  • Step by step how to take the bus from the Santiago, Chile airport into downtown Santiago to connect with the Santiago’s extensive metro system. Check out slowpoketravel.com/public-tra... for more details on taking the bus and using the Santiago, Chile metro. We have used the inexpensive Centropuerto public bus from the airport several times. The bus fare is currently 1800 chilean pesos for a one-way ticket. The bus runs from the airport to the Los Heroes metro stop and leaves every 10 minutes during the day from 6:00am until 11:30pm, and overnight, the bus runs hourly. We hope this video will help budget-minded folks arriving into Santiago...CG did a lot of research before we arrived in Santiago, so getting from the airport to the downtown area went very smoothly for us, and didn't cost us much money at all. We've read some accounts where folks end up spending more than $100 for the trip because they get taken advantage of by unscrupulous sorts who hang out at the airport in the hope of taking advantage of travelers who are too tired or confused to make the best choices...which is likely true for airports and similar locales everywhere, so having an idea of what you're going to do before you get to the airport is a good idea. There are a number of transportation options available at the Santiago airport, but I think the option we chose is easily the most affordable.

      Excellent arrival information.
I am surprised no one else has made this video before.
The Official Airport-City Centre buses are two bus companies; the CENTROPUERTO and TURBUS. (Both have fixed and fair charges. The CENTROPUERTO is cheaper than TURBUS because it is a more basic type of bus.)
There are also the Official van/people-carrier transport companies TRANSVIP and DELFOS.
There are also Official (Airport-approved) taxis, but like with taxis everywhere in the world, you aren’t guaranteed “the shortest route” to your destination!
Finally there are unapproved, unregistered taxis that will certainly rip you off. So never, ever take those. You can spot those “pirata” taxis because they come looking for you, they bid you to go with them, offering a cheaper fare when in fact the opposite will be the case.
(Finally, you don’t need to stand for the 20 minutes or so of the bus ride into town. You can always wait for the next bus which leaves the airport in no time at all.)

great comment...thanks!--we were approached by quite a few people offering transportation, but had read on several blogs that this could lead to a situation where one might be overcharged.

If you stick to any of the official transport means, you’ll be grand.
I forgot to mention one more Official Airport-Anywhere transport.
The Official Airport taxis. They are dark blue with an orange reg plate.
They are called “taxis de turismo” (tourist taxis) which will naturally enough take you anywhere - not just the city centre - but will charge you “tourist rates”. (Mainly used by businesspeople).

For all of your friends coming to Chile. Do never attempt to take a taxi from the airport to anywhere they might get yo ask even up to $100.000 chilean pesos which is almost US$150 or more. They deceive you just because you are GRINGOS. You can take this centro puerto blue buses or Turbus buses which are white and green they first stop at PAJARITOS SUBWAY STATION line 1 (red) then this line goes through all the city from west to east. These buses ticket is $1.800 pesos US$ 3 dólares.

Thanks for the info. Prior to our arrival in Chile, we had read stories of travelers spending way too much to get from the airport into the city. After a long flight, especially if you're landing in an unfamiliar country where you don't speak the language very well--if at all--it's easy to be targeted by folks wanting to take advantage, so wherever one travels in the world, doing a little research beforehand and knowing what to expect will make for a smoother journey.
