"Don't you just love these long, rainy afternoons in New Orleans when an hour isn't just an hour but an eternity dropped into your hands".....that's my favorite line from the play......it always gives me chills!

Ann-Margret, you have always "made my mouth water". I loved this version and appreciate it being uploaded. The picture quality is much better than I remember. I remember it being a very dark picture. I thought she did a fantastic job in this movie. If I remember correctly, this was made right after she did "Who Will Love My Children" and just before "The Two Mrs. Grenvilles". She was at her best for sure.

Blanche: "Did you get caught in the rain?" Young Collector: "No, ma'am. I stepped inside." Blanche: "In a drugstore? And had a soda?" Young Collector: "Uh-huh." Blanche: "Chocolate?" Young Collector: "No ma'am, cherry." Blanche: "Cherry!" Young Collector: "A cherry soda." Blanche: "You make my mouth water."

Ann-Margret brings a sexuality to this role that Leigh did not

Holy crap! That is definitely Raphael Sbarge from Once Upon a Time. Good grief! He looks like he's 14 and a half!

I've tried to like other versions of this Tennessee Williams play but Vivian Leigh has spoiled me for any other actress playing this part.

This lacks the intense desperation of Leigh. This scene should almost make you weep. In Ann-Margret's hands, Blanche acts like her john didn't show, so she's going sub and do the kid a favor. Vivien Leigh shows the huge difference between competent and truly great.

Leigh really embodied the borderline nature of Blanche. There's something about her in this scene where she seems almost pained by her desires.

You can't open windows in the South in summertime, rain or no rain. Just more steam heat to let inside.

She lacks the delicate almost frail qualities of Vivian Leigh and the hair and make up are wrong.

Right. Leigh was a butterfly just as the author intended. Margret's a train held up at a barrier. Just way too much.

Agreed. She's trying too hard to be seductive and sexy, Blanche was all frailty and loneliness and hurt.
