I think there is a kill switch or pyrofuse that you either need to replace or bypass to get it running, probably located very close to the battery, tends to go pop when the airbags deploy

With the new BMWs, the car will crank over even if the ECU is not matched to the car, but it won't allow fuel injection or spark. So it could very well be that you have the ECUs mixed up. I think the key error is related to something else, it should not throw a key error, even if the wrong ECU is plugged in as the key is validated by the CAS (inside the Body Controller), and not by the ECU

Good job! I highly recommend scanning the vehicle for codes, take note of them then clear them before trying to crank again. I doubt the battery is the issue considering it cranks strong. either way that battery will need replacing and once replaced you will need to have it registered to the vehicle. This car also may very well have a pyrofuse that will blow when involved in an accident that will need to be checked.

There will be a fuel shut off switch that clicks out in a shunt. Find it and push the button back in.
Maybe also check fuses to see if a fuel pump fuse has gone and also check if the coils are working.
I would also clear all faults because its been dead for so long and many will be because of lack of current in the ECUs.. An old fault caused in the accident may be just hanging things up.

I would definitely scan the codes before trying to start the vehicle. Check all the fuses as well. Being a 2023, I highly doubt the battery is an issue at all. Most cars from 2017 and onwards are equipped with a pyrofuse, it goes off whenever a car is involved in an accident and the airbags go off. When it goes off it cuts power to the whole car. It’s is a good safety feature because if something happens to engine components it will shut off immediately and will not cause any more damage to the engine. Try bypassing or replacing it and the car will have power again and hopefully the engine starts with no issues

on bmw if you are getting a crank no start you need to do whats called a CAS-DME Alignment. This is what it was called on the older cars with the cas immobilizer system. the new ones have FEM/BDC modules which possibly need the same thing. it lets it crank but doesnt open the injectors. Scan it and if theres EWS manipulation or DME codes then do this. You can do this with most launch or autel scanners or ISTA
Also, on some bmw if the dme is inncorrect it will let the car turn over too but wont let it start. A DME has an "ISN" code which is basically like a serial number and this has to match to the BDC. if it doesnt match you will get a code in the DME saying incorrect vin or something like that. which means all you need to do is either get the DME Virginized. Or get the DME programmed to the BDC

something i learned with german cars is : if your battery is dead go ahead and get a new one(get a genuine not a Walmart one, it won't last for some reason)! they are extremely dependent on that battery!

Nice to see you put all the pushpins back. Every time I've had body work done, fasteners disappear.

Okay, so I can explain to you why you might have a start up issue BMW loves to serial number their battery to their ECU They have done this for ages. Make sure your vehicle isn't one of those vehicles that has to have the battery serial number to the car. If it is, then you have to go to the dealership to have them serial number, a new battery to your car, but your car may also not start because you do not have all the airbags connected. That is another security feature that b m w is fond of

Never charge battery directly in the boot unless is disconnected from car, second you can’t just buy ecu plug it in and expect what car starts it must be coded to your car vin number changed and so on.

Ben if you have dead battery, put another battery that have power in it to side of orginal battery. That way the smartcharger keep it charging and you don't have to push it over n' over again for charge.
