One of the few people that understands engineering before recommending changing parts. Kudos.
Happy I can send people this link instead of having to explain it over and over agin, thank you sir.
Solid advisement. Totally makes sense. Don’t go spending money after mods that’s aren’t needed. Dude is definitely an engineer when not moonlighting on BMWs.
You seriously are a huge help in our community. I ordered the same turbo kit but with the bigger turbo and I just ordered port injection. It said I needed a different charge pipe and I was looking for one like crazy but then realized this kit already comes with one thank you so much for your videos you’re amazing again
I don't even own a BMW but I honestly enjoy your videos, learning something about the B58! Keep it up man
Thank you for the support
Subbed! Great Videos on the B58! Please keep em coming! Owning a 2019 440i GC and can't wait for the warranty to run out to finally give it a proper Stage 2
Perfect, very well explained. I love your way making sometimeds complicated circumstances easy to understand
Great info, thanks for posting 👍
Great video, thanks for the information
Very smart, thanks for the explanation.
Thanks for the info.
Great explanation. !
Thanks for making these videos
Dude. Super informative and helpful. Thank you!
Great vid ,,, makes perfect sense 👌
This channel is a gift of god.
Thank you.
i have a 2022 x3m40i stage 2 and when i put in the high flow cat and flashed to stage 2 i noticed a very loud noise coming from the engine bay that i didnt notice with stage 1 and stock and the floor boards were vibrating like crazy and i had vibration at the pedals which were a concern to me. I went and put a chargepipe in from cts and all of the vibrations and majority of the sound from the engine went away.
bro you know exactly what you are talking about and get straight to the point lfg!!
🙏🏾
Thanks
Love the videos man you really are the best channel for b58 engines!! I ordered a dorch stage 1 for my gen 1 b58 and I’m about to order a wmi kit. I was wondering what you recommend for the meth tank size. I’m worried 1 gallon might not be enough. Thanks!
If you have an f3x then the bms stealth tank is the best option
@@kern417 will do, i was hesitent at first because I’m not sure how much it uses if i just use it for cooling
To me the larger it is the better. Even if it's not spraying much you don't want to worry about it running out. I know a few people with the smaller tanks that have to replace it weekly but it depends on your driving habits.
Hey man, love your B58 content, very knowledgable and straight to the point. Just wondering with your doc race kit, is there any downsides to having your intake pod filter exposed like that in the engine bay? Since it may be susceptible to sucking in hot air created from the engine in a confined space.
I'll be posting more data once it's dialed it but so far I'm not having and IAT issues
@kern417, thanks for the video, i have been googling and coudlnt find a half decent answer. however i got a follow up quesiton. so i have aB48 engine and i live in canada where weather also plays a factor to the fact that its half year really cold and half the time relatively hot. does the weathering plays a factor to this at all?
Nope it shouldn't matter
Yo keep dropping the great knowledge watched all the videos, about do some serious upgrades to my 2019 440i F36 the only thing I'm missing is more information on exhaust upgrades cause for price point and vavle control systems and also is stock enough just upgrade mid pipes to be cheaper or is it a must upgrade free flow for vargas GC+
All you really need is a downpipe to make good power. The stock exhaust is not very restrictive
Thanks Holmes for replying, I really appreciate your help gonna do catless downpipe, dinan intake, CFS heat exchanger with MHD OTS start off then vargas GC+ and Dorch stage 2 with 93 until I can upgrade internals before I do E blends all I want 550- 600whp
Sounds good you'll enjoy it
How much it cost to put a turbo setup like that? Complete with tune
I like how you just got to the point 😂
bro your videos are so fucking good I cannot have a better guide to building my xdrive 340i
Hey Kern, is there a way to get that plastic piece off the charge pipe where it covers the c clamp near turbo? I have to remove my stock charge pipe and reinstall it and want to retain the plastic clamp unless it's not needed. Thanks.
It's there so the clip doesn't go flying when it's removed
I love your videos so much! They are so informative. I just installed my TU pump today following your recent video - it was super helpful! After watching the video, it seems like I won't need to upgrade my charge pipe for BM3 stage 2+ OTS map, right?
Right
@@kern417 Thank you! I appreciate you replying to my comments!
Is it necessary to replace the plastic clip on the stock charge pipe on the turbo side? If so is there a part# to that clip?
No
what about upgrading the intake manifold...does that provide power gain?
Not much. But it helps provide more consistent power in hotter temperatures.
Hey kern, I have a question. In the case where you have to go 40-50% throttle and bring up the engine to ~4-4.5k with the oil temp only around 150 degrees (read through torque app), could that do any harm? I got into a situation where I had to do so, but only once. I use special tec 5w-30 which has higher levels of zddp btw. I might be over worrying.
It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world. I try to keep rpms below 3k until temps are over 200
@@kern417 is the coolant temperature in line with the oil temperatures?
@@universalg_ It will be somewhat similar, but coolant temps are lower than oil temps and oil typically takes longer to heat up
@@kern417 ok for sure. I usually let my vehicle warm up for 5-6 minutes then drive. Usually by the time I get to a stop light or two it’s already beyond 160 Fahrenheit
@@kern417 b58 oil and coolant temps are pretty much exactly the same and warm up at the same rate since the coolant flow is electronically controlled. I monitor both of them with my p3 gauge.
Is there a rubber seal/ oring at the bottom of the charge pipe that needs to be replaced? I see one on the diagram but its unclear if it needs to be replaced or could cause leaks
It doesn't typically need to be replaced unless it's damaged
@kern417 I swapped out both charge pipe gaskets today. Shoup has never had to put this much fuel mass into a tune. I must have an air leak somewhere but low pressure smoke tests revealed nothing. I'm going to rig something to 10psi and see. Has to be an issue somewhere but so far I have no clue. Tune cannot get going while this issue persists
@@pissywilly if you've swapped turbos then also check your exhaust gaskets
@kern417 I replaced the dp wire gasket and obviously the manifold gasket and torqued in sequence to spec. I'm super confident the manifold is set. The dp to cat back is a slip fit. Do you think leaks down steam from the dp would be an issue?
I'll check the vband again. That would bake a lot of sense but I feel confident that was over the 2 flanges nice and square.
Why does the b58 not have a BOV? Can I add one? I like the ricer sounds!
There is one aftermarket one made by Bigboost. The b58 doesn't have one because excess air is recirculated through the cylinder head via DME Tuning
@@kern417 awesome thanks fir the reply. One more question. I just picked up my 440i and it has catless VSRF dp. I hate the fuel smells when I am at a street light with the windows down. I’m curious if I get the catted vsrf dp with 200 cel cat, will that mainly fully resolve the fuel smells? Or will I still get some fuel smells with the race cat setup? I might just have to lose the hp and go back to stock cat :-/ I can’t stand the fuel smells!
Yep a cat will get rid of the smell
Now another reason to upgrade charge pipe would be to get a BOV version if you plan to go EWG with how Vargas is making Factory controlled EWG turbo kits.
Does that apply to the S58?
Should be similar in principle since it goes directly from turbo(s) to intake manifold but idk of there could potentially be other weak points
charge pipe goes directly from turbo to throttle body, no intercooler?
the intercooler is in the intake manifold
Mines kicked the bucket a month in after stage 2🥺
I'll just keep mine stock. Fast enough for me.
Is B48 have similar system with B58? And also not actually need upgrade?
Yes
@@kern417 thanks for the reply
So my G01 doesn’t need an upgrade 😊
비디오 감사합니다.
그러나 자막을 이용할 수 없네요.
영어는 어려워요. 😢
Yea no it needs to be replaced plus it looks good.
Yea no you just didn't watch the video and/or don't understand what you're looking at.
@@kern417 i was one of those dudes who had the N55 and had it blow up. I get you think you know everything but I don't trust plastic when forcing the car to work harder, Just play it safe for $250 and it looks nice.
this is not an n55. there are people pushing 600+hp through the stock charge pipe. you don't understand why the n55 pipe failed if you think the b58 is the same.
i was using the n55 as a reference. Its PLASTIC! do you have data on years and years of extended tuned use? You are basically the equivalent of Bro science for cars. Alum is always going to be a better option than plastic.@@kern417
yes, i have had my car for over 6 years and over 600hp for 3 years. no one is breaking charge pipes for the reasons mentioned in the video. it works very well. steel is stronger than aluminum, so why don't you get something stronger? because it's not needed, weighs more, costs more to make, along with all the other other negatives. but feel free to keep making uneducated decisions about your build.
I stopped watching at exactly 20 seconds in. Hope I didn’t miss anything good.
Would you say inlet pipe first before charge pipe.
neither really makes a difference
