❄️ Check out my website kiunb.com (made by Squarespace) where I share some personal stories of Yakutia and you can order locally hand-made crafts from Yakutia.
🎷 If you want to buy some hand-made wooden flutes made by Dmitry in this video and recreate the sounds of Yakutia in your own home, you can order here: www.kiunb.com/shop/p/hand-mad... (there are limited flutes available)
🧤 You can also check out the warmest hand-made Siberian mittens (my favourite!): www.kiunb.com/shop/p/yakutian...
This video is about living alone in the Siberian village located far, far from civilization and roads where harsh winters are the norm. Natalia and Dmitry live there, and Dmitry has a wonderful story and hobby.

Seeing Dimitri do the fist bump with his and your son with the finger movement while pulling away from it afterwards was really something. Even in the Siberian Wilderness, with the internet it tickles me to see that he's aware of such things and does it with his son. Wholesome. There's a lot of good and bad that comes with people consuming the same kind of things online, and it's nice to see the good. I really like how you're utilizing the internet to inform people about your culture, environment, and daily life, and that you're also using it to benefit your family financially and I'm sure also your community.

You’re essentially earning your existence every day by keeping yourself alive. Amazing videos!
It's incredible how adaptable human beings are, to be able to live in such extremes.
On a much less grand scale, I grew up in the Northwest of England, winters averaged 2-3c usually, a bad winter was -1c and a slight sprinkling of snow, that never really stuck. One winter, I moved to Scotland - and even at that short distance apart, the difference in weather, and how the body copes with it, was astonishing. Temperatures down to -13c, feet of snow (usually just several inches but I moved just before two consecutive bad winters hit) and winter weather in general, was longer than in England. I seriously struggled. I was in my twenties and developed chilblains - the doctor I saw told me she had never seen them 'in person' before. My lungs burnt and ached just breathing in the cold air. It took me about 5 years/winters how to cope better, but also until my body just got used to the difference in climate.
How on earth these people do it, I'll never know. Major respect to them.

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that she wasn't "alone". I am 60 and live in a little village in Canada (about 900 people total) and do strictly wood heat, but do have running water and electricity. I have been hand shoveling about 400 feet of driveway plus walking paths the last number of years, but this year am finding it too difficult so am hiring someone so I only need to do the paths. The longest I shoveled in one day was about 14 hours. The snow just kept coming and coming! I also still work. It's a lot all by myself.

Thank you for yet another wonderful video, Kiun! Would you be able to do a video on the family dynamics in this culture? You've mentioned that the population/community is quite small and close-knit, so does this mean families are all related either immediately or distantly?

Our home place and people as well as kids look like fascinating and great to make stories about. I used to live there in my childhood and now I visit it occasionally, especially in summer time because my Dad comes to live there on a regular bases. I live in Mirny now. Loved your channel, the way how you take the video, your voice. Your English sounds perfect. I”m wondering how you manage to do your wonderful job taking into consideration poor internet connection? Wow, those flutes are incredible. I wonder how long it takes him to make one. It's funny I hate winter(I am disabled, and cold is very painful for my joints), but I appreciate the beauty there. I couldn't survive it, but it's incredible to see how people live in such a cold climate, and see what all we take for granted. Living in the midwest is nothing compared to there.
