- Flying an aircraft has become as simple as just jumping on a bicycle.
Throughout history, humans have made several attempts to fly like a bird.
Of course, we've had planes and helicopters. However, they require powerful engines. How about an aircraft that rely solely on human power?
Watch our list of 10 human-powered aircraft that flew.

Good list, but the video would be so much better if the _obnoxiously_ loud music wasn't constantly playing throughout.
The music was louder than your voice at times which was distracting while trying to listen to you. Otherwise a good video.
birds have a very safe flight but not because they flap their wings. an electric engine and propeller can be safe enough, but the secret is control. birds can fly in extreme turbulence because they have variable geometry wings, they can fully fold, thus minimising the effects of turbulence they can also react faster and have perfect reflexes that they practice every day, but the main factor is the folding wing.
Thanks for sharing friend👌👍Love from India❤💞🇮🇳🙏

0:21 abbas ibn firnas was the first human creat and fly with ornithopter
Ngl I think the music soundtrack is really unnecessary
But super interesting video anyway!
Human-powered vertical lift is amazing!
Great video 🔥🔥🔥🚴🏻♀️✈️🙌🏼
🙏🏼✌🏼❤️🎶✈️🌎💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
the multicopter is very impressive.
I think what could be really cool is a combination of pedal power and solar power for one of those gliders.
For the bicycle operated ones maybe a 60cc engine like on a motorized bicycle to give it that ground speed, so towing by car would not be necessary. Make sure you have a good tank, unless it's e powered then no gas necessary and the environment would like it
That’s a really cool idea
Love you brother i am from India🇮🇳
Thank you, Mr. Techno. 🥰🥰 Your channel is great.

Nice
1970/80's Machines were Head and Shoulders above more recent Fixed Wing Design.
yearly small pot competitions only incentivise social cohesion, not technical innovation
Good knowledge of new flying gadgets.i like this video
Thank you, Irshad. 🙏🙏
What most shocked me is that the Daedalus aircraft that holds the world record for flight duration and distance was developed IN THE 1980s! Wouldn't you think that with all the advancement in materials and aeronautics over the last FORTY years, we would have made some progress? As the saying goes, "Not so much."
They had better drugs back then😂
Considering the massive gap in achievement ever since, I wouldn't be surprised if they cheated.
This is known as “diminishing returns“. It happens in almost every field of technical endeavor.
good video😊😊 from korea
A human powered aircraft that uses a dynamo to save manpower and to fly faster seems like a good next step.
you'd need a long string of dynamos to make it actually capable of enhancing lift
Powerful invention
@3:50 & @5:27 I like how the propeller is built into the tail, cool design
totally brilliant amazing presentation!!!
Thank you. I truly appreciate your kind words.
Keep in mind, Snowbird has no propeller. It flaps it's wings!
That Snowbird's no bird...it's a plane!
I saw a documentary (maybe during the nineties) where they showed the developement of a bicycle-airplane. A woman was training on this plane, checking the design, adjustments etc. The day of the show, a man drived the plane. I was thinking: why another person? Why not keeping the one who did the tests?
Does anybody remember this documentary?
This is very interesting and impressive. I really wish one they we really invent a machine that humans can fly without any motor system.
balloon or paraglider?
Adoro tecnologia
Fun to watch and play, but most of them are just a waste of funding.
I saw the Gossamer Condor fly back in the 70s out at Shafter airport.
Love your videos! Background music is too much
Thank you, Walther. We'll keep getting better 💪
I want to see one with power storage and can fly aggressively at high velocity and high altitude.
The current distance record recognised by the FAI was achieved on 23 April 1988 from Iraklion on Crete to Santorini in the MIT Daedalus 88 piloted by Kanellos Kanellopoulos: a straight distance of 115.11 km (71.53 mi).
THE IMPULSE VEHICLE STUB.
I didn't remember the English channel crossing to be that old. Genuinely surprised.
I too can suffer from Mandela effect I guess! 😆
How time flies 😂😂
Abbas Ibn Firnas is the first person to make many attempts to fly throughout history ..
Woow emaizing friend
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this compilation. This field has grown so much since the Gossamer Condor!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching.
Strong legs required
That would. Be cool
yo 787 's wings so BENDY, boeing could make the 787 into a omnicopter
Cool mode of transportation, the helicopter contraption not so much.
Ah yes, Gossamer Wings! It was just one of those things. LOL
amazing.
Simply amazing!
You could just put an escooter motor and I'll takeoff just add steering
I love your fulln"think
6:26 It's a shame that they didn't adjust the prize money for inflation.. $250,000 in 1980 would be around $1,133,064 today.
A bit of a cop-out really. 250K is bugger all now, especially split between however many people worked on the thing.
Have the person lay at a 45 degree angle on their stomach with the foot pedals angled underneath. And also add some arms pedals to work fans or wings for momentum
Sounds like a great idea.
Why don't they use a long cylinder with hydrogen (helium) in the hull design? This will greatly facilitate the task of the "pilot". And the wings should also be pumped with hydrogen.
Sounds like the Hindenburg disaster waiting to happen again
Cramps can really dry the gas
The music totally spoils this
You should include too the Sikorsky awarded human powered helicopter by atlas Canada, I was in that race if a human powered helicopter but didn't manage to finish mine ..I will revisit it someday after am done with my current build
It's part of the video. Thanks.
I take all
They are all impressive.
Wingsuit flying makes things so much easier than pedaling. Charlie Horses are of little concern.
That’s gliding not flying
I don't think the car tow counts
there is also the first ever human powered aircraft,SUMPAC nov. 1961 it flew about 400 feet! there is a british pathe' newsreel clip of it! more than one person put it on youtube
HP flight wil never become practical. However, we could come a bit closer tot hat with electrically asisted ledaling, pretty much like a flying e-bike.
Elisa only has two arms?, with 6-8 arms it would pull better, the speed would increase...the wings could be shorter...
I want to fly
Turn the loud music off please!
I’m gonna build one for a double world record
Don't forget 🆘💯🗣️ how cleaver we are? Trust in yourself and your fellow man👍💯🗣️😘 and God bless us ALL 💞😘 and KEEP US💪❣️🗣️💯🙏😇
Hezarfen çelebiye rahmet olsun
.
Why I think they should do is make a gear ratio of smaller and bigger gears, so you have you can use less leg, power, and more power on the wing and I’m wondering why hasn’t anybody done that yet?
and the flywheel to store/release energy and what about connecting said flywheel to two pedals, one for the feet and one for the hands in case you get tired
@@cannabico6621 weight
WHY IS THE MUSIC SO LOUD ?
Why is it there at all? It makes the video worse, not better
@@EctoMorpheus it's so true, I think its post MTV generation that need noise in the background all the time
I bet with a small amount of assistance from a motor, with a bicycle like construction, would make for a smaller and still more powerful flying machine
What for yoy need to do ideotism??? Are all you ok?? In hole world is nothing to do usefull??? It looks, that news about 50% lowering IQ fpr last 30 years is truth!!!
I have seen very large Radio Controlled gliders that are super aerodynamic, and robust enough to carry a human efficiently. figure out a pedal and prop then up and away and under control that’s important.....
e
Is that real?
What material is it made of
Witch onr
The English channel was crossed in a cycle powered glider in 1979
Gossamer Albatross? I remember seeing it on TV!
noted that jinker project in the intro was a kickstarter scam
são feitos de que materiais
So.. I have something that should fly, and should easily hover/steer/stay aloft twice as long as current record.. I would prefer anyone interested in actually building this to email me directly... I'm also sketching out a human powered winged craft that too should easily double air time.. Western NY area.
how do i know you’re not lying?
Let's do it.
enough for me to get to school
why did they stop filming number 1 when it just got to the good part.
The attention span on the internet keeps dropping 😂😂 Gotta keep things brief and move on to the next.
Lighten the load!!
2nd one hardly classifies ....
Panis yAn sa whight brothers
Bicycle moter
Is there a reason why there is only one pilot?
Weight
@@donzioldbuddy Double the weight of propulsion units, not double that of the total mass. Think one Merlin in a Spitfire, two in a Mosquito.
Toooooo bad the music in the background sorry I could not follow😮
some of these are just gliders not human powered at all
none of them is practical. i like that one person glider you can buy in austria or swizerland.
Leave it to Canada to not be able to get off the ground without assistance. Lame
Moaning drama “maiagare “
NHk 8 time
What's wrong with their human aircraft design is they don't have a flywheel. A flywheel could smoothen and sustain torque, so they don't have to pedaling all the time. Pedaling all the time is making higher heartbeat, higher heartbeat equals more oxygen, more oxygen equals more energy but the design don't let them rest.
But flywheels are heavy!
You can rest when you gain altitude and glide
@@deltashot5608 the take off process is full of effort bro..
@@backyardmachinist then you need a transmission to spin it up..with that very long wings, that should not be a big problem for 100lbs flywheel
@@mashilmy if you do something hard everyday, it becomes easy and quick.
There are now 140 comments for this video. That means 7 students could each read 20.
The horrible and loud music makes this video far less useful.
Needs pedelec....😂😂.
Das Video hat ein Dislike verdient! Einfach nur Zeitverschwendung.
unfortunately idiotas couldn't accept Pushpak viman (Plane) which we already had waayyyyy wayyyy before your Leonardo The Mythical painter
Comes from someone who calls Leonardo Da Vinci a Mythical painter 🤣🤣🤣
I have the impression that solar energy is more effective . greetings
I think so too. Greetings to you as well.
