Ok DB...i'm angry....I watched this video last night, and now again this morning, and you've made me re-evaluate my Dashy setup...and now I want to expand on my homepage setup... I love the server stats you get, it's clean, simple, and just really informative...you made it look so simple, and now my brain won't quit thinking abou it. Well done, and excellent home setup!
Thank you so much!! I've tried Dashy and wasn't a fan of it, but I think that was mostly the aesthetic. Might give it another shot just to refresh my memory. I like homepage for how I'm using it. It's relatively easy to configure after looking through the documentation and whatnot.
Seeing you after a long while. You are the reason I started my self hosting journey. And your guides helped so much. I literally knew nothing. Now I have set up 3 servers. And have some modest experience of things.
Thank you DB tech. ( I honestly don't know your name, sorry, idk whether you've said it before or not)
Thanks DB. Great video. Welcome back and I hope you are feeling better.
Thank you so much!! I'm getting better. I'm working with my doctors to get some stuff sorted and we seem to be onto something. Will do an update video on my other channel soon for more details :)
I always appreciate your videos when I find them. Best wishes from the UK :)
Proud to still be part of your lab! Thanks for the overview, and wish you a continued recovery!
Thanks for sharing mate
Thanks for watching!! :)
congrats on the HL15 they are very proud of those. thanks for the cool and good vid as usual.
Great video! Always good to see what actually makes it to production from all the tests. I ended up moving my Vaultwarden to RackNerd VPS as I kept running into issues when I just happened to be away from home so now it is on a public server and I can run that for cheap. BTW, Speedtest Tracker has been updated to 0.19.0 and LSIO is now maintaining it. Lots of cool features have been added since 0.11. I tried ActivePieces and ended up moving to n8n as it had a better connection with Speedtest Tracker's Webhook service and sending notifications to Gotify.
Great stuff thanks
Thank you sir.
Most welcome
Thanks for sharing, great video. I hope you get well soon 🧠🤕💪🏽
Thank you!! I'm definitely trying :)
I’m definitely going to look into ghost, fider, matomo, and activepieces
It's honestly refreshing to see a video showing selfhosting on "realistic" hardware, instead of firebreathing rack servers with expensive epyc CPUs and what not.
Also some interesting services shown here that I will have to take a look at.
Thanks! I've got a firebreathing rack server that will be delivered in a few days, but most people don't need that. Hell, I don't need that. I like showing that you can run a modest homelab on an SBC of SFF PC. I think it's more realistic for most people.
@@DBTechYT Absolutely! I run all my stuff on a single HP Mini PC. And I'm hardly utilizing it at all.
Great Video, what Router do you run in your homelab?
Thanks!! I've got an Omada network setup that uses an ER605 v2.0 as the router portion of things :)
Hey can you give n8n a try versus Active Pieces?
Love the content you put out! You’re one of the couple people I follow on home lab and docker stuff. I’ve been slowly building up hardware for a home lab and self-hosting setup. My main custom build NAS is an OMV (just personal preference, tried TrueNAS and just wasn’t a fan and Synology wasn’t in the budget at the time).
My first question is, what do you run your Proxmox Backup on? That’s been one of my biggest hangups in really getting started is not sure how to handle and manage backups.
Second question is, and maybe you made a video I didn’t see yet, how did you setup your template container? I’d love to do that in my setup for easy spin ups.
Here is my template container: czcams.com/video/WYmdoTPTusk/video.html
I've got a Proxmox Backup Server VM running on my Synology. Pretty straightforward as far as setups are concerned.
Setup: czcams.com/video/n_JZ2aXMMmI/video.html
Restore backed up data: czcams.com/video/dtTe7K6UE5k/video.html
@@DBTechYT Thank you!!!
@@DBTechYT Ok, so I got template container setup. I was trying to follow your video on the wordpress docker setup. I technically have wordpress deployed and imported in my existing content, but I feel like I'm missing a piece related to where Nginx Proxy Manager comes in. Would you possibly be able to link the necessary videos and what order they should be done in to accomplish this setup? :)
So here are a few different video that might be of interest:
NPM on OMV
czcams.com/video/bQdqf5xAyUk/video.html
NPM w/ Cloudflare SSLs
czcams.com/video/rj7DZdWMK2k/video.html
NPM w/ Authelia
czcams.com/video/4UKOh3ssQSU/video.html
NPM w/ live dashboard
czcams.com/video/-CQcEWVBjQU/video.html
None of these are on Proxmox, but you should be able to extrapolate the data and get things set up for yourself :)
@@DBTechYT so I actually managed to follow your latest video about self-hosting that linked to the Wordpress deploy and also to the Cloudflare tunnels to CasaOS and pieced together what I needed. I’m now successfully self-hosting my Wordpress site 🙂
I watched your video on why you do LXCs and the backup reasons. Do you happen to have, or would you consider making in your new Proxmox 2024 series you are doing, how you determine what docker images are assigned to which LXC container? And how you determine how to size the LXC for storage?
I’m trying to figure out which apps I would host from Proxmox LXC that may not need a lot of storage and which ones I would host from my OMV docker because they need direct access to the mass storage (Jellyfin for example needs access to all the media on the NAS, so that makes sense to run it from docker on OMV).
Might also get a couple more drives to build another small NFS RAIDZ storage for my 3-node Proxmox cluster, they are all using internal storage now.
Thanks again for all the videos, they have been super helpful!!
That 70s Show ftw! Pretty much the most played show on Plex in my household.
Any reason for not combining proxmox nodes into cluster(s)? I found it super useful - especially seamless migrations between the nodes. Either manual or for HA purposes.
I've had that set up in the past: czcams.com/video/FZnVmt_DvUk/video.html
Don't really find it necessary at the moment. Everything runs well as it's currently set up and, let's be honest, I'm a bit lazy sometimes.
Perfection
Thanks so much!
Hi. I see you use lxc containers a lot. How do you run services inside? Each lxc has docker installed or do you run them by hand, I mean not containerized?
I'm actually going to make a video about this in the near future.
Why did you opt to have so many lxc containers in proxmox as opposed to say 2 or 3 linux VM's with docker installed? Also how do you manage all the lxc containers in portainer, that would be a boat load of agents
I don't use Portainer much these days. Most everything I do is via command line. I'm planning on making a video about why I have my homelab set up the way I do with all the LXCs :)
I definitely want to get into proxmox and mess around with some containers. I didn't think it was possible to run it on a smaller computer. I also want to set up my own plex server. I tried Synology one time and regret ever buying it. I'm unable to download any files, music, etc. from the NAS. It's like the files got corrupted.
Synology is great for some things, but not so much for others. I'm glad I got into Proxmox
when I was just about to say "why so many boxes", you said you're consolidating it into HL15, enjoy :D
I've been running my homelab on low-powered devices since the beginning. I had a Promxox HA cluster set up on ZimaBoards for more than a year and now i'm using a few mini PCs. I'm excited to get the HL15 and set things up on that :)
Would you be able to do a video on setting up Fider including getting postgres connected to it.... I cant quite figure it
Already made that video: czcams.com/video/EdUsDUkk6fE/video.html
Be sure to check out the links in the video description for more info.
@@DBTechYT you rock, I was searching back through your videos and couldnt find it. Might want to change the title to something like "How to use Fider to ......"
@@dukeseb Good call! Done! :)
@@DBTechYT i just realised why i couldnt find it.... its unlisted
@@dukeseb That makes a lot of sense. I think I remember doing that because the views were SO low on it, but I've made it public again :)
Nice video, but I'd appreciate timestamps next time 😀
I'd appreciate them this time...
And next time...
I’d appreciate them long time.
Is there a chance to put sonarr and radarr to plex and work together with plex?
Yeah. That's what they do. I've got Sonarr and Radarr on my Synology and my Plex running on a completely different device and they work in tandem without any issues :)
Damn that internet connection bro. 1Gbps/1Gbps. How much does that cost every month?
I'm happy with it. Got it August of last year. It's $70 for the symmetrical gig connection. I was paying twice that with Xfinity and only got 30mbps up. It was awful
@@DBTechYT A connection with the speed in Australia costs about $1000AUD a month, I think that is about $8.50 USD based on our current economic trajectory. :P
Srry for my bad english , but why nl cluster ?
As far as why I'm not running my 2 production servers in a cluster is fairly simple:
I used to have a 3 node HA Proxmox cluster and it was fine.
But it never actually did anything for me.
It was "neat" that I could see all the info from one dashboard and whatnot, but it just didn't do much more than that for me.
So I migrated everything over to a single node that was just as, if not more, powerful than the 3 nodes I previously had set up.
Recently I decided to set up a second node specifically for a VM I wanted to run that would have overloaded the first unit when added to everything else. So I just quickly set up that node and started deploying stuff on it.
I never felt the need to cluster them because I've got new hardware coming that will eliminate the need for multiple nodes entirely.
Can you run plex server on a SFF pc?
I actually talk about that early on in the video. I've got Plex running on a SFF pc
@@DBTechYT Awesome! Does it have to be very powerful?
@@astrogirl133 It's all going to depend on how many streams you're going to have to transcode. The more powerful the device, the more streams you should be able to do. You also want an Intel processor that support Intel Video Quick Sync for better performance
Wow people are STILL running Plex in 2024? I'll be damned.
Kinda just looked through the timestamps and saw nothing much of interest, bit of a snore fest.
Thanks for keeping it real 👍🏼
