I have an 8, and a 12 (sawtooth), and I love their elegance, simplicity, and ergonomics. Thank you for sharing some history that I had not known before.
Great job covering the history of Opinel Knives!! I like Olive Wood and will probably get one, digging the modded one with the clip. I just modded one so my next video most likely be showing it. Thanks for the shout out!!!!
That info about the hand of John the Baptist was really neat, I had never heard that before. And your mods on that No. 7 are wicked cool, buddy. Cheers, and have a great weekend!
Thanks! Yeah, I had never heard that either. It was on the Opinel website. And yes I really like that no 7! It’s one of my favorite knives to carry and use!
Was one of the first folding knives I really took to. You don't have the strength and dexterity for some of the folders as a child and an Opinel is easy to use. Still have an #8 and #9. They're great hiking knives as they weigh very little and do much of what is required.
Yes!!! They are awesome! I have a No 6 stainless, 7 stainless, 8 carbon, and 4 carbon.. You have to try a carbon steel version! They patina and get even sharper than the stainless! Thanks for watching! I really enjoy your channel!
I carry a Buck 110 every day but I love Opinel knives, they're my second favorite. Things that are tested by time and won't let you down, you can keep your fidget flippers.
I have the number 8 and also have the Joker NO23 which is equivalent in size. Both are basically the same but I have a slight preference for the Opinel.
I don’t get the following for these knives. I owned a few they didn’t hold up for a work knife. They are ok for food but I don’t need my folder for that especially a wooden handle. I don’t see them being a value. Their are extremely good knives that are even cheaper. Like the rough Ryder folders, marbles folders. Even the kabar dozer, any buck folder or bear an sons. All listed have classic folders. The only thing opinel might have over some of them is a better factory edge. But when buying a knife it’s important to learn sharpening. Just like driving a car you need to know how to change a tire. It’s crazy the people nowadays that can’t do either. All my talk aside you made a very nice video. I like the clip screwed on. I remember having one in my tackle box used it for it’s extremely thin blade. (My fishing stuff was stolen) never replaced the opinel or a lot of that gear was old gifts from family friends and fishing partners. Just can’t replace that. Also had a case fish knife I really used that knife a lot. I bought a rough Ryder knock off. Still a great design.
Thanks for watching and for the comments! Yeah Opinels have their place in the knife world for sure. Love it that we so many knives to choose from so knife lovers can find a model or two that works for them! Sure appreciate your support!
@@J.O.VenturesOutdoors no you’re 100%correct they have a place. I just don’t get the following at the prices they are. Especially the newer models. Like the outdoors model I was attracted to that one then I saw the price same with the model with the clip on spoon. Maybe it’s just our economy sucks and I’m looking for value. When I used to buy stuff I liked now I must look for affordable and ask myself if I really can use it. It might just be me. You have a wonderful day thanks for keeping me entertained
No, I piss on Opinel knives waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced in Canada 🇨🇦 plus you have to pay for shipping even if you have Amazon Prime..Buck 110 does everything and more,WITH LIFETIME WARRANTY…Bloody Frenchmen bastards, I rather have my Mora Companion or whatever…
Lol, comparing a little folding pocket knife to a fixed blade scandi knife shows you know very little about grinds, geometry and what tool is right for what job… these are little food prep knives that cut like laser beams, a mora is like a bull in a China shop in comparison

I love the historical info you included too. Made this different to the other Opinel reviews on YT.
Thanks!! Appreciate that!

Thanks and you are quite welcome! Enjoy your channel and I’m looking forward to seeing your next video!
I like the pocket clip mod too. The Walnut handle option is worth looking at too. Beautiful.
Well done my friend. The history was great to listen to. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks my friend! I really enjoy these knives! Appreciate your support as always!

It's the hand of Baphomet if you Google him
Great slicers! I have a couple on my camper for cooking!
They are really great knives!
Neat knives and great history. I don’t have any but you certainly make it tempting. Nice video brother!
Thank you my friend! You should give them a try sometime! Thanks for watching!!!
Well worth adding to any collection.
I have three opinel 6 I use for cooking outdoors. Awesome knives for a budget price!
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Totally agree, they're perfect for camping or outdoors food prep.
The best EDC pocket knife. Antonini as well.
Perfect
Thanks for watching and commenting! I’ve seen some videos on that one. Looks really great as well.

Definitely agree! Thanks for sharing this!
I had one of these as a kid too. Used to carry it everywhere on holidays in France.
4:24 - It's pronounced "in-ox" not "I-nox"
as in "inoxydable" in French
or "non-oxidising" in English
Thanks! I wasn’t aware of that.

Super Opinel 😀👌 ! Like👍👋
Thanks for checking out the video!
Great knives lightweight and very sharp!!!!
Agreed! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
100% Made in France. Portugal is for some of the knives from the kitchen lineup.
I carried one for years when I was in the Navy, a Boatswain Mate friend tied me a really cool belt holster …
They are awesome and very useful/capable knives. I love my Opinels! Thanks for watching and commenting!
My experience with opinal , I have a #9 curvetail on my belt probably 30 years old has outlasted several belts .
@@philliplopez8745 That’s awesome! They are great knives! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching and for the comment! These traditional knives are awesome for sure!
100 % right, time tested and still going strong.
Best budget knives ever concieved. I own over 20 of them and carry them every day.
Absolutely agree! Thanks for watching!

Sandvik 12c27 steel.Great value for money knives
yes, love that steel! Sharpens really nicely! Thanks for watching!
Opinel is Great Often carried.
The MAM is Great as is Antonini.
The Opinel #8 carbon with olive wood is the Icon that started Opinel.
I doubt olive wood, they used local pine as shown on older illustrations, and switched to beech around 1985 I think.
I'm also a fan of Opinel knives. I have a No. 8 that I use for EDC.
I’d like to get a no 8… I really enjoy them as an EDC. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great knifes have four of them.

My opinion on them is that they suck. Don' use them around water the wood swells and the knife will not open and they rust very easily.
