  • Took a Pogo 40 out to Catalina Island for an overnighter, light winds on the way there, did some snorkeling, then a nice downwind spinnaker run on the way back. A little bit of Kite Photography as well

You make very classy videos. I want one of these. There's one for sale in New Caledonia right now 90k Euros. I live in Australia so it's not too far away. Just have a $$$ shortfall problem. rgds John.
PS. used to keep our boat in Ventura when we lived in Canada. Fond memories of Twin Harbors.

Awesome video. Love your Pogo and love the island. I grew up at the Isthmus and have lots of fond memories for out there.

Ashley and I anchored in that bay for a few nights in 2014. It's a really nice spot. We walked to the top of the island from the hut. Another great video Christian. Please stop posting before I buy another boat.

Well done! When the lyrics said "...you're a dream to me..." I was kinda thinking that must have been the exact thing going through your head when running that code zero at a bazillion knots. That eel was great too - didn't expect to see him/her! : )

That was my boat Coyote. I sold her in 2016. She is currently in Australia.

Christian - how does the Pogo 40 compare to other boats upwind ?

Hi! I've done a few short races and going upwind I'm usually slower than narrower boats, especially in lighter winds. In more than 15 kts of wind I go faster and can start to use the ballast tanks, but I have more wave drag too.
In offshore conditions the waves really slow me down, so I have to point kinda low.
This boat is not optimized for upwind. But she's faster than anything I've ever had before. And I don't really care about race results.

Thanks Christian! I am looking to buy a Pogo 40 S2. A friend is trying to talk me out of it - claiming it is a “one trick pony” - only good when broad reaching. Your reply is very helpful. If racing I could catch them on the downwind leg (unless 15knot plus low swell days when we might be close to the lead!). Winning isn’t everything I agree - they look a very enjoyable bait to sail.

It sure is a fun boat to sail. I'm not sure about winning upwind downwind races. But I think all these older class 40s are great boats. I personally didn't want the s2 because I liked the solid hull and the swim step and the interior walkways. But I wish I had a better spray protection. Good luck! Send me a video of you sailing if you get the boat!
