    This is great. I have had reflux for years, but in last three months, it has gone to another stage. I have lost 9kg in a month, and despite being on PPI medication, I am in constant agony, with wind, burping, sternum pain, reflux into mouth, etc. A gastroscopy procedure showed no significant damage but a weak lower oesophagal sphincter. I was told I need to stop a huge range of foods, drink only water, and take medication for life. I cannot and will not accept this as a solution. Finding out about this new innovation has given me hope. The fundoplication and Linx options seem to bring as many issues as they solve, so this seems like a game changer. I will be speaking to my gastroenterologist in 10 days about this here in Finland, and if they don't even know about it yet, I'll be coming back to the UK for this if it is considered appropriate. These innovations and the surgeons who do this stuff are the true heroes of society.

    Very useful video. Thank you! I was just wondering wherher the stitches can come undone over time and if this means the implant could migrate somewhere? My understanding is that with the LINX the scar tissue encapsulation keeps the device in place.
    Hiaral hernia recurence is a big problem with fundoplocations. Does this surgery suffer from the same rates of hiatal hernia recurrence?

      @Innocence44 Před 12 dny

      sutures can fail, so it probably can still get undone if one is not careful. the standard prescription post Nissen is to not overeat, avoid vomiting and heavy lifting. I lead a very active lifestyle and lift heavy weights regularly, so I'll probably remain on PPI's for the rest of my life, unless some new, more fail proof, procedure comes along.

    • @Refluxuk
      @Refluxuk  Před rokem +1

      Hi Neil - there is no particular hernia size that is recommended for this operation. All reflux surgeries (LINX, Fundoplication, RefluxStop) are accompanied by a hiatus hernia repair, large or small.

  • @Uniquelynormal429
    @Uniquelynormal429 Před 10 měsíci

    I may not understand the definition of fundoplication. I didn’t realize one was performed with this procedure. Do patients experience the same restrictions after refluxstop that they do for the fundoplication surgeries? They aren’t able to lift much weight for ear of loosening the fundo? Can’t strain core muscles much etc…?

    • @Refluxuk
      @Refluxuk  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi. There's actually no fundoplication performed in a RefluxStop, although the the head of the stomach (fundus) is stitched to one side of the oesophagus. Among other things, this helps to reduce the 'angle of His' which can aid in reducing reflux symptoms.
      We normaly suggest that people start building up their exercise from weeks 1 or 2 (after discussing with their clinician), with most getting back to their normal exercise routines (including weight lifting etc) after a few months!

I don't have a major problem just when eating a bit heavy it becomes a bit annoying over night. Still would like to find a solution for this. Would RefluxStop fix my symptoms? I'm an active person doing sports and stuff and would not want to restricted by this option. This has the same risks as classic fundoplications that it can get loose?

    • @Refluxuk
      @Refluxuk  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Hi there - thanks so much for your enquiry.
      Many of our patients who have had a RefluxStop or LINX have been similar to yourself - having to make significant lifestyle/diet changes at a young age and want a permanent solution without life-long medications.
      RefluxStop should definitely improve your symptoms. Regarding risks - there are of course risks and recurrence with every procedure, however it is worth noting that these decrease significantly with experience. The average NHS reflux surgeon performs 12 reflux surgery's a year (for private it is 7!) according to the most recent studies.
      Our surgeons perform 12 in the space of two weeks so their outcomes are far, far better than the average, whether that is for fundoplications, LINX or RefluxStop!

    May i ask about the silicone implant. Are there any potential issues with it being in the body for so long? Would it ever need replacing?

    • @Refluxuk
      @Refluxuk  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Hi there - great question!
      The RefluxStop implant uses medical grade silicon, which has had decades of study showing its biological compatitbility within the human body. No research thus far has shown a need to replace it, and it is not expected to ever be required. It is also visible upon X-Ray, meaning that if there are any concerns it is quick and inexpensive to check the implants positioning etc. Hope that helps!

    • @Refluxuk
      @Refluxuk  Před rokem +2

      Hi Ruth. Great question. One of the great aspects of the RefluxStop is that does not create a 'tightness' around the lower oesophageal sphincter, which many people have after a fundoplication procedure. As such, belching and bloating are not an issue following a RefluxStop.

    • @mrgekko6386
      @mrgekko6386 Před rokem +1

      Refluxstop is different to fundiplication you can see in the video that they operate in a small ball on the outside of the stomach in a small pouch created from the stomach.
      Refluxstop is much better than Lynx.
      Refluxstop will probably be launched in the US next year so i guess for now private hospitals in Europe are the only options.
      In the UK Reflux UK and Spire Healthcare Group have started to use Refluxstop.

      @Refluxuk  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi there! The first part is indeed the hiatus hernia repair, which is in two parts:
      0:00-4:15 = mobilisation of the oesophagus
      4:20-6:10 = hiatus hernia repair
      The second part is the 'RefluxStop' part of the procedure:
      6:15-10:20 = 'limited' fundoplication
      10:25-13:00 = device insertion
