Kuhn Jr, Wright Thornburgh King, Marietta Canty, Charles Wagenheim, Lyle Zeiem, Tufei Fatella, Argiris Kavidas, Dhai Cristiani, Walter Scott Bacon, Buck Woods, Nino Pavese, Joesph John Brooks Jr, and Mike Morelli, you will be missed
Funny, that's exactly the same way I clear the table.
😂
I forgot to breathe watching this scene! 😂🤣
You are not the only one
same!
funshine, you must be female.
Blanche is that one friend everyone has that’s just *exhausting* to be around sometimes. There’s an old proverb along the lines of “a wise man only breaks the silence when he knows he can improve upon it”…Blanche is not a “wise man” lol
I know the type
Personally, I like how she's fallen off her high perch then dragged into the gutter.
What a scene
Who ever reads this have an Amazing day 👍👍
You too ❤
Thx
Ty ❤
You too!! Thank you!!❤
Hell ya dude, likewise ❤
*"Stanley, tell us a joke."*
She sounded very British there.
Actors used to be classically trained with the “transatlantic” accent. That’s why Brando’s more modern form of “Stanislav method acting” sticks out so much in this film.
Transantlantic accent was common then. The 60s revolutionized language and created the more distinctive American accent we know today
@user-rh2io7gm-Vivian is british.
She’s British tbf. She always put a slight American twinge to her roles but only very slight
She did cause she was British.
Stanley = Tony Soprano
Highly recommended movie.
So this is what the young godfather looks like
Nah he looked like young Robert de Niro
@@Ganasdemejorarhe meant what he looked like in real life duh.
Greasy-faced, throwin' chit!
Hunky
The movie that changed film acting forever.
Genio
Just found out a new way to get out of doing the dishes.....
Stella !
that cup throw was some pure anger.
It was pure sugar.
I'd be pretty irate to if my sister n law came into my house and started calling me slurs
That’s no excuse to r*pe her, though.
congrats you missed the entire point of the movie
Sorry, honey, I mustve missed that part. What slur are you referring to?
That’s no excuse to commit domestic abuse. There is never any excuse for that.
Throughout the movie Blanche calls Stanley a polak. It's a derogatory term for someone of Polish background.@@ForeverFlower
James caan looks like a young brando, who would have thunk it.
Con toda seguridad Jimmy se inspiro en el impulsivo Stanley de Brando. Me imagino a Caan, Pacino, Duvall y Cazale disfrutando como niños el tiempo compartido con su ídolo y referente, que obviamente lo era.
I’m not interested in being dead or risking my life or being GR. This feels like a very small price in exchange for that. I’m no idiot. Best bargain ever
I love Brando, don't get me wrong. But the heavy lifting in this scene is Leigh, her insecurity in telling the story etc. She's carrying all the language. He's reacting, internal, dangerous, brilliant, but she's doing the hard yards.
good move kowalski.
Skipper!
They’re all a problem.
This is comedy gold I stg
🤩👍
whats wrong with him
Wen Men was Men 😩😩😩 I miss it
1:29 go wash up and then help me clear the table 1:35 2:07 I’m the king around here
Why don't men wear suspenders today?
Belts are superior.
Belts aren't necessarily better. If you'd ever worn braces (suspenders), you'd understand how comfortable they are-they're much less restrictive.
One reason why men don't wear them much nowadays, I think, is because they're traditionally considered underwear and aren't meant to be visible. This can make even your nice t-shirts look like underwear too.
Using the restroom is laborious if you're wearing a pullover, waistcoat (vest), or jacket over them.
Stanley did nothing wrong
Who said he did? He was simply maintaining order.
Women nowadays wouldn’t mind a man acting like this. He just has to be damn handsome for him to get away with it. 😂
He was indeed
A scene I can see DiCaprio doing
@user-xb9yo1pj4n This is basically a more serious version of his role in wolf of wall street. From an acting standpoint.
Very true. But you don’t want to give in to the desires of bored trashy women.
Men get back to your masculine roots this is how a real man should act around modern women ....Time to act is now
I’m a woman and I agree!!!
Throwing a temper tantrum is being masculine? Wtf? He was frightening, threatening and a BULLY! A REAL man would NEVER intimidate a woman. There is such a thing as a MIDDLE ground. Two extremes never make a right.
@@ashleyschultz3217 You would be out the door and gone for good, in two seconds flat, if your boyfriend or husband did this to you. If not, then you are a classic candidate for domestic violence....women who think it is great/normal/ acceptable/understandable for a man to be violent towards a woman. Please get some therapy.
he is literally a rapist and hits his pregnant wife
LOL “the time to act is now”
(This message has been brought to you by Stanley Kowalski’s 21st century, effeminate male action committee)
🐺🔥
He was truly one of the last movie stars, now it’s j dwane Johnson
@@kathryn0200 no
He was much more than movie star he was a great actor with a distinctive style that revolutionized acting.
@@handler65 I am bitchass
